Zuzu almost got her doctorate at Cornell too, but she decided to get married instead. Bad, bad choice. You can take the blonde out of California, but you can't take California out of the blonde.
Some good friends from other forums...
What was your major, Zuzu? Wow - Fordham is a stone's throw from the NYBG!
It was comparative literature, Victor, although I ended up getting my doctorate in Berkeley in comparative theology.
At least you made it through alive, much unlike your Florida roses through no fault of your own.
Seems you like to compare a lot, Zuzu. I'd be worried being your husband!! Are you still into lit?
No, and I'm not into husbands either. Comparative politics is my field now.
Not comparative roses?
Unfortunately, that doesn't pay the bills or even provide me with a nice writeoff.
True, but a nice send-off each day!
That's true, and roses don't get sullen and surly and start monopolizing the phone when they reach adolescence.
You wuz robbed, by the way. Your lavatera photo was far and away the best photo in the annuals category.
It certainly was!
Thank you. As I have been joking, I should have 'lobbied' my friends to vote for me, but that's so tacky. Deb, who one first, is very nice so I don't mind losing out to her. Ironically, I thought the best the photo I submitted was the Maple leaf on the Blue Spruce. Thanks again to both of you!
Zuzu, very impressive!
So, after comparing religions, which one won? Or am I being to competitive? ;^)
They are all winners - except the ones that don't make money ****stepping up to the line and leaning over it****
The same religion I went in with, Dave. None.
Zuzu, I am so delighted you are hanging around here more... please be here always my dear CA friend... bring Kell and Sue... they should be here too...
Hi EVERYONE!!!!!! I can't keep up with all of you... I have been so busy... I have a research proposal to do... needless to say it's interesting but very hard for me to simply choose something easy...
I cleaned up this past Sunday... goodness gracious talk about being blonde... I do things really the harder way... imagine that I tryed to just mulch the leaves by using the lawn mower... oh I hated it... I got a leaf shredder today - ordered from Amazon... so I should have tons of nice shreded leaves for the beds... imagine that every morning the raised beds are already frozen... so I guess I can pile mulch around the roses ...
So much to clean still...
anyway... big hug to all of you!!!!
The lawn mower works fine (using a catcher, of course) for adding to compost but doesn't shred them as a good machine will.
Al's dahlias and his photos have me making more and more room for more of them. I have the earth prepared for replanting next year but still need to move out more daylilies to enlarge the area.
Nothing like a great photo to get us all inspired. Right, pirl?
Sure! I'd certainly consider Victor's pond area if I didn't have a young grandchild.
That would be a far walk.
Thanks Pirl - I would feel bad though if you are down to only 70 heads of lettuce next year.
This is just the winter crop, Al. The summer crop is done about two weeks before the tomatoes start to ripen and the bacon just never grows for us.
Cute, Victor!
Bacon tree sounds good. Did you try planting the bits then?
Haven't managed to grow the bacon at all nor the mayo.
Think Kevin Bacon and Virginia Mayo are related?? Some might say she was quite a tomato!
when i was growing up, i thought she was like the most beautiful woman ever! Well, her and Barbara Bain as Cinnamon on Mission Impossible.
There were many gorgeous ones in years past. Sophia, Natalie, Liz, Ava, etc. As a kid, I was in love with Barbara Eden, Elizabeth Montgomery, Karen Valentine, Jaclyn Smith and many more!
Zu just reminded me of this thread tonight so I rushed over before I got sidetracked. Hello Kassia! Hello everyone! I surely am Kassia's friend and I already have met some of you, even friends with some of you. I grew up in NJ, went to Boston College then moved to California where you can buy grass (both kinds, amethystsm) legally in the doobie delis all over here. Only in California! Actually I am not sure that is true. Can you buy medicinal grass in other states, also?
We also have bacon trees, Pirl!
uh oh...3 Califonians have started to invade the NEG forum...I come here for the humor...(pirl gave me permission).
Kell: since when can you buy pot legally in Calif? Not that I want any, but the alley dealers will not like this idea.
Zuzu needs to tell you all about the pot smokers who trimmed her trees...
Yeah, you can't pay them by the hour.
But we are all hot California blondes so it is OK, JasperDale!
I can't remember when they made it legal to buy it, years ago. You do need to go to a doctor and get an OK to buy it pass for medical reasons and then you get a ID card. And from what I see on TV, they take any medical reason like can't sleep. They have these delis all over!!
I heard on the news yesterday that a new study found that it's effective in stopping the spread of the most aggressive cancer cells. Animal trials will begin soon, and clinical trials will follow. What luck, huh? For once, there's a remedy we all can find easily enough without waiting for the clinical trials to be completed.
Welcome kell and congrats on your photos in the contest - beautiful!
Hiya, Kell!!!
It's so nice to 'meet' another friend of Kassia!!! I hope you enjoy it so much here in the NE Forum that you hang around a long, long time.
are any of you california blondes (i dated a fiddler who called his amp a "California Blonde" but i don't know if that's a real name or not. It was light colored. But he was kinda strange too.) anywhere near Palm Desert? i'm going there for a few days in January...
Hi Kell! i feel like we just talked... o wait we did. funny how you bump into people in multiple contexts here!

Thank you Victor! After seeing so many fantastic photos, I have a long way to go!
Zu, are you talking about grass? That would be incredible, it could be oh so cheap. Imagine if it wasn't so cheap, there would be all sorts of research on it for all the ailments it seems to help. Lots of cancer patients use it to combat nausea. I wonder if it helped them get cured.
Oh Candyce, Kassia has so many friends. When she was here she had calls constantly. She is a bright light attracting us all. I am a northeastner by roots though I have lived here in California for about 33 years. Gosh, I am getting so old! I forget.
Amethystsm, we live in Northern Ca. near San Francisco. Hope you have a great trip!
Oh my God the crazy California potheads have invaded!
Hi Kell. You helped me out when I was learning about roses a while back too. Thanks again.
Dave
Is pot good for roses?
Ask 'Barbra Streisand'.
