This Fuji Shibori bloomed today also... it is still open. I love this flower. This is inside.

Wow! I can't believe they are blooming that nicely indoors! How cool!!!! :-)
WOW! Very pretty base! What's the birdbath going to look like?
Welll, the outside will also be in blue glass, the inside I want to put a hummingbird, IF I CAN.. I have to draw one and then cut glass to fit it. lol. which I will attempt to do tonight..
A.
Oh! You'll have to take a photo when it is all done! Sounds lovely! :-) I had the good fortune of finally seeing a hummer (probably a Rubythroat) in my yard. I had never seen one in real life before! It was so cool to actually see one after 2 years of planting TONS of hummer nectar plants and waiting and waiting and waiting! LOL! I haven't seen it back since (maybe a migratory hummer). But at least one found my yard and all my red flowers! LOL! I hope to have more visit. Feeders are up now, too! Do hummers like Morning Glory nectar?

Pretty Blooms.
On the 'Sugar Plum'

I also have seeds, but haven't grown them yet.
I like it!
Who will ever know if it is from 'Plum Shadows' I traded a lot of seeds with this seller, but to me it doesn't look to be the same. Still pretty!
Antoinette . . .
What a clever idea with your bird bath.
LOVE IT!
Emma
Thanks Emma, I will keep it at 'Suger plum' then.
A., I love your bird bath!!

MG ID needed in Plant Identification forum
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/774304/
I am currently preferring to use the Romaji term kikyo to refer to the star shaped flowers and have seen the same types marketed as 'Jishi'...the kikyo term seems to keep a focus on the shape whereas the 'jishi' has nothing to do with describing the actual physical characteristics and is more of a 'poetic' term...
I'm thinking that leaning towards greater clarification of the physical characteristics is better than poetic names at least until more people become familiar with these types...
TTY,...
Ron
P.S. - Planning on re-starting another thread related to Romaji terms and sure hope the focus can remain on the topic...(!)

Thanks Ron.
I'am so glad you brought up the name Jishi, it was confusing me too, I didn't know exactly what the name "Jishi" was referring to.
Thanks Emma.
Now you know why my fingers were hurting.
A.
Well, since I am growing out a vine currently called Jishi, I am all eyes on this topic! Go for it Ron! :-)
Antonette . . .
I thought your fingers were hurting from typing so much ....lol
THANKS RON,
FOR THE GREAT INFORMATION ABOUT 'KIKYO',
and clearing up the confusion.
Emma
It's good if we can all decide on terms like Kikyo/Jishi and decide on one choice. It won't stop merchants from using the other term but at least it simplifies things when we talk to eachother.
Unless anyone has an objection, I am going to make a note in the Oreheme Plantfiles that says it is basically the same thing as Heian no Kaori....unless someone has noted a difference?
What would this one be called in Romaji? It was actually a very dark blue. Would Romaji terms apply for the double quality and dark blue as opposed to a light blue?
Karen
Gardener2005 traded the seed to me earlier this past summer and said it was from a cross that included an I. youjiro seedling - it amazes me it's so pretty and unusual. It was one of the last to bloom, so right now there are a few green pods ripening in a jar of water/H202 solution. Its stems are still green.
Ok Karen Blue, what a beautiful photo, just a great shot.
It really looks like a double blue Kikyosaki, like in this Plantfile entry but without the picotee white edge.

Absolutely stunning flower and photograph!

is called AWESOME
Emma
Karen - That one is absolutely gorgeous!
OMG Karen that is Spectacular!!! Hoping you get lots of seeds!
Karen-blu : That is a result of a F2 seed resulting from a youjiro x kikyo. I did a large grow out and found some more round and some more kikyo and some were in between. Some were solid, some had more white and some had spokes.
You have a very beautiful flower and the prettiest one I`ve seen.
Karen-05
Interesting cross Karen(05)! Sure made one amazing vine and blooms! Very, very pretty! What colors does the Youjiro cultivar come in?
Blue, Incredibly beautiful, a wonder to behold.
Karen-blue: That one should breed true for the kikyo provided it is crossed with another kikyo or selfed.
That flower came from seed off a single round flower vine with white spokes that was a F1 cross between a blue youjiro and a kikyo. The F1 parent favored the blue youjiro more but you see being a hybrid it threw different variations. It looks like the double kikyo is recessive to the single round flower that was the pod parent. This is what I observed this year.
Karen-05
Great cross, Karen!
This kind of hybridizing can be used to get different colors in a variety such as the kikyo. You can also sometimes loose the characteristecs you desire and have to start over. Here is another youjiro x kikyo that took after the youjiro color but it is also single. It could carry for double but I don`t know yet. It will take more work to get this in a double and I will have to go through about 3 generations of weeding out solid blue flowers and then a few may still come out solid without the white.
See the picture of the kikyo with the youjiro markings? I`m guessing unique traits and markings should be allowed a descriptive name attatched to the variety name such as color blue or blizzard? This could be kikyo youjiro(youjiro means ray white) maybe if it will continue to breed true? Without work it will throw some solids just like the rest of the youjiros, blizzards and Fujis.
Karen
Karen - Your kikyo youjiro is amazing! I never realized that so many generations of growing this out is required to get a vine to come true from seeds! Very nice!

