Emma, nice to see you back at least for a minute!!LOL

Our weather here has been rotten, no frost yet but not to many blooms left...My purple solid flake has been holding on though, I love these guys, hoping to cover my entire fence with them next year....

Pretty unknown purple that just showed up!!

Emma & Ronnie - Love all your blooms! Lots of blue and purple this time of year!! So very pretty!

Ronnie - I hear ya! I definitely hope to get some of my Yaguruma Blizzard growing in more places in my yard next year! It's still kicking out the blooms. (And I am still trying to hand pollinate each one! lol) Here in my area of Florida, it isn't getting much cooler yet, mainly just more rain and humidity. It's still in the 80's. Unlike many of you, I am looking forward to some cooler temps. It's miserable here right now!!! But I guess it's good weather for Brugs and Cassia because mine are blooming up a storm right now. Being new to gardening, I am starting to see a pattern (duh?!!!) with how certain plants grow and bloom during the different seasons. It's a whole new world to me and I am just amazed! It's almost enough to make me want to quit my job at the school and go work at a plant nursery just to learn more! LOL!

Ronnie, if I could grow just one, it would be yours.

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Emma and all, I love the blue blizzard and that blue shibori. This morning I could see we had a cooler night. Now is the time I take advantage of the wonderful break from the heat and get some garden chores done. I think I`ll stay outside all day. :)

Emma, the dilute Joyce Cobb I rooted is growing, blooming and has pods already. I`ll send some later and you can try them. I have a few pictures but will share some more later.

Judith if you do you mean the solid purple flake? If I get seeds I will certainly save you some, As long as we stay frost free I may get some..

Not bad for mid October in PA.

Emma - Nice light blue blizzard here
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/EmmaGrace_1192854592_227.jpg
looks like a lighter version of the Ukigumo blizzard that Joseph got here
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=3870422
and that Karen got here
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/gardener2005_1151336284_341.jpg

continued food for thought on what an 'Ukigumo' actually is/produces as per color and pattern...or are the differences just marketing 'errors'...
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=4016809

Ronnie - It looks like the purple one you posted here
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/luvsgrtdanes_1192880508_134.jpg
has a bit of a reversed tube...

Interesting...

Ukigumo is a robins egg blue with blizzard markings,a white throat and broad bright yellow green leaves. My Ukigumo has come back exactly the same for the 3 rd generation. The characteristics I listed can be continued. There is the possibility of hidden genes and the need to weed out "rogues"such as a colored throat, solid blooms or missing patterns. (It doesn`t mean they are" bad" or "not as good" but it means "not conforming" to the look you want to achieve.) Stabilizing characteristics like these is challenging but it can be done. Karen

Does anyone know what this one may be? I bought it as Asagiri...

Except for slight color variation, it looks very close to

MURASAKISHIKIBU

at Yurikos old webpage....

http://lionnet.fc2web.com/JMG/MGsell2.html#tairin

...is the Asagiri supposed to look similar to Pink Tye Dye?

It seems that all of the blizzards, speckled and flaked carry for and produce solids at some point...

BTW Luvs....I looked at your photo in the plant files of Isochidori. It appears to be very purple/blue.

Does your seed packet show more of a turquoise color with a yellowish center?

I haven't grown this one yet and wonder what its true color is.

Thanks!

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

That purple one is pretty.

This is a unclear picture of something I`m going to have to grow again to see if it is real. It is a purple blizzard with lots of variegation on the leaves and you can see it grows straight down. I may have a trailer here. Next year we will see if this is for real and it isn`t from the weedkiller drift or a fluke. Now, back to yardwork. Karen

Ronnie, is this a flake?? Then that's the one I mean! I'd very much appreciate seeds! http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=4103600

I can hardly believe you're getting blooms like that this late. My vines are all done.

All gorgeous!! Luv your purple blizzard, Karen!!! Hope you saved lots of seeds...lol.

Hi Donna, I plan on it! I sure hope this will grow a trailing vine in a hanging basket again. We will see next year!

Karen, to me it looks like a blizzard with some of (Emma's) "frost" genes in there...

Martin

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

I`m unsure if Emma would agree if it is related but it might very well be related. It also is growing straight down and not a climber so it has my attention. I`m thinking it may do well in a hanging basket. Time will tell.

Karen

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Judith this one http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=4103600 wasn't the flake, I don't think I will get seeds from that one, if I have room I can bring it in.

