Today's Weather in Your Garden - 7

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Here's the opposite end of the day here. Not as dramatic as Al's. But hey. BRRRRR! It's cold here. 21 degrees F and going down to 18. Tomorrows low is 15. I remember days that were in the 70s this fall. A long, long time ago....

Al - those colors are soooo beautiful!! Boojum - beautiful sunset! Love to watch the sun rise and set. Some of the things in our world give me a sense of awe and the colors that are painted in the sky when the sun rises and sets is one of them. Eleanor

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Al and Booj - ditto Eleanor....lovely on both ends of the day!!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

- Looks cold boojum, I don't blame you for not going out there...
- Awesome pic Al !

Temp 28.6°, Wind W 7.9 mph, Wind Chill 19.3°, Baro 29.47↑, Rh 55%, Dp 14.6°

- A 1hr full blown blizzard in the am followed by sun & winds to 31 mph.

* (a little shout out to pirl, planting bulbs...dress warm out there! ☺)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

My bulbs are due to arrive tomorrow!! Is there a thaw coming??

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

- I would bet not VG, looks downhill from here, I may be wrong but the soil has a crust now (at least down here on LI). Maybe rain will help if it comes soon?

* Edited to say; "if it comes...'

It's NOT snowing and it's cold, but sunny!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Grrrrrrr!!!!!
The only thing I want to plant so that it gets higher is the temperature!
Would you believe that it is only 7* this morning? Thankfully, there is
no wind chill ... yet. I can only imagine what the temps will be like in
January if it is already so cold in early December! This is a bit
unusual.

So the forecast for today:
Temp: 7*
Dew Point: 3*

Sky: Cloudy all day long
Wind: none right now

Humidity: 78%
Visibility: 5 miles

Barometric Pressure: 29.75 and steady

Al and Pixie: Thank you so much for sharing those
stunning photos. Such talent!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Candyce, brrrr! I thought it was cold here!! No fireplace? I had mine roaring the last 2 days while it snowed, guess I should of waited as I may need it more today. Actually sounds like you need it more than me!!!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Our heating system decided to take a vacation during the night so it's cold in here but the plumber will be here soon.

No bulb planting for me! Now I'm ordering bulbs for spring - much nicer to plant in April.

30 outside, low winds (finally) and that 30% chance of snow. I'll stay inside working on my photo program.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Oh, pirl! I hope it's not too cold inside, waiting for the plumber to arrive.

If I get the chance today, I'll join you in that photo work. Most days though, I am so busy with the little ones that it's well after 8 PM before I get time to myself, and by then, I'm just too tired to care ~ LOL!!

My outdoor thermometer must be stuck. It's still just 7 degrees outside.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

The plumber just left, having removed the bad part and finding his spare part was no good. He'll be back in an hour.

We're at 31 outside, 60 inside.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Finally a brief break in the humidity and warm temps here. 61 degrees here at 10:45 this morning. Yowie, Candyce - guess those jars of our grape jelly that we mistakenly left in the house in NH with no heat on will have turned the green futon they're sitting on to purple with temps like that! Can't wait to see that mess!! Does anyone know if the sugar content in grape jelly keeps jars from cracking open in freezing temps?? Someone opined that that may save us. I'm doubtful. My DH and DS reassured me when we discovered we had left the jars behind that "it never gets cold enough to be a problem before Christmas." Yup, I'm sure that's right........eek!!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I do not know if the sugar content will save the futon or not. My! What a mess that will be!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hope you get heat soon, Pirl! Supposed to warm up this weekend. 29 here now.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

24 here now. We aren't supposed to warm up at all for quite a while.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Ah! The glory of heat. We've had it since about 10 AM.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Great. Makes you appreciate modern conveniences, doesn't it?!

This pileated pecker is not in the garden but he would scare the scarecrow out ! The eyes on this guy is evil looking.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

ooooh, Schick, I love the pileated woodpeckers. I miss the little family that we watched all last winter in the "woodpecker condo" we have about 7 palm trees down the sidewalk from us. The parents were frequent visitors in our citrus trees. They were quite large and fun to watch. The babies were so cute when they would stick their heads out to say "good morning". LOL

Here's the empty woodpecker condo now....

Supposed to be near 0 near tonight.

Here's today's weather cows.

Glad to hear you finally got some heat pirl, no time to catch a cold now!

That's a big woodpecker schickenlady!

Temp 29.0, Wind WSW 0.0, Rh 70%, Baro 29.52↑, Dp 20.5

Heavy overcast here all day.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

We get those peckers around here too.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

The Downy ones are the most common here - I love their "laugh".
-Thanks for the cow pic Al ! :-)

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Al - those poor cows.........they look very cold. Zero tonight? Oh, Man! That's COLD....

Tonight just before sunset, it got stormy looking and then the sky was filled with lots of large birds. They may have been turkey vultures, but I've never seen so many together, and their behavior wasn't typical of the TVs, so I'm not sure what they were. Here's the best shot I could get of about a third of them.........

Very artistic, Victor!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thank you. The day after that came the windstorm that removed most of the remaining leaves in the garden.

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Beautiful shots everyone!! Eleanor

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Louise is not going to like hearing this, but ...

The temperature right now is just a measly 4 °
The sun is shining as hard as it can, but it still looks rather weak.
The forecasters say that it could get up to about 28° today, but
it never gets as high as they say it will, at least not around here.

The Dew Point is -1°
The Humidity is at 72%

The winds are out of the south and barely perceptible
Thankfully, that means no wind chill

Visibility is 6 miles
Barometric Pressure is 30.16 and steady

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

pirl:
Is that a normal Southold, NY temperature this time of year? I'm wondering if there are other places where the temperatures are cooler than normal.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Does your actual high temperature match what the forecasters predict for you? Or, are they a few degrees to the positive side?
