Merry, Merry Christmas.

I know the person who suggested St. Louis probably had no idea, but CBS just did a show recently and that city is the most dangerous city in America now, topping Detroit...that held the "honor" for several years. You can Google "crime rate St. Louis MO" and read it. I just checked to make sure I wasn't snoozing when I heard that.

I know every city has its "bad area" but when you're a tourist, it's easy to get lost and not know where to go!

Please take that into consideration when selecting a city. :-)

I'm confused
Is this a round-up
or a convention?
I'd be interested if there would be a lot of vendors selling things I can't buy locally
or speakers / workshops that can show me hands on how to do things
that are a challenge

But as much as I love to meet DG's If I spent my mortgage
payment to fly 2/3 of the way across the country I want a nice hotel,
some pampering and some perks
and everything centrally located so I don't have to travel when I get there
Dang I sound like a witch

A round up is fine for camping
This is suppose to be something different isn't it?

Yes crested, you wont be disappointed. We are going to have all the perks, hotels, vendors, workshops, speakers, an honorary dinner, garden tours, etc. It is not a Round Up. You will love it. We promise. And no you don't sound like a witch. We all love the RU's, but this is going to be different and soon the membership will have the details.

Mitch are you serious with those numbers up there? 100, 200 dollars? you got to be kidding. lol
I have already calculated my trip to the Iowa RU in May is going to cost me 1K, so hopefully what you are planning will not take place until 2009, oh oh, we are going to Spain in 2009. I hope College Station is still on this Spring. I am getting very nervous!

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

We dont know... we need to see how many people are coming, Sylvia we would LOVE 50 bucks but we know if less people want to come we might have to go up on that.

Perhaps your main committe should be meeting and iron out the bare bones schedule and date.

Then concentrate on DGer's input on the content they are looking for . . . once you narrow that down . . . people can give you more honest feedback about coming.

It is a given that no matter the format . . people will get acquainted . . some will still do something about plants . . and there will be eating. Through round-ups we have toured DG gardens, public gardens, had speakers (other DGers), had someone organize crafts and games for children; we have had music provided by DGers and great little skits done by DGer's. We have also had wonderful door prizes donated by vendors.

Concentrate on what can be offered that people haven't had in their round-ups . . that sets it apart from them.

Contact the "Show Planners" who set up national wholesale shows for gardening products - we would be given passes to attend their show and a special admittance fee (less than what they charge those people who are "in the business"). We would be able to see all the new products coming out.

We have quite a few DG members who are retailers or work for some of the big retailors (ie Gardener's Supply Company). At these shows they only get feedback from retailers not gardeners. It could be a valuable information gathering tool to have us there. Perhaps some of our own can give you the dates and places the big shows are held.

If we could link our National Meeting with one of the shows that might be a draw for DGers. And they already have speakers lined up for those shows.
