I have just tonight finished putting away the items we took with us.I am now thinking we should load the trailer once again with these items and just leave them there until (or IF) it ever becomes winter and starts raining. We really love Oregon and Washington, would anyone like to buy a house?
The fire
On the topic of oxygen, has anyone ever used those personal oxygen devices? We have a place in Dolores, CO, and once I got pretty bad altitude sickness, and often I have the low grade headache and effects of the change in elevation when we visit there. I ordered a personal oxygen device (P.O.D.) off of ebay (haven't gotten it yet), but I wondered if anyone else has tried this and if so, there is a product that they recommend. I would think it would be very helpful with all of the poor air quality there from the fires. It wasn't that expensive, about $31 including shipping, supposed to last for 30 - 50 uses.
WCGypsy... maybe you can check with DH's doctor to see if oxygen might help him. Good luck!
Brenda
Thanks, Brenda...that's the plan.....

Hah, there's an ad on TV for portable O2 systems right now! My dad had a service that took care of everything, including the small portable tanks he used when they went out. I think BIL has the same, so I don't know about ones that you buy personally.
BTW, I once had something like a panic attack in CO - we'd gone up to the top of the mountain just to look around as it was snowing too heavily to ski. All of a sudden I could not get a breath, was terrified of the height, etc. Poor DH didn't know what was happening, I just kept saying get me off this mountain. When we got down it was much better, but it still took a while to get over it. I assume it was altitude induced.
I'd not heard of altitude sickness before..interesting...I'll have to check that out. Perhaps that's what I get on tall bridges...lol....my one fear.
Glass elevators do me in. Bridges used to really scare me - I imagine tall ones still would, but I've worked my way through the small ones as long as they are wide enough. Hate mountain roads with no guardrails!
Daisy are you talking about Congestive heart failure?
O2 is very necessary for every thing in the body to function, maybe lack of o2 is the problem with alzheimers. I always fear I will get it because I have had a problem with short term memory for many years and they said Nutrasweet causes that and aluminum in deodorant. I know stuff to make others money is killing us and out butterflies and bees etc. 60 minutes said Bees are a mirrir of what is happening to us, Has anyone read that book, "What they don't want you to know"?
He is a fraud but his busting the FDA and FTC is not. Sorry off topic Sherry.
Exactly, Dawn! My brain had drawn a blank- maybe I am not getting enough oxygen!
I know that when I was having really bad anxiety attacks, I would end up in the emergency room because it felt like asthma but they would put one of those blood/oxygen level monitors on my finger and I'll be darned- I had plenty of oxygen! Just a lot of fear too!
Hooking oxygen tank to DG . . .
LOL........ :-)
It's amazing. I finally took the time to scout out the area since I had to go to Temecula (next town over, where there is actual 'shopping) and due to the random nature of fires, the spottiness, it simply doesn't look that bad. It's not a moonscape. With the burned trees and vegetation cleared out it won't look bad at all because there's still vegetation around and in between the burned areas. No consolation at all to those whose homes were destroyed. I see many, many homes where the vegetation is burned right up to the structure. The fact that the home is still there has to be due mostly to the hard work of the fire fighters. How can we ever thank them enough?
I was a little freaked last night, but I've rationalized to myself that this simply could not happen again this week......can I get a vote here?
This week?! No way, or they wouldn't have let you come home, right?
No. But I'm still leaving our suitcases out as insurance. Kind of like washing your car when you want it to rain. :-)
Wish the darn Santa Anas didn't last so long.
Ky...
It's because the Santa Ana winds are due in again in the next couple of days. If nature was all we had to worry about the odds would be in our favor...but I think with the number of people we have in the mass of civilization here and the percentage who are tweaked in one way or another that the odds are good that there will be those who will rush out with their matches again all excited to start it up again. So it really is bothering me that we could get through this and have to face it over and over again. As soon as they mention the winds on the news and say be prepared in case the fires flare up again, my heart sinks. I don't think I want to live any longer where this is a major possibility. one fire, yes...okay. 2 fires here in 4 years...I don't think so.... And it just seems as though the thought of what was done this time will give even more incentive to the wackos.
Actually, K, I think I'm going to pack the suitcases with some of the things we'd save again and leave them packed and ready to go. I'm thinking I made just put them up on the Cherokee's rack and leave them there permanently...lol...am thinking the same thing about one of the trailers, store stuff in it, ready to roll. We should probably get one of the motorhomes in road-worthy condition and have it stocked and ready to go.
Oh, right, I forgot about the wackos out there--in that case, yeah, it sure couldn't hurt to be ready to run at any time! How stressful!
Just saw on the news that someone has been starting grass fires in Hawaii. :-(
Be careful where you move, Sherry!
Been there, done that..Hawaii is not for me. They'd have to be on the dry side of the island to get a fire going! No, when we leave it will be for the Pacific Northwest...give me rain, lots of rain under cloudy skies above.
that is not comforting to hear about Santa anna's again.
My dh said that at physical thereapy he was talking to a woman who lives in lake Hughes (which for those of you who don't know is a little lake community out in the Angeles National forest), near where the first fires started and they caught a bout 4 fires starting yesterday that were obviously set intentionally but put out fast.
Couldn't wait for santa annas I guess?
Just FYI, ya'll

I was in San Pedro this afternoon and driving over the big bridges back to Long Beach where I could see the whole LA Basin and it is a smoggy mess. I hope that rain runs it out instead of wind.
Omg, I can't believe the psychos in Hawaii are copying ones in CA! I found a news story on it, in case anyone's interested. It's on the big island: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21519774/
K, just for future ref...that bridge that daisyavenue just mentioned....you don't want to go across that one! That one is a real 'white knuckler' for me.
Yeah, I think that's the one my nephew was on when the Northridge quake happened. He wanted a redo!
(typing with one hand - Julie took umbrage this afternoon and whacked my finger)
Thread prob needs a restart.
Good idea...someone please do it as I haven't a clue as how to link it to a new thread...same as linking to an outside site?
Yep, just copy the url, then pos it back here. Helps to name it the same - #2
wc - no shortage of rain here: Come & get all you want!
But there's always the hills & ice - not too much fun, but at least you can choose whether or not to be in it.
Fires don't offer that choice...
Just catching up on this thread haven't been online have been glued to the tv.
Please has any one heard from Weegy?
Yeah, no fires where Weege is, but since we got the on-shores back I think they're getting all of the smoke inland.
We've moved!
