CLOSED: UNUSUAL SEED SWAP #2

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

We want to be careful - many people support the President - and DG really isn't the forum for political discussion - (she gently suggests . . . )

*laughs* Theresa - I love that picture and that cool Turkey Lamp, I just died laughing when I saw the lamp. Who's the guy in the pic? your hubby?

I have been thinking about this History Garden and it's a go. I think it would be a really cool garden. I'm going to start on it this week. This will give me time to do the Lasagna thing. Besides since my lawn tractor crapped out, I have to haul the stuff from the barn to the yard in a wheel barrel. (no fun there).

Dolly, my grandfather lived with Jane Ford in 1880's, she is the cousin to Zerelda James and supposedly the mother (step mother) to Robert Ford. The one who shot Jesse. My grandfather grew up around a lot of roughnecks and he became one too, a knife fighter and a good one.

I have also got my family tree back to the 1200's. My umpteenth grandfather was the first Waldo here in the states 1564. His son Edward married Thankful Dimmick who was the 13th great granddaughter to King Henry the III. (wish I had some flowers from that line).

Anyway, I have Batchelors Buttons from Jane Fords gardens, lilies and a few irises from a the first homestead in this area, columbine from Ireland that was from a home that has been there for over a hundred years.

Hey Huck meet Wooly.

Wooly Bully, Wooly Bully, Wooly Bully, come on now! Wooly Bully, fade out.

That's so far out man.

Nelson, NH(Zone 5a)

So Robyn-I don't really do evergreen cuttings-but if you want to try the rhodie or laurel from May Sarton let me know! I could also save seeds from them next year. It could be fun going to historical places and snatch seeds!!
Peggy- I could send you cuttings for the elderberry next year-I also have the black lace which is OOOH LA LA!!!-But let me add that this was its first year in the garden, so let's hope it has a good winter. I have a few epimedium with long lost names, but I looked up the 'Rose Queen', 'Pinnatum' and sorry no go-but my are they pretty ones!!! I am also looking for the dianthus desmond-they grow true to seed and are quite lovely!

Thanks to those who self-edited their comments, and for those who gently steered the conversation away from politics.

As a reminder, paragraph 7(a) of the Acceptable Use Policy reads:

Quoting:
As of Nov 6, 2002, discussion and debate of a political nature, and debate of a religious nature are not allowed on the site.

Nelson, NH(Zone 5a)

Thanks Terry-I feel quite naughty-but in truth everyone here is so very nice, it's much better to talk about plants than all the political mumbo jumbo-to put it politely

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

I'm such an airhead, I forgot to tell all of you that I would love to put all those flowers in this garden.

I took my GD to school today and got in a conversation with her teacher about guess what, flowers and I told her about the History garden and she thinks that it would be a great field trip to see it when it's finished and in bloom. She was going to tell a few of the other teachers about it also and maybe come up with more flowers for the garden. I guess it is a go.

Thanks everyone for the offers I do appreciate it.

Fair Grove, MO(Zone 6b)

Flowerhead We have quite a few cuttings to swap next spring don't we.

Nelson, NH(Zone 5a)

Sounds good Peggy! I still have many plants to add and unfortunately many poor varieties with their names loooooooooong loooooooooost!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kalama, WA(Zone 8b)

I spent most of the day going through my seeds and packaging them up. Just have a few more boxes to look through and I should have everything ready to go. Will most likely be sending out by the weeks end.
Just wanted to let you know I've been working on it. :-)

Joy

Nelson, NH(Zone 5a)

I'm in about the same place-by week's end I should have them out-Kath

Marine City, MI(Zone 5a)

ok ladies and gentlemen, I need your help. My friend has sent seeds for the unusual swap #2. She doesnt know the name except that it may contain the word Japanese. its a bush with beautiful pink blooms in spring and turns into cool white berries in the fall.
Anyone know the name of this? I have lots of seed to share. The berries are bright white and look cool all over the plant. Its not a baneberry....

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

Is it Doll's eyes? I definately want some seeds whatever it is.
Tommie

Fair Grove, MO(Zone 6b)

Me too. The bush sounds very pretty.

Marine City, MI(Zone 5a)

its beautiful. We havent been able to ID it.
Its not dolls eye/baneberry.
Good! If I dont find the name by the time its ready to swap I'll just call it Lori's Japanese white berry bush and you all can choose that way.
When everyone started saying what they wanted, I started to keep track, but it was too much and too confusing for me. So....after all seeds arrive everyone can choose then by emailing me directly. That worked out great last time :) Dont stop posting what you want here. Its fun to see everyones excitement!

hickory, NC(Zone 7a)

i would love some too lol and thxs cant wait hehehehehe

Southern, United States

have you posted in the plant identification forum? One of them might have a real good idea what they may be......

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Seeds are on their way today :-)

Chickenville, FL(Zone 9a)

Cannagirl, I would love some of your seeds. Please let me know what the postage is and if you want any on my submitted seeds list I may have some extra. I am starting a bunch more passiflora cuttings so if there is a passie you are looking for let me know-maybe I can start you one?

I agree about the history garden~sounds awesome. I like themed gardens, it appeals to my disorganized nature , LOL! Didn't Thomas Jefferson grow the single black hollyhocks? Thought I read that somewhere -but may have that mixed up :P

Geez, speaking of George bush. My step dad is the splitting image of him. I wish I had his military ID. He looks exactly like him in that photo and gets asked all the time if he is related LMAO!!

Marine City, MI(Zone 5a)

thanks moretz...Ive forwarded them on to Lori. I have about 10 packs of these if extra are wanted. :)

Chesapeake, VA

Unusual Seed Swap #2 seed pack on the way.

1 Castor Bean plant
2 Black Locust Tree seed packs
1 Cathedral Bells vine (purple)
1 Anise
2 Lady Baltimore Hibiscus seed packs (in plastic for isolation so it doesn't get buggy - or at least if it gets buggy it won't spread buggy-ness. I apologize in advance if that happens). I've had these for several months, about 5 seed pods. One did go buggy. The others seem OK, but you can never tell.

Carlisle, PA(Zone 6b)

Is it too late for me to get in this one? I have Honey Locust, Lavender Crape Myrtle, Cassia hebecarpa, Cassia marylandica (both hardy to zone 6), Air potatoes (also hardy to zone 6), Some seeds I know not the name of but they were in a package with something called "curly pods, " Baptisia australis, Lapyrousia cruenta "Joan Evans," Puerto rican pea vine (LQ), Cassia alata (Candlestick tree), Solanum mammosum (LQ), and others I have to "weed though" to see what I have. Let me know if I can still get in on this one. Never did an "unusual" seed swap before. BTW, LQ means limited quantity. Thanks again. Buttoneer

Marine City, MI(Zone 5a)

I walked down to the mailbox today to send my seeds off, but found the mail carrier came earlier than usual. So now I'll have to wait until Monday.

Nelson, NH(Zone 5a)

Hey Theresa,
I'm sorry-we have had a very busy time here this last week preparing for winter. I did not have a chance to send out the pack and tomorrow we are getting a nor'easter storm. I can just back out gracefully or send my pack out Tuesday. LMK I'm fine either way, I'm sure there will be plenty more!-Kath
