Show us your Bloomers #2

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

It just flew from my fingers to the keyboard. Sometimes, I amaze myself! *smile*

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Cheat???? Well, maybe a bit..... It's all a matter of perspective, Dave! LOL

Candyce - love the progression of your thoughts!! Clever!

Eleanor and Jan - glad you enjoyed seeing some color! There's a lot of pressure here ya know to come up with something new each day for you guys!!!! LOL I'm using that as my excuse to make a daily trip to the plant superstores!!!

No more visits from Sidney.........whew! Butter the Cat makes frequent evening visits to our patio garden and the motion sensor lights pop on. Molly investigates and reports who's visiting.

Here's another shot of a pretty peach hibiscus....

Eleanor, I may have to come down and see that one in person.

this thread is awfully long. if all we have left is Eleanor's pretties, why don't you start a thread for us where we can chat and see your garden and wish we were warm? and don't feel you have to come up with something new every day. we can talk without pics. we've done it before LOL

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Oopps - I think Jan caught Victor's disability to mix up people!! Maybe it's because she has been confused with others so many times she doesn't know who's who!! LOL I think Jan meant Louise instead of Eleanor but I would love taking credit for those lovely blooms!! the other Louise

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Aww, Gee, Eleanor....that's nice! I answer to many names, Jan..... ! I'll start a new thread called "Vicarious winter gardening, or Show Me Da Blooms!" Hope you'll bring plenty of chatter there!!! It's a two-way street you know! I miss all the stuff you guys are doing too!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

LOL!

How funny.
I think that we all would answer ti each other's names. Just like family!!

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Except for Eleanor and Jan, who each would only answer to "gram".

Here we all are. x, C

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

We could really mix up everyone!! the other Gram or the other Louise

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Carrie - thanks for adding the hyperlink! I wasn't sure how to do that. Seeya there!

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I AM there already.... and I need to go to Orlando sometime before Christmas, is that anywhere near you and your living fence?

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

3 and a half hours north of us. Are you going on business or pleasure?

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Ooohhhhh
Carrie gets to go to Florida! How lucky!

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I'm not sure I GET to go - I get to go to the Orlando airport, now that i know I'm nowhere near Louise. My DH wants a particular trombone that goes for I think $4K new, $2k used normally, like on eBay, or $500 in Orlando there's one. And as you probably know (or maybe not), DH works for jetBlue who flies in and out of Orland from Boston all day every day. I was going to have it be a surprise - it would have been a terrific surprise, and I've been secretly funneling money off the checking account to pay for it. BUT he started asking and hinting if it didn't count as an educational expense and couldn't we pay for it with his student loan? I kept dithering and side pedaling. [Aside - I usually get a lot of heat for being so hard to buy presents for. If the neck is scratchy I won't wear it. If the crotch pinches I won't wear it. If it makes me look too fat or too thin or too ugly or too beautiful I won't wear it. if it's too far outside my normal style I won't wear it. If it's too expensive I won't wear it - I'll insist you return it - like a Seiko watch or something whose perceived value is in its brand and not its quality. Like Precious moments or Vera Wang or Franklin Mint Coins. If it's got diamonds in it it better be pretty special - I usually don't wear diamonds, or silver, or white gold. I wear yellow gold. My step-father has me pegged - he gets me a scarf from the Museum of Fine Arts every year and I always wear them! You can see how I got this reputation.] Back to the story --- I start intimating that santa has Ray and Trombone marked on his list and that Ray had better not cry. But, it can't just be ANY trombone, it has to be either a blah or a yadda or a so forth and so on. So I say "how come it's not ok for ME to be fussy about what I get but YOU get to be fussy about what you get?" And then I get a harangue - no other word for it - about how this is going to be an investment and last him the rest of his life. if not now, when, if not him, who, and so forth. So at that point I mention that I have made a down payment on one of the trombones he sent me a link to. OH MY GOD but what if it's not ok? He has to see the trombone and blow the trombone and try the valves of the trombone. I was going to secretly have it sent up here by jetBlue friends and then wrap it and stuff and taDA! on Christmas morning but I guess it's not going to happen that way.... xxx, Carrie

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I get it, Carrie.

