forgot to say Good night!
Betty, too funny, I think I have the same runner! Yes the candles are a beautiful touch.

...Carol, how nice, glad your neighbor enjoyed your project too...Sweet success...

just smiling big here.

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

I'm sitting here smiling and I didn't even do one. It was just some much fun following the thread!

N.C. Mts., NC(Zone 6b)

Ves, I'm doing the same.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Ready for bed..enjoyed your photo's Judy..now you are all crafting...lol...

The runner, did you mean the one under the glass cranberry candle piece??? I'm not finished, I'm painting that runners...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Judy, went back to your photo's..you put much too much effort in painting the background..you were to slap the paint on as in the first few photo's, place the saran wrap and work it so they blend to get soft/soft look..sleighs are pretty but if you try my method you will see they look so soft and have texture...just point of reference if you are doing more sweetie...

Glenview, IL

ohhh, Waaah, guess I should have smooshed more...
it's ok though...I really like how it turned out.
I am making more so will be sure to really smoosh. First always a test
now I know what I am doing

Victoria Harbour, ON

Too cute...did you find extra Santa's..if not, I'll check with my girls..know they have a lot..might be willing to share..cheap/cheap

(Cathy), MO

I liked the way all of them turned out. One thing about it, they are all an original. No other one exactly like it anywhere!

Victoria Harbour, ON

That's what I like as well..between all the classes here last year we did way over 100 and if you lined them all up not one the same...

(Cathy), MO

Betty what will I need to get to make mine? Not sure what's in the box that's coming

Victoria Harbour, ON

Pattern for the sleigh, diamond dust, sparkles and 'dap' which is used as the snow and of course a Victorian Santa....

Know you will need:

plastic wrap (saran wrap or any other you have in the house)
white/blue - 2 darkest and lightest blue- green - dark & light tones
sm bottle of podgy (not gloss)
I like a few sponge brushes -- $$$ Store type

(Cathy), MO

Ok thanks! I have a dumb question. What is "podgy"?????

Victoria Harbour, ON

you can get it at Michaels...its what you apply to the sleigh top to adhere the santa, then again in a later step you apply over the santa..dries clear..almost a glue type substance...

(Cathy), MO

Ok thanks!

cat,

It is actually called "Mod Podge". It is a thick paste kind of a thing that you can paint over things to "seal them in". It dries in about 15 minutes and you can apply a new coat until whatever you are sealing in is sealed in. Think of it a very, very thick Elmers glue.

The nice thing about "Mod Podge" is that as you layer it, until it totally coats whatever it is you are covering and it will actually create a "brushed" effect on the surface--if that is what you desire.

I have done cut out paper/napkin/wrapping paper designs on clay pots and wood chip boxes using the same guidelines Betty told you all about. The more layers you apply--the more "embedded" the design becomes. It basically seals things in--layer by layer.

Betty----I have a question about your "Victorian Santas" prints.

WHERE can you get these prints in such a large size?
My daughter, (one day) plans to make a real, Victorian Santa. Being the all-caring Mom-- I am trying to send her pictures of all kinds of Victorian Santas for whenever she will get around to it.
WHERE did you get your Santa designs? Is there a Web-site for these? They are SO beautiful!!!!!

Betty, I have followed up with all your Posts and the "Sleigh" thing.
You are just sooo incredibly generous of your time and sooo talented!
I, like all the others, just do not know how you do it all.

For the first time--here it is:

The best--My SOIL was here for 2 days installing a new hard drive to my computer and, endlessly, copying all my old files and things I wanted to save. He is SO good at all this! I will soon be buying a new Monitor, as my old one is, literally, growing dim.

The worst---He did not think he needed to copy all my Earthlink stuff, as it would "come with it" when he installed the new computer hard drive. Well---It did NOT! SO! I lost ALL my "inbox" and ALL my "address book"--and all my "sent"--and all my "trash" (that I had not deleted) Basically--I lost about 1200 saved e-mails that were just too precious to not have. Really a compulsive amount.......BUT--I always wanted to have them on hand to "maybe" send them to someone when the opportunity seemed "right".

What I learned---That that old "Crap" is not all that important! I have been struggling with the idea of how to decide on what to keep and what to delete out of about 1800 saved e-mails. Al those "precious" saves and forwards I wanted to save FOREVER!!!!!
Now they are gone! Saves me the trouble! I just have to "pretend" that they did not matter to me at all......Boooo---Hooo----:o(

BUT--He upgraded me from Windows 2000 Professional to Windows XP and cleansed my old hard-drive in the process. I just will have to get used to the new ways of getting to all the things I am used to getting to.

Oh, well! You win some---and you lose some! Then--You go on!

Gita

Hey Gita, Big bummer on losing some stuff, I know I lost thousands of photos! Well not lost just in old computer that someday will try and retrieve. Your new system should have a disk drive you could always save them on CD.

OK...Betty, this has bothered me all day, I did slather paint and saran wrap, smoosh...so maybe was I suppose to crumple saran first the smoosh? I just laid it flat and rubbed around where paint met...Plus I used a sponge painter instead of brushes, I am still pouting mine was wrong, want my gifts to be right...remember you sent me 8 Santas and they are already cut and ready...I have checked and rechecked and Our JoAnnes doesn;t have anything like them. Think I'll practice this smooshing thing!

morning girls..Gitagal..nice to see you post..sorry I did not get back sooner however, as Judy here will attest..I'm just starting to move around after an 18 wheeler truck decided to side swipe me on Monday..so today, I'm in the office, feet up, staying quiet and that's quite a chore for me...

The Victorian Santa's are material..when I designed this project and we did a few years ago well over 100, we found these..they came in 4 designs..we had Fabricland contact all their stores and ship them to us..I'm nearing the end of mine but have 2 girlfriends who I am sure are willing to share...

Now on the continuing threat of "Best/Worse and What did I learn today" I posted information pertaining to one of the nicest pieces that I made..done on a tomato cage using your choice of blue/green/red or maroon velvet..this project I did about 14 years ago..the type of braided beard hair I could no longer find..did search the web and ordered some..they thought I might get it next week..let's hope..at the time, I purchased molds to pour the faces and then painted them all for the girls..it was a quick and easy project but the outcome amazed all who made it..if daughter is interested let me know..I'll probably be sending out faces should she want any...

Nice to have new computer isn't it? Just replaced my old one this summer, was slower than pouring molasses...my son is VP of a computer firm which design programs for i.e. IBM..next time he visits I want him to transfer all my photo's only..the rest can go bye/bye then I'llgive it to some young child who wouldn't otherwise get one...

Judy..your pieces turned out wonderful for your first attempt..do not be so hard on yourself..what I was trying to say was perhaps after you smooshed, I think you removed the saran to do the clouds, if you think you need more white clouds and/or snow banks, dabble some white, put more saran wrap and work it into same paint..now you must work fairly quickly as your background paint must be moveable... then by taking saran wrap, making a ball but thining it to a narrow piece, you dab making the trees..did you use acrylic paints i.e. from Michaels or canned paints..they will react differently as well..can paints will dull each other out...

You let me know sweetie when you'll , and I'll take more photo's of making the trees....how you work the saran to act like a brush...enjoy helping out, you know that...lol

Well here is mine..not a good pic of it..looks better in person. I am very happy with it for a first time for this kind of project. I will put a gold ribbon or cord to hang it properly..
