October Bingo Calls Page #6

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Kim isn't on line today evidently. I talked with her last night and she hasn't answered my last dmail. She will be back on and probably love hosting the game.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

BTW, I didn't mean to imply there was any reason Kim woudn't be a capable host, just that I figure somebody new to the game should have a chance to play a few times before hosting...

There's a new thread about organizing next month's game... http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/784811/

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Sorry Ladies, I haven't been online much this weekend. Been finishing up my Mother In Laws doily and started the victorian lady for the Bingo. It looks like I will have it as a prize for November instead of December that way whoever wins it can use it as a Christmas gift if they'd like.
I will host November :) I'll do the best that I can.

Need to read the new thread about organizing :)

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

The beach was wonderful! Beautiful days with gorgeous sunsets! Hated to come back to reality! Just seeing all the plants I CANNOT water is making me ill/sick! But praying hard that we will have drinking water after January! What a mess! BUT we are blessed too, no FIRES!

Can't wait to play in November. I think I will BINGO then..lol
Janet

(Zone 1)

Janet ... My sister was telling me recently about the water situation in Georgia! It's really to the point of being so severe that it is an emergency! I was watching something on CNN a few days ago about it and of course it's been in the newspapers. Last week reports were saying that the state of Georgia could run out of water entirely within 3 months!!

I pray that the government can do something and that you all get some much needed rain soon!

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Congrats to this months winners!

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Janet did you get a sun tan? Glad you had fun.

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

I did get sun, Diane! lol actually got a little too much on my back the second day, but it is all tan now...and yes we need water badly!! I have things that need to be planted, but I am trying hard to wait for God to send the rain! I know He hears us!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Janet, all of us are acutely aware of your water situation and I also pray that our government sends in all necessary resources that Georgia needs until the rains comes down from above.

hickory, NC(Zone 7a)

i dont know about georgia but we are like 5 feet below in our lakes ,saying we are going to #4 restrictions soon

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

It is scarey to be low on water. We are doing well here so far. It is a little low and there were restriction that said we could only water every other day but that is lifted. I hope all who need water will get it soon. Gosh you don't think about running out of water.

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

It is not just Georgia either...here is a quote from an article in the paper not too long ago...

Quoting:
Almost one-third of the Southeast is covered by an "exceptional" drought - the worst drought category. The Atlanta area, with a population of 5 million, is smack in the middle of the affected region, which includes most of Tennessee, Alabama and the northern half of Georgia, as well as parts of North and South Carolina, Kentucky and Virginia.

Perdue said the state is continuing to evaluate the drought response and could call for more restrictions.

"I encourage all Georgians to make their dry lawns and dirty cars a badge of honor," Perdue said. "By making individual conservation efforts, along with reasonable solutions from our federal government, we can collectively help to ensure that our water supply is sufficient."

With a dry winter in the forecast and less than three months of stored water left in Lake Lanier, the north Georgia reservoir that supplies water to about 3 million residents, environmental officials have already ordered restrictions throughout the state.

Georgia officials in September banned virtually all outdoor watering in the northern part of the state, and the governor declared a disaster in more than half of Georgia's 159 counties.

There are many in the same boat...except not just without a paddle...without the WATER!!
It is pretty scary! To think of not having water in your PIPES...something we so often take for granted! I hope this is truly an eye opener for our population, on how important it is to make sure our natural resources are NOT WASTED and not taken for granted, but conserved and used with purpose.

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

My DD lives in Griffin and said they don't water anything. They have had fires close to where she lives. I know she is nervous and wishes it would pour down in buckets.

Thomasville, GA(Zone 8a)

I have been taking baths instead of showers so I can use the water for my plants. We are not a dry as Atlanta but are on water restrictions. If I get a glassof water and don't drink it all I take it out and water a plant. That's pretty bad when you are use to having all the water you want any time. Elaine

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

How do you get the water from the tub to the plants? Just use a bucket? That is a good idea too....I find myself doing the same thing. I also have been doing my dishes by hand rather than wasting the water the dishwasher uses...it uses so much more water! I wish I knew how to use the water from my washing machine, even though it is one of those that uses very little water to wash and rinse...It is very hard to THINK of ways to "save" the water we normally use and take for granted!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

My washing machine just goes out a spout on the outside of the house; having said that, I live out in the country and maybe that would never be allowed within the city limits??

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

My washing machine goes to the yard, too. With my new low water and low soap machine, it works okay for the garden.

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Here in the city us folks can't let the water go in the yard. It would be nice if we could.

North Augusta, ON

Mine goes into the septic system, and I have the big long perennial bed built right along the edge of the weeping bed---same effect I guess--waters the plants.

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Mine used to go in the septic, but I diverted it to the garden....which reminds me! When I was very young I worked in a city dog boarding facility washing down the runs. The business got the sewer drains clogged up so they were just letting the liquid dog $hit flow out into the city street!

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Yuk

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I could have put my laundry water in the septic tank but chose not to. You ought to see how green in the summer all the plants are on that side of the house (LOL)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

LOL! I think Erma Bombeck wrote a book about that... ah, here it is!

http://workinghumor.com/quotes/grass.shtml

The Grass is Always Greener Over the Septic Tank

(Zone 1)

LOL. I remember that Erma Bombeck Book! A number of years ago my husband dug a dry well outside the garage for my washing machine water to flow to. We are in an unincorporated area of the county and don't have city water (we will soon ... they are running it in our neighborhood now). We have always had deep wells and a septic system. I don't remember why but someone from the county came out to inspect something a few years ago and saw the washing water draining out of the garage into the dry well and she said it was not legal ... so hubby had to hook it back up to flow into the septic tank!?!
I don't know why they won't allow it unless it has something to do with the laundry detergent.

Our newspaper today had an article about a small town called Orme, Tennessee that HAS run out of water! A town of 145 residents and three times a week they have two fire trucks that make multiple trips to a town in Alabama to haul 20,000 gallons of water back to the city of Orme! Let me see if I can find a link to the article.

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20071102.wwater02/BNStory/International/home

I just cannot imagine only having use of water for only 3 hours a day!! We sure take things for granted don't we? I sure think the government should start thinking about converting salt water to fresh water. I have heard that it is very, very expensive to do but something really needs to be done. My youngest sister lives in Kennesaw Ga just north of Atlanta and she says it's pretty bad up there ... Lake Lanier and Lake Altoona are drying up fast and those lakes are the water supply for millions of people!

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Scarey isn't it. What in the world do we do if the water runs low everywhere? If it runs low all over than there would be any to haul. That give me the chills to think about.
