You're in my thoughts all the time, Gyp...your seedlings, too.
The fire
My prayers and thoughts are with all of you through these tough times. May you all fare well through the fires.
Earthquakes LOLOLOL
Missouri has had more notable earthquakes than our last crazy destructible one!
It isn't a matter of fires then mudslides....if we have rain the mudslides happen and if we don't then the fires happen. It is that simple. This is a drought area currently with no rain for the last year plus.
I was live in San Bernardino Co for many many yrs! So, I do know what happen in past....
I move to MO last year....
faeden -- Heard on the news tonight that Petco is also sending pet food and supplies. Once the fires are out, the local shelters will likely need donations too.
Good for them! Hopefully many other pet food organizations and pet stores will step up to bat too. Sure a difference from Katrina, isn't it?
It's hard to believe there are such sicko monsters out there setting some of these fires! Evidently, they aren't thinking about the fires that will consume them in the end...
There was one accused of trying to set a fire in San Bernadino who led a convoy of police on a chase and he was shot and killed.
There are also reports of a guy in the Lake Arrowhead area on a motorbike trying to set fires.
Prayers for these people who have so many relationship issues that they could give one touch that hurts so many. It is disgraceful and not the choice that drives good people.
Thank God you are ok Sherry. I know you are heart sick and I don't blame you after all that work on the nursury. No gel water crystals in the plants ha? It was too hot anyway to make it too long in the heat and all. I just agree that Thank God you and your home are still here.
Maybe it will take a while, but once a gardener always a gardener.
That was a great offer Laura made to come down with her trailor and help, she lives very far away.
My son's been out very early, early this a.m. ands the police blocking the offramp to Fallbrook say that there's slight possibility they may let people in this a.m......I'm going to drive over and sit there and wait and try to get through as soon they'll let anyone through. Need to water!!!!
Sherry
Good luck Sherry. Let us know how you are doing.
Oh....this is just so terrible...that there are jerks out there who would set these fires....Jo
Did anybody hear from Weegy12, Louise ? She posted at the begining of this thread but have not heard from her after that.
If you know anything about her, please let us know. Her friends from AZ are very concerned.
I hope everybody, humans, pets and plants are safe and that this nighmare will be over soon. Be safe and be careful.
I am still praying for everyone. Still glued to CNN. This is just too sad. My heartbreaks for everyone that has suffered loss of loved ones, loss of home and loss of pets. I am just at a loss of words, just full of prayers.

Hello to all our California gardening sisters and brothers and friends. We're thinking about ya'll here on the Mid-South forum and wish you all better days ahead with no wind. We're thinking of you and praying for the best of outcomes for all of you, but know many will have suffered some loss. Stay safe, and do take care.
Elaine
Keeping you guys in my heart!!!!!
Rodica, we're not near the fires so don't worry about us. We've been busy cleaning the aftermath of the winds.
Praying for all that are affected by these horrible fires.
Californians, you are not alone. Me, my family, my church, this DG community and I'm sure the rest of the world are praying for you and your pets' safety.
We're heading home soon.
They just announced that the Rice Canyon fire was definitely started by power lines that were downed or "arced" on Monday morning. Small comfort, but at least nobody is getting satisfaction from their work.
Sherry,Kathleen thank God your houses are fine and you are too! I hope your plants are OK !
Does anyone know if the fires hit El Cajon?
Rodica, are you Romanian?
Praying for all Californians to be safe !
Hugs,
Adina
Good news,Kathleen!Praying for you to have a safe trip back home!Glad they found who will have to pay for all the houses which were destroyed by the fire.

If animals need temp homes, I have a friend lined up with 80 acres up here (she is a rescuer and horse person) and have room myself - I know I've said it before...but again...
Now I've got a horse trailer and another truck with driver ready to roll on down to collect critters for temporary housing. We won't go until asked.
I am glad that a lot of you are OK. Let's hope that the worst is over and you can start rebuliding home an d lives.
Yes Adina. I am from Romania. I came here over 23 years ago from Bucuresti.
Wow,Rodica,so glad to meet you! I hope you and your family are fine!

Hey Guys; I am not near any fires, however I have a lot of friends in Malibu,Topanga Cyn, and surrounding areas. You should also know that the majority of indigenous flora in S.CA requires Fire stratification in order for new seeds to germinate. This is also why the Park Service does controlled burns in Yosemite.
You know,God was smart enough to put all these plants together and out in a somewhat inaccessible location. And He did give man brains to use.He obviously assumed that man would be smart enough not to build multi-million dollar houses (out of wood) in the middle of one of his Fire Plains.
Fires are part of the rythem of life
Yes, they are and the universe is well ordered. People just get in the way of natural events.
And then there are the psychos who start fires on purpose!
Yep, we've got many of them up here. Last summer I got worried because I could smell smoke and there were six fires started in the area in two hours. Idiots. This is why I cannot leave home overnight without someone staying here, but that's another story!
Many people here in San Diego are trying to improve their surroundings to blend with nature but protect themselves as well (in our town a tile roof and automatic sprinklers are mandatory). When we know better, we do better, but tell the couple who lost their 100 year old home that they shouldn't live there! After the last fire here a lot of lessons were learned and things were handled much better. I'm sure the same will happen again. California will burn and crack, those are the facts. We don't always know when or where Mother Nature will do her thing. We can't stop living because of it, no more than those who live in the way of hurricanes, tornadoes, snow storms, wind storms, etc. This was so bad because all the elements were against us at one time. But we do need to take more care with creating defensible space around residential areas. Stop building cheek by jowl!!!
Hey Guys; How do psychos fit into this?? The fires in Malibu were started by Santa Ana winds blowing down power lines.
There were some of the other fires where they either know or strongly suspect it was arson. Malibu might not have been started that way, but there are a lot of other fires out there!
Alot of these fires were arson, proven. And I sure hope they catch these psychos soon. Did you hear that they followed a motorcyclist seen in the Lake Arrowhead area starting fires to a home in Hesperia? They caught that one.
I wonder what their reasoning is. Weve had arsonists here, also . . . torching historic buildings.
You have to think that they are sick in the head, how much satisfaction can one get from watching all those homes burn down to the ground? My heart just breaks for all of those affected.
Good news! They've arrested two more arsonists. Just saw it on MSNBC.
The Rice Canyon fire in North San Diego County was started by downed power lines - or an "arc" on one of the lines - that ignited the grass. This came from the NSDC fire chief this morning - his name is Buchanan.
This is a terrible situation happening in California....I truly hope everyone is staying safe.
Can someone tell me if Murrieta has been evacuated? My aunt lives there and I haven't been able to reach her since she told me I didn't have to worry about her 3 days ago......
Knowing that Ca is in danger of fire doesn't change the desire to live there. I live in a place that has little to offer. In the last 30 years have lived through 3 tornadoes. The last one was a biggy. Still wouldn't go anywhere else. Kaperc is right, Mother Nature will get you wherever you live. All around me, were terrific floods this spring and summer with record breaking rains. Just enjoy each and every day as though it is the last.
