New Feature for DG?

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

i love my crocs - my feet never slip out of mine unless i want them to!
(i have 2 pair of actual crocs and 2 pair of fake ones - couldn't believe how much better the real ones are!)

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

My neighbors think I'm just plain weird!! I have one who hollers across the road, "whatcha doing now, Eleanor: or why are you doing that?" He's trying to be funny but it gets annoying after a while. He's really nice when he's serious but his sense of humor is horrible. We had a tornado warning one time and he left in his truck and a few seconds later came racing back down the road shouting there was one coming. Several other neighbors and I were in the road discussing the weather and scared the *#@% out of us. He thought it was hillareous - we didn't!! Back to weird gardening practices instead of weird neighbors, I carry a baby monitor around with me when I'm in the garden and I try to grow plants in places with lousy soil that only grows poison ivy. Oh, maybe the weirdest thing I've ever done is pull out poison ivy or is that just plain stupid? Eleanor

There was some school system near us in NH that would not allow the kids to wear crocs because some kids got hurt when their feet slipped out of them on the playground. LOL That's where I got that from, Amy. I can't say mine have ever slipped out!

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

I bought some cheap garden shoes at Target once and had to use duct tape to keep them on. LOL
I thought it was just me, but now it sounds like there could be a problem keeping them on.
Your neighbor sounds like a real character.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Eleanor - I see nothing wierd about your garden practices! LOL

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Thank you Louise - maybe it's my neighbors that are weird then!! Eleanor

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

From what you've said, I'd say that's more likely!!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Consensus say ....
"Weird neighbors make for fun stories."

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I thought that was "survey SAYS--" but I haven't watched daytime TV in so long I wouldn't know. xx, Carrie

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Candyce - any snow totals yet???

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Here, the guy next door annoyingly scraped it all up while it was happening. (Some people have way too much time on their hands!) Ours melted and then turned into slush and then froze. Yuck. Some other people, and I'm thinking of my DH here, have not nearly enough time on their hands. x, C

edited to say that it's starting to look like just another one of Victor's NE forum threads, hunh?

Sorry to say - while I'm not looking at frozen ground, It sounds like the guy next door had just the right amount of time on his hands. Now if he turned it into the worlds largest snowball or snowman, That would have been too much time.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

LOL This is the guy who mows the lawn 4 - 5 times a week in the summer. We only had a few inches accumulation. DH works at the airport - thank goodness he wasn't at work yesterday, or he might still be there. xx, C

I am never one to complain when threads wander - it's the nature of the beast and I've done a lot of wandering myself. However, no one has weighed in on the original idea of the thread in quite some time. Things don't happen / change at DG unless the masses show interest!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Showing interest here!

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

Considering how far off the beaten path this thread had gotten, I had to go back to see what the original topic was actually about. Not complaining, just stating the facts, Ma'am... er... um... Sir...

I really like the idea of seeing the whole yard. I love to see wonderful close-ups of plants and flowers, but seeing everything in perspective really inspires me to try and have a more organized yard. Not that mine IS an organized yard. Only in my own mind. But it gives me hope that some day, mine might be organized.

UniQueTreasures, I agree. I enjoy the macroshots alot too.But is nice to be able to view the entire plant in relation to the rest of the garden so I can get a better feel for how that would or wouldn't work for me.

edited to add spaces between words due to a sticky space bar on my keypad.

Beautiful Jan - very refreshing for us to see up here in the north this time of year. I am very interested in how gardens are put together and seeing the whole picture or plan. I went from this to........... Eleanor

Lovely garden, UniqueT!!

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

this. I dug out orange ditch lilies that were in this area and started a new flower garden. Still a lot of work to do in it but I have all winter to plan. Eleanor

p.s. Love to get ideas of what other people are doing to help me with those plans and dreams. Also started clearing out down below the bank and it's full of poison ivy instead of orange ditch lilies!!

Eleanor - that is just my kind of garden!! What a nice transformation! It looks so cool and peaceful......like the bird box too!

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

That is wonderful Eleanor! Just beautiful! You can see all of the hard work that has gone into your landscaping.

Thanks Folks! Having those coleus in little planters helped a lot. I've taken cuttings of everything that I want to keep for next year and am hoping they survive being inside the house in water and sphagnum moss. Hubby put a FEMA blue tarp over the back deck tonight. It's got 3 sides covered so far. I put all of my big plants in planters in there that I thought might need extra protection. The rest of my stuff will be just fine. I may need to clothes pin a sheet around the scheffleras. We don't get too many freezing nights around here, but I still have to get ready, just in case. We did get snow on Christmas Day in 2004. And we had an ice storm one year that knocked out the power for quite a few days. I know, it's an every year thing for the folks up north to have to deal with.

Now, to take us back off track for just a minute.... I was looking at the just posted links on the home page and saw the Christmas decorating in the NE forum. Y'all have got some pretty stuff posted in that thread! I didn't get a chance to post anything, but I will do so soon. I love seeing other people's decorations. It give me ideas for my own house....

And to get back on track... much like something like this would.

(How'dya like that "steering" Victor?!!!) HAHAHAHAHA

Janet

Looking forward to seeing your decorations, Janet!

Good job, Janet!

That's a beautiful garden spot, Eleanor. You have inspired me for next season.

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Eleanor, lovely spot, nice path, good to see the bridge , and the bench. altogether very pretty.

Here is a summer area of my garden.

Thanks everyone! That is a beautiful garden, Donna! Eleanor

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Lovely, Donna! What are those 2 really tall tree?

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Thanks for the compliments. That is the view from my deck at the east and front of the house. The two tall evergreens are 7 year old Chamaecyparis nootkatensis pendula Alaska Cedar., my sentinels, the birds love them. they are 25 or 30 feet tall now,, Actually I said 7 yr. old, but what i should have said is they have been planted in my yard for 7 years. They are beginning to branch now.

Donna

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Cool trees, Donna........and note I used the plural in this post as opposed to the sloppy non-editing in the one above...."2 really tall tree" LOL

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Victor, I haven't figured out quite how Landscaping.com works yet, but i went over and looked at it today (for the first time ever, okay?) and I don't see why it couldn't do what we're wanting your idea to do. People could pose before, during and after pictures. That's one thing that my grandmother and my father both had that I don't seem to have inherited - the ability to visualize something without a wall or tree or hill. I think Landscaping is not as user friendly as DG is... YET, but I think it's got the whole plant shots we like. x, Carrie

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

First - as I said way up in the thread, gardening is much more than landscaping. More importantly, DG is where most of the eyes are, not on the 'sister' sites.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Landscaping.com is just not as easily navigated as DG. As more people put up their pictures I find it harder to get around over there.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Yeah, I agree there, landscaping.com is really hard to negotiate. x, c

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

It's interesting. I don't find the need to go anywhere but here. I haven't found this site lacking in anything I need or want to know yet......

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I have glanced at Landscaping.com and even Blooms.com once each. I find DG to be much more user friendly.
