I kind worries about DrDon's ranch too have not heard about his area Temecula, CA...

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Has anyone heard from Karen (amarantha00)? She leaves in San Bernardino, when she posted on the hibiscus forum on the 21st she said there were 2 fires that were not too far from her.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

No fires near Temecula. I did an address search and according to that Google map daisyavenue posted, Dr Don is in the clear.

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

So far I think San Bernardino and Temecula are OK, but I just got up and the news conference just started. It's thick with smoke here now - what a change in two hours!

bossier city, LA

My prayers for eveyone.

I'm not sure how far north that Google map keeps track of things, it doesn't seem to have any of the fires that are up closer to LA on it so I think it's just keeping track of the ones around San Diego and I'm not sure if it's tracking as far north as San Bernardino. Karen usually posts every night on the hibiscus forum and she didn't post at all last night so we were worried.

I don't know how they decide to crop those maps. Our town isn't even shown on the SD county fire map, which leaves us somewhat in the dark. We end up trying to trace the bends in the road to see where we should be.

It's very chilly outside, though it's supposed to be in the 90s today - no sun, of course. DH is insisting on working on his veranda project - he took the week off to do it! Actually, it's good to keep his mind busy, too.

Here's a link for updates in the state that might help - http://www.fire.ca.gov/index.php
There are a lot of maps around, but if they're not updated regularly they are useless.

My prayers are with all of us here in So Cal...I live in Wildomar, just north from Temecula. I cant get any info on Fallbrook, I have a client near Pala Mesa Resort that was evacuated yesterday. I cant reach anyone in Fallbrook and the news has said nothing about this area. I can see the orange glow, the smoke is terrible, and there is sooooo much dirt insidethe house! I cleaned up my kitchen counters after dinner, and 1 hour later, they were covered with dirt! I guess I should be grateful I have kitchen counters! God bless our firefighters, I think I'll drop off some cookies at the station near my work. If anyone knows about new developmts in this area please post.

Campobello, SC(Zone 7a)

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you dealing with this and the personnel fighting it. I lived in So Cal until a year ago and was there for the fires 4 years ago and it was an experience I will never forget. Having a hard time comprehending anything worse than that until I look at the images on the news. Everyone please stay safe.

Just talked to drdon. He, Pam and the horses are OK, at least for the time being. I hope they can get these terrible fires under control before more lives are destroyed.

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Lisa, it's very difficult to find details on the Fallbrook area. We live just outside the Fallbrook area and have to listen to 2-3 hours of news to hear about anything even close to us. The web sites are so overloaded. The County 211 web site is worse than useless and they keep directing people there for information. We're not in any danger right now apparently, so we don't want to use the phone.

I see Wildomar on the map, are you on the west side of the 15? The last I heard of the Rice fire (Fallbrook) it was heading toward the De Luz area, but that's a long way from you. No, I haven't heard much about Pala Mesa since it was reported on fire. Best wishes for your friend.

Bless, bless, bless all of our firefighters and police. They are working so hard and such long hours. I think the looters should be shot.

Crossville, TN

I am so worried about my friends in harms way!! I talked to my DGD last night (ezlivin/Amy) She said the smoke and ash was terrible in her area of Imperial Beach. I tried to call DrDon and Pam...but no answer on his cell phone.

I will be glad to make calls too.

Prayers coming for you all. Jo

I was checking the Fallbrook area and came across some forum chatter. Apparently the trailer park near Live Oak Park burned.
I copied this map of the area, Live Oak is near the top and the red star is approx. where Sherry lives so she is a ways south of it, not by far though and things can change very rapidly. Let's hope her home is OK, everyone in that area was evacuated yesterday.
Hope this map works. (you'll have to click it out one notch to see the Live Oak area in the upper part of the map, I couldn't get it to link properly)

This is just a terrible situation right now. We have been glued to the TV for 2 days and it's just getting worse. My DH's and my heart are just hurting for everyone in harms way and for all those people who have lost their homes.

Kathleen, I sure hope you don't have to vacate your home and also wanted to let you know that my DD's home is safe for now. There is a lot of smoke in her area and she is worried about her son (my grandson) as he has asthma and all that smoke is not good for him. She has been keeping all the windows and doors shut up, with the AC going.

Kassia..... Jasperdale, daisyavenue, Spin and several others in our area, are not in harms way at all. Thank you for thinking of us.

Robert, thanks for letting us know about drdon and Pam. Sure wish he would pop in and join us once in awhile. We miss him lots.

Sure hope Sherry is hanging in there too.

Donna

You guys I know they are evacuating Fallbrook as we speak. My gosh I pray our friends will be fine. All you guys in Sandiego are in my heart and prayers. I feel so anxious for you guys. Hope you are safe at home soon. Dawn

Sherry if you can post let us know you are ok. If you need a place to stay, come here we are not near any of the fires.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Just checking in. I don't know too many people from CA on DG since I hang out mostly in Hostas which don't grow so well there, but I sure am thinking of you all and hoping that all in the DG family will come through this safely and with a minimum of damage. Please keep the updates coming if at all possible.

