Morning Glories 2007 #33
Emma - I'm jealous you're still getting blooms! All my vines (except for Merremia tuberosa) have succumbed to Fall. Nichole
HI Nichole. . .
Yes, still getting a 'few', but that is about it. Most of mine are going to seed. Some that I planted in containers bloom spordically. Also, still getting LOTS of blooms on all of my Hige vines, plus a couple of other Higes that I planted later in the year are just now starting to bloom. The few days cold snap we had a week ago didn't help them. I'm getting my outside building ready now to start moving them inside so they aren't exposed to the cooler temps at night that we have been having.
This will be my second time to have MGs in my building like this, so I'm looking forward to how they will perform.
Emma
I know how you guys feel, mine are pretty much done for also. There has been no time to take photos either. There are two hederacea plants outside that grew on their own not too long ago and they are very short, i"m talking inches. Well, one has a bud and the other has a couple, so tomorrow, I should have a photo..
I like those shibori flowers too. We need to get ready for the coming year... it is going to be something.
A.
Thanks Antoinette,
I could never get a great photo of these blooms. It actually has a Reverse Tube, but you can't tell in in the photo. Let me know if you want seeds and I'll add it to your list -
OR, put it on your 'want list' *ha* anywhere so I don't forget. I only got a couple of pods, unless it decides to start blooming again when I get it to a warmer location.
I don't have a clue what the real name of this MG is. All I know is that it is a Dai Bloom. Maybe Ron or Arlan could help out with the name, or at least what to call it. I'll post photos of the leaves when I can get to them.
Emma
Oh, I didn't know, it kinda reminds me of a shibori... I better go AMEND my list..lol..
I never did say why I mentioned that hederacea, it must be one tough cookie if it germinated, grew, and bloomed this late. I just can't believe it.
Hey guys!
I have been growing it from seed I received a few years ago as "Dai". As I understand it, this really is a Japanese term for cup or the reverse tube flower. If you ever see the term "diazaki" in a name it refers to the reverse tube characteristic of the flower. The color pattern is called flecked and can even produce all purple flowers, but rarely.
I have a lot of seed if there is interest. It has done very well for me and one of my regulars. The leaves are the crepe type, which refers to the texture. These plants have a dark green, crepe cordate (heart shape) leaf with no variegation. The leaf shape is sometimes difficult to recognize because of the wrinkling caused by the crepe gene.
Here is the Journal for one of the plants I grew this year. It produced many seeds. http://davesgarden.com/community/journals/viewentry/125926/
Arlan
OOH Arlan, Mememememe... please save me some. Let me know what i can send you also..
A.
Emma save those two pods, hopefully I'll get em from Arlan..
Arlan, I looked at your photos and I remember when you posted that. Great documentation too.

Antoinette, you got it! We will work something out! Emma, save your seed.... - Arlan
Thanks for the information Arlan.
Oh My!
Your photos are just stunning. Plus, your blooms seemed to have more coloration. The majority of what blooms I did get were almost solid white.
If it is ok, I would also LOVE to have some of your seeds as well since yours have more colors.
Thanks again for the great information.
Emma
Arlan - I too would be very interested in a couple of seeds. I am sending you a d-mail. :-)
The weather has gotten cooler! Awww ... sooo nice! And no rain forecast today! Yay! And several of my vines bloomed this morning!
Here is a new grow-out that I have labeled Hannahabuki. (Please let me know if I have mislabeled any blooms I post! I'm very new to all of these cultivars!)
Lovely color and pattern! I like it! :-)
This vine is smaller, not a long as most of the vines I grow. Is it an I. nil? This is Jishi. Is this what it should look like or is it something else or a cross? Anyone know?
The color on this one is not coming out correctly with my camera. It is more of a deep purple color.

"Rebecca" was loaded with blooms this morning! I love the colors of the blooms! One of my favorite I. purpureas! If I have learned nothing else about I. purpurea ... it is that it needs plenty of space to vine out and lots of support. Next one I grow out (which looks like it might be the seeds marked "Sydney") will have it's container placed against my fence trellis for support!

And my absolute favorite "Yaguruma Blizzard" which just keeps on going. The vine itself looks pretty ragged, but there are blooms on it every day! This bloom looks more of the solid color of it's parent - Youjiro Yagumura. I am still finding a seed pod every so often on it. I wish this had even half as many pods as it did blooms. I'd be a happy camper. This is one I would love to cover an entire area of my fence with! :-)
Nice blooms Becky, your Jishi is a nil. I like your Hannahabuki or whatever it is I have 3 blloms all simalar with 3 differnt names!! Go figure! I have more eBay suprises than I nkow what to do with!! Plum shadow is a beauty!!

Gorgeous blooms Becky, Love everyone's Dai blooms.
Arlan,
I admire the way you document your morning glories. Fantastic! Not to mention the lovely blooms!
Joanne
Gorgeous Beth.
Nice blooms for indoor vines! I am impressed! What is the pink one? (t looks similar to one I am growing that I have labeled Hannahabuki.)
Beth . . . .
SUPER NICE Bloom,
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=4160436
Is this 'HEIAN NO KAORI' ?
I grew this a couple of years ago and got the same Shimmering bloom. Isn't it nice. There is another JMG very similar to 'HEIAN NO KAORI', but I can't think of the name at the moment. Starts with letter "T" maybe?
Ronnie . . .
SUPERB

Becky . . .
INCREDIBLE Blooms,
Love your Jishi
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=4153200
I believe the full name of this one is:
MURASAKI JISHI
also common name is Picotee Double Blue [go figure]. At least, this is how Livingston's Seed Co. labels theirs.
I grew these a couple of years ago and loved them. I need to get back with growing this type MG. The Bloom shape is Platycodon-Type or 'Kikyo'
Yes, 'Plum Shadows' is one of my crosses
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=4153213
You are the first to grow it out and it has remained True.
A REAL BEAUTY TOO!
Emma
Thanks, Emma for the information about Jishi. I had no idea it was labeled Picotee Double Blue by a seed company! HA! Interesting! I really like it because the blooms are so different. Interesting that it is an I. nil.
And I, too, love Plum Shadows! GREAT cross you developed with that one, Emma! :-)
Thank you Becky,
I will look forward to growing it next year, both with seeds from yours and seeds that I have.
Emma
Nice blooms Ronnie! Your "Sugar Plum" looks very similar to Emma's Plum Shadows! Though the rays are much wider on yours. Interesting! Where did you get your seeds?
Thanks Becky! The seeds were an eBay purchase..
I have seen this type:
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=4160436
called Heian no Kaori and Oreheme. I bought mine as Oreheme but I'm not seeing a difference. I think they are the same thing.
Beth
Is Murasaki Jishi a purple platycodon and Ao Jishi a blue platycodon?
Ooops, anwered my own question by looking back at old threads. I guess ao means blue...at least someone said it did back in an old thread.

Very pretty, A! You must be pretty crafty with the ornamental objects for your yard and I loved the patio area! Very nice! :-)
