Today's Weather in Your Garden - 7

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Hooray! The temperature is 24°, and I am so thrilled to find that it's so warm outside! (Not that I'll be outside much today - LOL!)

The skies are cloudy with a very slight breeze from the South.

Dew Point: 20°
Humidity: 85%

Visibility: 5 miles
Barometric Pressure: 30.17 and steady

Sunrise: 7:07 Sunset: 4:14

Only two weeks until the Solstice!!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Yes, it is very sunny and 37 so we'll attack the asparagus field today.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Do you mound it up, pirl?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

First all the stalks and fronds have to be cut back since they've gone brown, as usual. They go in the pile for chipping. Then it's weeding and mulching, then cocktails and dinner.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

33 and overcast. Just for an update - I asked kiska her sunrise / set times. Sunrise 9:58 AM and sunset 3:37!!!!!! Mamma mia! How high can the sun get?

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Ah!
I thought that you might create mounds over them, like the Germans do.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Mounds of compost?

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

I think she means mounds of whatever to make white asparagus. I had them in Paris. Yum!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

My neighbor, of pure German heritage, bought the white ones but overcooked them.

They need total darkness to remain white so even with all the stalks light would come through and they'd be green. Once I had our own fresh asparagus I couldn't eat any we could even buy at farm stands. I love picking them 10 minutes before we eat them!

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

I used to have a few. I got you beat, pirl, cause they never made it inside. I couldn't wait that long-had to eat them raw. I should have planted them here. I miss gardening and eating as you weed.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I eat the skinny ones outside as I'm cutting others for dinner. We also eat the berries outside and I've never yet made a blueberry or raspberry pie from our own. The cherry tomatoes seldom make it inside - only if there's more than 100. Tomatoes, kissed by the sun, and still ever so slightly warm are pure heaven.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Mild, 34 and sunny for a while. I put some lights on a crabapple tree. Hopefully I will like the look once it is dark enough to see. Wrapped the individual branches.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Temp 42.4°, Wind WNW 10.2, Rh 52%, Baro 30.00 S, Dp28.3°

Sunny, slight haze.

Generally busy day 4/me today. Heavier traffic than usual out there due to Xmas shopping no doubt.

...just wanted to add this link. ☺

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Deb - please show us your crabapple tree!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Not quite as high up as I should have gone, but my balance is terrible, and I went as high as I felt safe on a step ladder. Oh well, maybe next year I'll get more height in the branches.

Very nice: very artsy!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Very nice. In the middle, just above where the two 'arms' go up, I see what looks like two eyes, a nose and a mouth!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I see a graceful hand.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Start at the orange color to the left - I guess from a house, and move straight across. In the middle of the trunk, your cursor will hit the 'mouth'.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks everyone, Victor I do see a face!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

That's lovely, Deb! Thanks for risking your neck to share that with us. I think it looks terrific!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Send your hubby to take the shot next time!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Taking the pic was no trouble, putting the lights up was risky for me as I am accident prone. DH was busy today, so I just decided to put them up. First time trying stringing lights like that, maybe I'll get a bigger ladder out tomorrow and try to get them up higher.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Careful, Deb!! It looks really good to me just as it is!

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Deb - it looks great! Eleanor

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Deb, I think they look great just as they are, no need to go higher!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks again all, DH just told me the same thing...

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I agree - they're high enough!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Deb,
That's so great! I love how you have gracefully lit the tree.
Thank you for sharing, and risking your neck for us.

Thanks, pixie. I had to take it quickly as the brilliant colors were fading so fast!
How come, I wonder, your barometric pressure is rising, and mine is falling.
Ah! The wonders of Mother Nature.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Beautiful, Candyce. 32 here and cloudy. We're in for an ice storm later on.

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Candyce - that is such a beautiful photo!! Eleanor

(Red sky in the morning, sailors take warning - is that red sky a sign of things coming our way tonight_

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Thanks.
Yeah. Another messy one which says that the kids may not have school tomorrow.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Candyce - What a spectacular picture! I think you captured the color nicely, even though it may have been even brighter in person. I like the way you took the shot through the stark tree branches.

My camera battery is dead and so I missed a really pretty sunset shot tonight. The sun looked HUGE and like it was a big fireball.

Oh, Man - snow again for so many of you? At least the kids can stay home and get excited looking at the lighted Christmas tree!! I have loved snow days my entire adult life......wonderful found time!....didn't get many of those after I left teaching though.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Pirl - I think this goes opposite with your wearing your winter coat earlier every year.

C'mon Louise - you need better excuses than a dead battery.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Very funny, Al.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Al - the point escaped me. Maybe there's not enough contrast with my blonde hair.

39 here and no wind but it's wet outside.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

32 and luckily, not the bad ice that was predicted. More rain this week.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Maybe we should all have our dentist speak for us.
