My series of periods is being reduced to a single period!

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

I often use a series of periods to denote a time of thought and now discover it just appears I'm throwing an un nessacery period in the middle of a word or sentance.
Why don't we get what we type and preview?

That's weird...I do that all the time too...going to try it here as a test and see what happens to mine.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Well, mine worked so I'm not sure why it isn't working for you. Do you have an automatic spell checker or something on your browser, maybe it's correcting things for you.

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Well...it's only happening in coleus forum???

It happened to me the other day, too...

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Not thaat I know of.
I wonder if it's only more that 3...?

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I'll try a few more here....that was four.....five......six, let's see what happens!

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Ah, I can do ...3. It didn't correct thaat.
;)

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Hey Sugar. Thanks for the link. When I do anything over three, it reduces it to three. When I do only three it goes to one. As Brinda was saying, her commas are periods, but you know Brinda. lol. I tried the four commas and they stayed. I haven't noticed them changing. Thanks for the heads up on the post. Six periods......now!

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Well, now I have to try your way ......six periods after space.

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Many over in coleus are having this problem.
;)

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Nope. Still three ...... two spaces, six periods, two spaces.

I have to say, fun trying!

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Looks like I am limited to three and were ain't on the ole coleus forum any more. IT'S DG WIDE 8^O

Columbia, MO(Zone 5b)

I have noticed it too, I think what was happening is that people were putting so many periods in that it was getting annoying. If you use dashes they stay.

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Thanks Tetley------Another way to annoy them all!!

North Augusta, ON

well.......glad to see I am not going insane!! I thought I had been imagining this.....now I hafta count past 3 to make sure I get my 3 periods in......sheesh......

North Augusta, ON

ok.......I put 7 in each sopt up there, some it edited down to one, some 2,----hyphens it is!!!

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

When I read the title of this thread, I wasn't thinking of punctuation.....

I, too, have been noticing this in my posts on the MG forum. What is the proper way to use the 3 or more "."

Here is 3: ...

Here is 4: ....

Here is 5: .....

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Hmm. That sure looks weird with TWO dots---

I left at least four.......

too strange.

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

LOL, C-------about your--------first post--------!

7, 8, 9 hypens

May I try it too as mine look terrible when they become a full stop instead..........as to the title I thought it may be a reference to the seasons

See what I mean!

I dislike that happening! any suggestions?

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

...-...-...-..-....-.....-...-

Morse Code anyone? That's 3.-3.-2.-4.-5.-3.-

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

ROFL!!!! Too funny!

North Augusta, ON

How can we express ourselves in typing if we can't do a string of dots to denote thinking!!!!

Bessemer City, NC(Zone 7b)

I never put a space after the word. Here's a test:

Three...

Four....

Five.....

Six......

Bessemer City, NC(Zone 7b)

Wow, that's just weird, LOL.

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

Dave may have to answer this, but I recall on another forum that a long, long string of periods or dashes throws off the spacing of the specified text area and can put an entire page out of whack. People in that forum were complaining about the page suddenly become too wide to fit on their screens. The culprit that time was someone using endless chains of a punctuation mark of some kind.

Hmmm.

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Yep, it's just not confined to the Coleus Forum! I find that no matter how many I put in, it shows up in preview----but is gone if I go back to read again.

But most annoying to me is when I use a comma and it shows in preview but is gone and a period inserted if I go back to look again.

I can understand if Dave did something to shorten or delete the number of periods inserted as I've seen people using many of them. I'm really more confused about my disappearing commas.

North Augusta, ON

hmmm----but that could happen if we were to write a really long noooo, or something, he shouldn't pick on our periods.

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

I don't know threegardeners, I've seen people use a very long series of periods. And I would think that uses up precious space? Maybe?

North Augusta, ON

maybe, but so would any long strung out word.

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Oh yes, I agree with you. But maybe (?) the period reduction was the easiest thing to start with?

Just speculation on my part ...

North Augusta, ON

maybe, unless Dave pops in to explain, we'll never know----sigh----

Rocky Mount, VA(Zone 7a)

Words get strung out? And here I thought that was only something that happened to flower childs (aka old hippies).

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

I know who is the culprit here- eweed used to fall asleep on his keyboard and throw the entire Nightowls threads off kilter. I bet that Dave put a fix in for a succession of characters to prevent the pages from getting too wide.

Blame Ernie!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

An ellipsis is three periods "..." used to signify the omission of a word or phrase from a direct quote.

Anything more than three periods usually signifies a trailing thought, and it is overused by some posters. I don't know if Dave deliberately changed the way the system recognizes and reacts to multiple periods in a row or not.
