I just realized we haven't seen our speckled houseguests this year...wonder what happened?

I know they're around because someone on the NAFEX (North American Fruit Explorers) list was complaining about them. That was the first I'd heard of that phenomenon!

I remember seeing swarms of them all over the tree trunks in S.F. many years ago--what a sight!

We saw a few last weekend but nothing like previous falls.....

I used to hang apple cores for the swarms of "ladybugs" in our sunny, glassed-in front porch. They loved them. I kinda miss them, though they were a pain when they got in the house.

I could be really wrong here, but I half heard a radio program while working in/out the greenhouse and they were talking about the Japan Lady bugs killing off our own ones and was threatening to destroy them for good, they have different colours from our own species, I think the Wiggly Worm company will send you by post the real old fashioned lady bug larvae so you can place them on your plants where you have attacks of greenfly as they eat hundreds per day before they grow into the adult red/black spot ones. Our local kids school have got the wiggly bins so they can compost all the kitchen waste from the school meals and are doing this for their nature conservation projects and save the planet/environment, the kids seem to love getting interested in all that stuff and the liquid that you pour from the bottom of the wormery is great for the garden feed, it smells though, you cant add cooked food to the wormery. have a great day. Thanks for that info, WeeNel. I'll see if I can find anything else about those ladybug killers. Scary!