Have been reading all your posts..how very tragic..sending prayers in hopes you are all ok...

All of you in and around these terrible fires are in my thoughts and prayers.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

The San Diego page that I posted isn't working now but you can still see it on the homepage here http://www.signonsandiego.com/

The one for the entire area of So Cal is best through the LA Times site to Google and it is here http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=117631292961056724014.00043d21dedd02f5ae1f7&om=0&ll=33.651208,-118.146973&spn=2.158222,2.230225&z=8

All are frustratingly vague though......

I tried to go to my office up the 405 in Venice today and what is a 20 minute drive normally was going to be over 1 1/2 hours so I just turned around and came home. Mind you there are no fires between Long Beach and Venice so I am thinking it might be a lot of the San Diego evacuees trying to get north.

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Here's a link to the local Fallbrook paper - it is updated occasionally http://www.thevillagenews.com/story.asp?story_ID=26162

Smoke is much worse right now - the air currents are playing games, sometimes on-shore, sometimes off.

At least the birdies are calm and ate their breakfast this morning. :-)

Cross-posted with a bunch of folks. Thanks everyone for all your good wishes. They mean a lot! I'm passing them on to my friends here, too.

Hello to everyone---

My heart goes out to all of you down in San Diego. I am listening to AM radio station KLSD-1360 and they are giving a really informative live radio report. You can also hear it on your PC, as I am now. It is localized to the many small areas around San Diego.

best wishes to you all!!! go_native

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Wow, the news in that Fallbrook newspaper is mind boggling. When they evacuate hospitals you know the danger is pretty high. How sad for everyone in the area.

It is frustrating to not be able to reach out a helping hand right away but I am sure as soon as needs are determined the DG family will be first in line to help in whatever way we can.

For a tiny bit of relief, here's what's going on at our place - http://picasaweb.google.com/breezedale/Fire?authkey=m_T6S83di6A

I was telling my mum about the Duranta the other day, so I threw those in - my sister will show them to her.

Source: http://www.fire.ca.gov/

"Due to extremely high traffic volume, the CAL FIRE Incident Website is not functioning. This temporary page contains the latest information available."

But there is a better map linked there now:
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=0&msid=114250687465160386813.00043d08ac31fe3357571&ie=UTF8&z=9&om=1

Edited to add that the map is only the San Diego area fires- LA, Orange, Riverside and Ventura Counties are not listing any of their fires on that map currently and they all still have many fires.

blessings to everyone in these terrible conditions. My cousin in San Diego (rancho santa fe area) was evacuated 2 days ago with the fires 10 miles away from her.

Couins in Huntington Beach are okay - but the smoke is horrendous.

God do I wish there was something we could all do from out here.

be safe, have a hose on your roofs, call someone if you evacuate for a safety buddy.

kaperc, thanks for the pictures. DH really should be wearing a face dust mask by the looks of that sky and the ash on the blooms, thats what he's breathing in too! Tell him we all said so.

yes, Sue, YES, everyone wear masks. My cousin in Huntington Beach can't do his run even with a mask, the smoke and ash are so bad. Wear masks!

I did, Sue! I had one on while I took the pictures, too. He's in for lunch now at least. These Yorkshiremen are VERY stubborn. grrrr

Hi, All--

So sorry to hear of the scary fires and know that some of our DGers have had to evacuate and are full of uncertainty about what's going on with their homes and communities. I wish all of you in harms way prayers and best of luck.

I have been trying to follow the North County news since my my sister lives in Fallbrook on Flowerwood Lane--her home borders the Golf Club of California which is near Gird and Pala Roads. She was able to get word to my other sister that she had to evacuate but we have no other info (bad cell phone connections, etc.) ( I am sure she is safe, but I am concerned that we are having trouble following the paths of the fires and things can turn uglier in just a few minutes.)

I have tried to log on to some of the websites for information (thanks so much for posting these!) about her area, but have had no luck due to overloaded circuits and all else, too.

So, I was wondering if anyone of you in the Fallbrook area has some idea of where the fires are in relation to her home? And if they are being contained at all. Have the winds died down, and so forth? Thank you for any information you can come up with.

Best to all, t.

the view east from her pool and garden--some of this area is on fire, I think....

Here's a prayer from South Florida for all of you in harms way. When I say I feel for you, it's very sincere. The uncertainty of what's actually happening is so hard when communications break down. It's like waiting for the other shoe to drop (on you).

Here in the south, when waiting for and going through the hurricanes, we say "Hang on Sloopy"! Hope those off-shore winds come in on Saturday as they expect....until then....thoughts and prayers for poor California.