Anyone can do this if they have time. It is a fun hobby and I have really enjoyed this past summer. :)
Karen 05, I really like what you are doing! You have some nice projects in the pipeline! Karen blu's dark blue Kikyo is extaordinary and your white ray kikyo is striking. Thanks for giving us a peek. - Arlan
Karen 05, Love the white pattern on your Kikyo, a real beauty.
In the last hour, I just broke open the pods of http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=4172704 that I got before frost, and there were 13 nice looking open pollinated ones and one awful looking bagged one with mold on top. I scrubbed it with a toothbrush dipped in 9:1 water:H202 solution which did nothing. Then I soaked it and now I don't see the mold.
Karen-05, what do you think about my distributing this seed among both you and those who posted their admiration of this flower for a group grow-out that you would lead so that together we can perhaps stabilize, propagate and disseminate this flower? Or shall I send all the seed to you? I am very short on indoor space here, and I'd like to have someone with a better track record than mine try to germinate this questionable bagged seed. Plus, the vines that came from your Picotee mixture were among the very last ones to bloom here, so someone further south might obtain more seeds, as well as someone with more indoor or greenhouse space.
Thank you for the photo compliments - our DC has soaked up quite a few hissy fits these past few months, so a vibe like this one will do it some good - lol.
Oh! and ps - I grew out 3 vines from Karen-05's mixed picotee seed. Another one had the same kind of yellowy-crunchy looking leaves as this one, and they also appeared smooth and hairless, but with greater magnification, perhaps hairs would appear. It's flower was single, pale powdery blue and picoteed. Unfortunately, my dear, sweet DH mixed this one up with Blue Silk when he was helping me to cut MG stems with pods for indoor ripening one afternoon.
And the 3rd vine to come from those 3 seeds had little single, crimson red flowers with a picotee and leaves that looked slightly fuzzy/velvety and kind of gray-green and the middle lobe was narrow and elongated. The overall growing-habit of this vine was thin and scraggly in a charming way, and as its main trunk wound up and down its 5' stake, side shoots quested sideways with upturned tips, so that the whole business looked like a cross between a Chinese pagoda and a Teutonic Christmas tree. I never saw any pods on that one (from a 5/21-22 sowing, it didn't flower until October), but I did cut a stem that had something on it that seemed most promising to form a seed.
Well, I still have water to change in these jars and pods to depod before mold sets in - will be back later.
Karen-blu
Hi Arlan, Great to see your post!
Karen-blue, Your experience sounds typical of growing experimental hybrids. You get some goodies and some nepheys and humble throw backs from the prehistoric days I suppose? One must endure the sight of some often seen, rather nondescript flowers with the possibility there will be some real knock outs hiding in there blooming maybe on the morning when you too tired to go look. lol!
About the seeds. They are yours. I want you to enjoy them and not worry what you should do with them. I`d recieve them thankfully if you sent any of them to me.
They don`t Have to be grown out in a grow out thread. I don`t want to do another grow out thread but then again I just got through with a season of hard work and I`m rather tired and burnt out on it iykwim? :) ha
After a break through the winter lots of very bright ideas will be happening I`m sure. You can lead the grow out and I`ll be part of the "growers" if you`d like. Or you can just just send some out to me and some to the others who liked it and we all just enjoy growing with no need to post results unless you want to do a thread. It is up to you what you want to do with your seeds. You were the plant Mom so you get first dibs here ok?
Just make sure people know they are hybrids and while they will breed true double kikyo with selfing or crossed with another double kikyo Any that were cross pollinated by bees with another non kikyo such as a large flower variety flower might look totally different. The result will be a medium sized round single flower. Keep that in mind.
I always mention open pollination just in case there are cross pollination issues. After all, you cannot possibly tie all of them! I tested some open pollinated pink flowers(I did not "cross" any of those either) and some about a 1 in 6 occurance came out blue which proves to me cross pollination can and does happen even when the flowers are grown seperately 10-20 feet apart.

Karen (blu) - I would love to grow some out! Keep me in mind if you decide to share with others here! :-) Very, very pretty blooms!
This is Haru Hikari a dazzling light pink JMG with 6 inch blooms. It was interesting watching these grow as flower mutations often occurred.
You have to keep in mind that these JMG flowers grow and behave differently in various zones and not to forget about the planting soil and methods that's used in Japan.
I'm off today and will add more later.
Dee.
I am seriously kicking myself!!! Argh! I knew I shouldn't have planted 2 seeds in a pot!!! Ack!!!
Here is a vine that just bloomed for the first time today. It is the "other" vine in the pot with the President Bush vine. I haven't a clue what it might be. Anyone have an idea? It's very pretty and I will take more photos of future blooms to see what develops.
