Today's Weather in Your Garden - 7

Here's the opposite end of the day here. Not as dramatic as Al's. But hey. BRRRRR! It's cold here. 21 degrees F and going down to 18. Tomorrows low is 15. I remember days that were in the 70s this fall. A long, long time ago....

Al - those colors are soooo beautiful!! Boojum - beautiful sunset! Love to watch the sun rise and set. Some of the things in our world give me a sense of awe and the colors that are painted in the sky when the sun rises and sets is one of them. Eleanor

- I would bet not VG, looks downhill from here, I may be wrong but the soil has a crust now (at least down here on LI). Maybe rain will help if it comes soon?

course NOW i have a million other things to do - almost the end of the semester, show opening soon, etc...
but i bet i'll be out planting.

January if it is already so cold in early December! This is a bit

Candyce, brrrr! I thought it was cold here!! No fireplace? I had mine roaring the last 2 days while it snowed, guess I should of waited as I may need it more today. Actually sounds like you need it more than me!!!

Our heating system decided to take a vacation during the night so it's cold in here but the plumber will be here soon.

No bulb planting for me! Now I'm ordering bulbs for spring - much nicer to plant in April.

30 outside, low winds (finally) and that 30% chance of snow. I'll stay inside working on my photo program.

Oh, pirl! I hope it's not too cold inside, waiting for the plumber to arrive.

If I get the chance today, I'll join you in that photo work. Most days though, I am so busy with the little ones that it's well after 8 PM before I get time to myself, and by then, I'm just too tired to care ~ LOL!!

My outdoor thermometer must be stuck. It's still just 7 degrees outside.

The plumber just left, having removed the bad part and finding his spare part was no good. He'll be back in an hour.

We're at 31 outside, 60 inside.

Finally a brief break in the humidity and warm temps here. 61 degrees here at 10:45 this morning. Yowie, Candyce - guess those jars of our grape jelly that we mistakenly left in the house in NH with no heat on will have turned the green futon they're sitting on to purple with temps like that! Can't wait to see that mess!! Does anyone know if the sugar content in grape jelly keeps jars from cracking open in freezing temps?? Someone opined that that may save us. I'm doubtful. My DH and DS reassured me when we discovered we had left the jars behind that "it never gets cold enough to be a problem before Christmas." Yup, I'm sure that's right........eek!!

I do not know if the sugar content will save the futon or not. My! What a mess that will be!!

This pileated pecker is not in the garden but he would scare the scarecrow out ! The eyes on this guy is evil looking.

ooooh, Schick, I love the pileated woodpeckers. I miss the little family that we watched all last winter in the "woodpecker condo" we have about 7 palm trees down the sidewalk from us. The parents were frequent visitors in our citrus trees. They were quite large and fun to watch. The babies were so cute when they would stick their heads out to say "good morning". LOL

Al - those poor cows.........they look very cold. Zero tonight? Oh, Man! That's COLD....

Tonight just before sunset, it got stormy looking and then the sky was filled with lots of large birds. They may have been turkey vultures, but I've never seen so many together, and their behavior wasn't typical of the TVs, so I'm not sure what they were. Here's the best shot I could get of about a third of them.........

and a few closer over our house. The directv dish adds a lot as always!! LOL

We walked down to the river, and just as George said in the "Marine Biologist" episode of Seinfeld, "The sea was angry, My Friends"...........