I am the same way about gifts as you ... and there are several on my list that are the same.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

LOL, Carrie.....Christmas is indeed quite a process at your house!! Hope your DH likes his trombone!!!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

I find my DW always appreciates a quality vacuum cleaner.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Are you sure, Dave?
Most of us like vacuums, but love glittery things! *twinkle in my eye*

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

No Dave, say it ain't so? My dad did that once and only once, he gave mom a dishwasher, which she needed, but the next Christmas, did he get anything he wanted? Well, a new set of tires is sort of like a new set of golf clubs and a big broom for the garage and book on repairing appliances. It was harsh, effective and the next year was very different. We kids were in hysterics about Dad's reaction. He never gave any practical presents ever again to any of us. I miss him dearly. Mom, going on 93 and is younger in body and mind than me will be coming for Christmas. Patti

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I like gift certificates for any place that sells material for building and filling in a garden. Kids have already asked what I want and that is what I told them. Agway(garden center near by) Lowe's, Home Depot, Sunset Gardens, B & D Lilies, Oakes, Faraway Flowers, ect....
To be honest, I don't need or want much, but plants and supplies are always welcome!!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I know what you mean, Celeste. I never 'want' anything for either my birthday OR the holidays, but when asked, I always say 'gift cards'. That way, when I am in a store bemoaning the fact that I have no money when I see something I want - it's mine!!!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

One year, before my DH was my DH, he said he got my birthday present, and I jokingly said yeah you probably got me tires for my car! Guess what I got for my birthday that year? Tires. He thought he was being so thoughtful. Guess what my son wants for Christmas this year? Snow tires. We're actually buying them today. Of course I'll get him something else, but that is what he asked for. Men.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

People grow potatoes in stacked tires!

Gardening gift certificates always work for me.

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

All I want for Christmas is someone to push the vacuum!! Eleanor

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Eleanor, Best line ever. Me too and something pretty to wear while I watch. Patti

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Patti and Eleanor....LOL! What a good chuckle!

Celeste and Candyce - I, too, like gift certificates. My son always gives me a gift certificate for an hour massage at my chiropractor/massage therapist spa. That's just the BEST! I hoard it until I really need it from planting or weeding gallant soldiers, and then I really enjoy it! Our houses can't hold anything more and I can't really think of anything I want, so book and gardening gift certif's are awesome! My DH also includes some "bull work" credits, as he calls it. That helps too! I think I'll need to cash in a few of those tomorrow with the heavy mulching we have to do. My son also gives us gift certif's to our favorite "gorgonzola salad" spot here. Love that too! Oh, isn't Christmas fun??!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Christmas is THE most fun! Even better than birthdays.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Patti, Rest assured I was joking. Last year I just wrapped myself up in a big red bow.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Victor, I think I might opt for the vacuum cleaner unless it was a really good bow! Patti

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Dave - nothing but a big red bow?? Eleanor

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Sounds like Christmas at your house must have been quite interesting, Dave!!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I think Dave was barely there. Patti

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I did that once - our first Christmas together!!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Only once in a bear suit? Lions and tigers and Bears, Oh My. Patti

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

It was one of those stick-on bows - ouch!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

stick on is better than staples

:)

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

My sister once bought a very large red stocking and was able to fit herself inside.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Good point, Allison!

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

The thing I don't like about gift certificates is: I don't like the $ coming into the equation. Money's been tight for me almost all my life, and it seems like it's getting tighter. I would LOVE xxxxxxx earrings or xxxx gardening book or xxxxx haircut or xxxxx dinner out with DH but if I know how much it costs, my darn brain goes and converts it into tanks of gas or school books DH needs or groceries or bags of dirt I need or something. Or trombones. With a gift certificate, I know that person X was willing to spend 25$ but at Joselle's Italian Spice Emporium, not a trombone store or a gardening store or eBay or I dunno. Throws her face down and pounds her fists on the table. I want everything my way and I don'y know what my way is, OK? Is that a problem? (Sorry I was so late getting here but I thought we were all on Louise's "don't you wish you lived in FL thread".)
xxxxx, Carrie (red in the face from her tantrum.)

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)
