Tattle tail!
Scattelogical ramblings and desultory humor - User's Guide
Michaekla,
Dave47 said that you (or was he talking to Al?) can warp anything! The truth? The time? The very fabric of the time-space continuum? Doesn't sound flattering to me!
the tattle-tail, Carrie (guessing our Cat would have a tattle-tale)
I'm always impressed at your insight, Dave! LOL No, really!
Of course we can - how can you doubt it? I may appear to be a frowsy middle-aged frump, but really I'm 272,781 years old. How is that for warped?
Michaela, you, a frowsy middle-aged frump? To me you don't look a day over 25. Where's Al with his PhotoShop when you really need him? xx, Carrie
yeah, you gotta love photo retouching!
I wish someone would retouch ME. x, C
hmmm...
(o where are the triple entendres when you need them..?)
I was hoping to let this conversation take its course.
aww, dave - that's so sweet! i'm touched.
Hey, interesting news tonight.
The voting has begun.
My lips are sealed - this is dave's, after all, not Dave's! xx, Carrie
Too, too funny!
I love that the SR&DH threads are being revived. Keep going, guys and gals.
(Carrie: you are WAY TOO funny!)
SR & DH, Candyce?
The abbreviated thread title, Harper.
SR71 and DH Cecil Cooper?
Yes, computer speak for the title.
I'm lost . . .
My washing machine just broke. Maybe I can take it apart and fix it myself? (looking hopeful) But first I have to get the wet clothes and water out and rinse the clothes that were stuck in the machine when it stopped pumping. The only bright spot is that I am using the wash water to water the trees - so I'm being green.
Wow - you have my sympathy. My DH fixed our old washing machine soooo many times. When we moved to MA, I said absolutely no used appliances. After 25 years of marriage, I finally got new ones for the first time! Haven't had a problem since (knock on wood!)
Major bummer about your washer. How old is it?
It came with the house - probably 20+ years old. I have the front of the machine off now and have located the pump. Of course I have no way to know if it is broken. LOL
I'd call an appliance repair guy...it may just be too old and not worth what it would cost to repair it...maybe not.
Hey you guys! stop posting! you're distracting me . . . I'm supposed to be marking students' work, but I haven't accomplished a thing in over an hour!
This is an appliance crisis! We're all in this together ! Do any of your students have a father who repairs washers? LOL
I once had a student whose father repair small electronic appliances. He had a job in California and decided he would rather be his own boss. he sold the family home, relocated to the east coast, and invested all his money in the business - just as supercheap DVD players and VCRs, etc were coming into the US from overseas. He lost everything, because it was just as cheap to replace a toaster, etc, as it was to repair it.
The student was very unhappy - Dad was unemployed and drinking, mom was working 2 jobs trying to hold the family together.
If the machine is 20 years old, you might still get parts for it - but you will likely be repairing it again soon. I think the part that is broken is called a wig-wag. My husband replaced several on our old machine. This mechanism is what moves the agitator. When it ceases to work, for whatever reason, our old washer wouldn't drain.
I really must get to work . . .
AYankeeCat, What did it do and in what cycle? DH fixed ours this summer after telling the repair guys the problem (they could come schedule us until Sept.) and they said to check something and he did and then ordered the part and 3 days later it was all fixed. He said it was very simple. Let me know. Could be simple. Patti
i feel your pain, Cat!
When we moved to CT from NYC, i swore (bad habit, i know) that i was NOT going to live in another apartment w/o laundry - back in STL i had a W/D in my kitchen! So, we really liked these apartments, and asked - are there laundry facilities in this building? They said, "Yes, in the basement!"
Well. These apts are long, L-shaped 2-story buildings, that are basically made of 4-family flats. Each building has something like 6 of these mini-buildings, with a front door for 4 apts.
The "laundry facilities" in our building are almost at the other end of the L from us - i think the laundromat in Astoria was closer!!!
Well, i learned my lesson about what real estate people will say! Next time, i shall remember to specify - laundry i do NOT have to go OUTDOORS to get to.
(o, and the machines break often - i know what it is like to pull soaking, unspun clothes from washers - yuck - and the dryers run so hot, cotton comes out smelling toasted.)
i should be doing laundry now too, but i hate doing it at night when it is cold...
Everything seems to work except that the water doesn't drain out and it makes an awful noise. I was able to order a new pump for it from an on-line place that I have used before. The pump is right in the front of the box-o-stuff - so I should be able to get the old one out and put the new one in. The hardest part will be getting all the hoses back on in the cramped space. The place I bought the pump from will allow me to return it in 30 days if I don't end up using it. So I figure that I really have not too much to lose. I will run the wet clothes over to my neighbor's house and finish rinsing them there. I can go to the laundromat, too, if I have to.
o good to have someone close by - it would be lousy to have to drag heavy wet soapy clothes to the laundromat!
When my DH comes home from playing hockey (thank goodness our machine works) I will give him your problem and see if is anything he can advise about. We need a "car talk show" for appliances. Love those guys. Patti
The new ones are great though, mine broke last year. I bought a new high efficiency front loader, it weighs the clothes, does a full load in about a quart of water, and uses 'he' soap or 1/2 the regular amount of soap. Great investment, got a full rebate for delivery charges and a rebate from my Electrical Company. It saves a whole lot of water usage. Very happy with it.
He says to go online and look up your model and see the schematic and see where the drain hose comes down with a clip or clamp is. You are looking for the drain hose as opposed to the filling hose. However, you can probably see this without going to the computer.
Take the hose clamp (or clip) off and see if the hose is jammed with something like plant labels as ours was and then it will drain again if it is not the actual pump. You can do this with your fingers. BUT FIRST bail out the water or it will be everywhere. I thought he ordered the new part for that repair but that was an new door latch that was not working correctly after this repair. ME BAD. good luck, Patti
With more discussion with DH, he says that with that bad noise you my have something in the impeller of the pump like a coin, bobbie pin, pen cap etc, but without knowing the pump he can't say if opening it up would be easy. Could be. But the pump could be toast. He knows a bit about pumps from working on boats for years. Patti
Al knows about pumps from years of cross-dressing.
Good luck Yankee Cat. You are braver than me (I?)
Dave47, Do you share your pumps with Victor or does he just wear stilettos? Patti
I think you're confusing me with Al.
Actually, even if I was a woman, you couldn't get me to wear high heels.
Dave47 - you are too funny!
Dave - than I, in this case. Just finish the sentence, "you are braver than I am"; even you (lol) know that braver than me am would sound wrong! :>)
xxx C
What are you referring to Carrie?