(Zone 7a)

As always, am admiring everyone's entertaining flower pics - many thank yews

For the life of me, I can't see a difference between the picture I'm posting here of Keiryu in our garden this summer, and Emma's pic here - http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/EmmaGrace_1192854592_227.jpg - that Ron says ( http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=4104308 ) looks like "a lighter version of the Ukigumo blizzard that Joseph got".

Is mine really Keiryu? Whatever this incredible beauty is, I sure hope never to be without it. The blue looked kind of turquoise-y to me and was set off nicely by the yellow-ish green leaves - wonderful with dusky, black-toned reds (leaves of canna) and purply maroons (stems of Sedum 'Madronna' (spelling?) (Unfortunately, this was one of the latest to bloom here and not too generous with flowers or seed, which I think can be remedied by giving it more sun next summer.)

(ps - How about someone posting a pic to the PlantFiles page for Ukigumo? - http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/162884/ )

(pps - more thank yews to PamSue who shared this seed of Keiryu from seed she aquired from Japan, and to Critterologist who gave me a pot of the canna last summer - seems like yesterday)

Thanks in advance for helping me out of my muddle here -

Karen - Very pretty!

Ronnie - Whatever it is ....it's gorgeous!!! A really eye-pleasing shade of blue! :-)

Rain again today. Here is a photo of a Fuji no Sora with rain drops. Interestingly, no acid rain spots appeared on it from what I could tell.

This is a Solid Chocolate Silk bloom with water droplets all over it. No discoloration on it either. I guess the upper atmosphere is cleaner now?

I don`t put things in plant files without Ron`s approval and recommendation. Karen

I don't see a lot of difference in the JMG's "murasaki" and "ukigumo"

Thumbnail by ByndeweedBeth
scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

This is the ukigumo, the previous one was the murasaki.

Thumbnail by ByndeweedBeth

My Ukigumo out of a commercial pack was robins egg blue(though this picture does make it look light since it was in bright light) a white throat and yellow/green leaves. The seeds were dark. They also came back true from hand tied pods of seeds.

Thumbnail by gardener2005
scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Did they turn purple-ish by the end of the day? Both of mine start out blue but then shift to purple in the afternoon.

(Zone 7a)

To me, Karen-05's Ukigumo looks even closer to mine - both the flower's type of blue and the leaf's yellow color, shape & texture look identical. Right now, as the flower is closing, the color is pale lavender-pink - don't know if it passed through a purple phase between this morning and just now. I can't tell you what color the seeds were - only had 3 - and current pods have not ripened.

So, if mine is Ukigumo, and since there is no pic for it in PlantFiles - would there be any objection to my posting my pic there?

Karen

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

I would say "go for it"!
I'm not going to post mine at all because I haven't seen enough "Ukigumo" to know if it's right or wrong. Please post all the photos you have of Ukigumos so I can try to find a trend towards what they should look like.
I like the pale blue better than the intense one I got!

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

I`d put my picture in there too if it was ok. Karen

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

Karen05 - The light blue blizzard that you have looks like something worth posting to the Ukigumo entry...

Beth - Are yours starting out as the same light blue that Karen is getting(?) and then turning more purple as the day progresses(?)

How about a leaf comparison(?)...

TTY,...

Ron

(Zone 7a)

Lol - I'm tempted to lead all of us in a mass giddy-yap over to that picture-less PlantFiles page of Ukigumo and contribute all our pics. But! Are Karen-05's and mine true to type and is Beth's within an acceptable variant range of this cultivar's ID limits? I'm with Karen-05 on this one - when in doubt, ask Ron first.

I understand relying on merchant sources - or any source outside that of a taxonomist - has led to some misinformation in PlantFiles already. I wish taxonomy made more sense to me than witchdoctory (kidding - Halloween's coming up - but still ignorant).

Karen-blu

(Zone 7a)

oops - crossed Ron's post in cyberspace - alrighty, will keep mine outa there

(Zone 7a)

But - I still would like to know whether to call mine by the label it came in on: Keiryu, or by the moniker it resembles to me: Ukigumo

thanks

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

Karen-blu - If you post a picture of your Ukigumo so we could all see what it looks like >that(!) would definitely help out in assessing whatever it is that you have...

TTY,...

Ron

(Zone 7a)

Ron, in this post: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=4107166 , I posted the pic of the MG in my garden about which I asked for identification for the reasons given. I never called it Ukigumo.

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Mine color-shifts toward purple by the end of the day. Do the other "Ukigumo"s do that? Did I get sent the right seeds?
