Did you say you're hosting it,Sherry?!?!?!? I'm in! I'll start the food thread!

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Er...well...um....where's drdon?..um...

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Good question Sherry, where's The Man ? It's just not the same without him.

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

I've d-mailed the good doc, since I had another request of him. We'll see if he pops in.

Sherry, I posted on the other thread, but the RSABG sale plant list is available.

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Thanks, K, I looked this a.m. and it said it would be posted by the 20th and wasn't at that time. I need to take a good look at that list and see if I can talk myself out of going. If there are only a small number of each of the plants I want and the members get in 3 hours early...do I want to spend $60 for a family membership just to get in early. I did at Cabrillo, but there it was only $30 for membership. I hate to go and go in at 11 and find that the plants I want are already gone after driving up to Claremont which is not my favorite drive anyway. Far as I can tell, there's no ocean up there......
We spent the day at Idyllwild, which also has no ocean, but at least does have mountains. I'd also kinda promised myself to get everything in pots planted before bringing home more and it's once again rather hot for transplanting. I'm watching 'your' loquat (the big one) and waiting to see that it's putting out some new growth. The smaller one is fine. I know you're anxious to not be responsible for Roger, I'd feel the same way.
I'm programmed for propagating and sharing, not hosting...Don's set the bar way too high...but I AM figuring up already what's going to be on my trade list. The aristolochia and telosma should be fun, though they require temps no lower than 30 degrees (or possibly quite protected). The telosma is supposed to be very fragrant and the aristolochia has that cool "What is THAT?" charisma about it. The aristolochias also are host to the swallowtails. I got a small Harbor Freight greenhouse put up this week for the seedlings to winter in and a few other plants that require greenhouse conditions.
Gotta go check that RSABG sale list......

hiya guys,

Yes, as soon as this wind calms down we'll get to chatting up the next RU to be held here if we escape the thorough thrashing many of us are getting right now from the dreaded Santa Ana/ Santana/ Devil's Breath.

We clocked winds yesterday here at over 75mph.

I miss all of you guys and hope to get more involved in posting once we've gotten more calm around here.

best to all,
don

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Hi ya Don, glad to hear that you and Pam are safe at the moment. The winds seem to have calmed down this morning up here in my area, so I hope they are in your area also.

We miss you, hope to hear from you again soon.

Donna

Getting my traveling shoes repaired!!! LOL Jo

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Don are you guys fire safe completely? Have you heard from Sherry? We are waiting to hear from her since there seems to be no recent info since she evacuated. You are near this crap too. I will pray for yall whether or not you think you need it. lol Don't get all over me for that either, intentions count her mr.

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

We are fine for our two houses in Orange County; just got back from being there.

My daughter in Chino was two miles from a fire which is contained now and my daughter in San Diego is not near harm.

But, wow, I got up at 4:30 AM this morning and it was 85 degrees and so much smell of smoke in the air. The pool was full of garbage and plugged up; I turned it off and called the pool guy. He will come over and clean everything out and get it going again.

The winds broke off a pluminaria and has a hibiscus tree form laying over on the ground. how sad.

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Arlene, glad you and daughter are OK. I feel so helpless up here not being able to do anything to help. Would that some of our rain could fall on your area. I hope the rest of our DG'rs in the midst of this disaster will fare well too, well actually everyone.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

good Arlene, glad to hear that, I wish I knew how Sherry is doing? Send rain prayers, rain dances, whatever... spit in the east wind for us Oregonians.

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

The majority of us have homes that will probably never be in danger of burning. Mostly we are plagued by the mess it makes - high winds tearing up our gardens as well as pulling out established trees, ash from the fires carried into our pools, covering our cars, and everything else ~ having to breathe that nasty air. Just power washed both houses before this occurred - a waste of my energy. LOL Will just be doing it all over. But that is nothing compared to having to re-build a house. We are blessed.

On Tue we were still expecting 2 more days of high winds so I had to walk away from my bent over hibiscus ~ won't be back until Mid November soit may not make it. It needs major staking. Too bad cause it is a very beautiful one - Powder Puff. At least I have a picture to remember it by.

Well my seedlings didn't get toasted and are still okay so I'll still have them for the Roundup....got home last night and watered. I'm also thinking of sowing a bunch of pandorea...dark pink form, thanks to the people down the road who planted them all along their fence and they've now got seed pods.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

That is an answered prayer for you girl. Man, what a close call.

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Yes,once you realize that it really can happen to you then you make sure that you're even better prepared for the next time.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

I bet, we all have done some list making. I had all the movies of my kids in a suitcase for years so I am ready, but somehow, we changed things around and I can not find it but your fire thing made me try to and I will find it.

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Yep, that's what happens, Dawn. We make plans, then life happens and we let them slide. My bottled water supply had dwindled, too.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

We were just saying that we need to restock water for emergency and keep them in our cargo container so they will be safe. We said this when we had a tornado (which never happened , ever here)a few months ago but have not done it. We have an electric pump on our well, no power, no water. duh. Do it Dawn, do it!

Okay - I just found this thread! Did I miss a roundup? I hope not, I want to meet everyone! - Karen

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Hello Karen,

Welcome to our crazy CA group. :-)) You subscribed to DG just before we had the last RU, so you weren't aware of all the fun you were missing.

We usually have our CA RU in the late Spring. Last year it was in May and the weather was perfect. We usually start a RU thread several months ahead of time, so keep an eye on this forum in the early spring.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask, ok? I look forward to meeting you in the future.

Donna

McMinnville, TN(Zone 7a)

Yeah! I can't wait! - Karen

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Well....it was just to get you all thinking about it a little early! And so you could think about whether or not you want any of these vines.
I mean, I have like 60 seedlings of each..lol...Also sowing podranea. Also sowing some of the other aristolochias though it's getting to be a bit cool for that, we'll see. Have to see what else I have in my bags of seeds that might be a bit unusual.....It's never too early to think about Roundup!

Just so you'll know...I no longer buy or eat Hershey's Chocolate....but I can sure go to town with the other brands...LOL

Actually, I have now lost 17 pounds!!

(for our new comers explaination: Jo is a confirmed Chocloholic.....and always goes for the chocolate things like a bee to honey. )Jo

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Okay,Jo, how did you lose 17 pounds by eating the other brands? This must be some kind of miraculous secert that I haven't heard about!

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I'd like to know the secret too--I eat lots of other chocolate brands other than Hershey and all I've done is gain weight! I even eat the dark chocolate that's supposed to be good for you.

Crossville, TN

LOL....I guess I was a wee bit misleading on the chocolates....I have cut them out except for a treat when I have lost another pound....

I am on the South Beach Diet...have been for almost a month. After I came back from my last trip back East...and attending the KY RU....I looked at my pictures of the 30 pounds I have been carrying since quitting smoking and thought..."I MUST loose some of this NOW!!..
as to the chocolates...Hershey's has announced that it closing down some of it's plants...cutting out thousands of American workers jobs....and movinig the plants to MEXICO....NO FAIR!! So...I am now a Nestle's user. Jo

PS...I lost another pound today!

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

South Beach and low-carb are the way to go for me, but I keep eating all of this stuff 'cause I know I won't be able to when I go back to low carbing. Rather self-defeating. I'm pretty sick of the companies all moving out of the country, so I will not use another Hershey product from now on. We should start a campaign.
Good for you, Jo. Maybe you're my inspiration to start again, right now. Of course, I can say that now because I just had a slice of carrot cake and I'm full. I'd lost 35 pounds and felt great and then my Mom died and everything kinda fell apart and I couldn't focus on what I was or was not eating. I also know 2 people well who've told me that all of their arthritis disappeared when they quit eating sugar. This should be enough motivation, huh?

Crossville, TN

We have a lot of support over in the Healthy Living Fourm.

I have gone off of one blood pressure pill so far...plus my little pill for depression....Shoot...I may find that nice old gentleman that has an RV and enough money to buy gas for it yet!! LOL

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Shoot, we'll have to rename you, start calling you 'Sexy Jo'...

Crossville, TN

No....that name is too hard to live up to!! LOL Jo

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Yeah, I know....image is everything....

Jo - check out Snopes Urban Legend about Hershey. All the Hershey chocolate you might want to buy is still being made in USA. Harold

Harold...I'm sure there is enough for me...but what about all the Americans that ARE loosing their jobs to this? No Hershey's for me. I will STILL accept Godiva though...should anyone be so inclined!! LOL Jo

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

I think if I can make a choice between products of something that is made in our country versus the companies that have left the U.S., I'll try to choose those made in America. Especially with companies that were here and choose to leave. If someone knows of such a list of companies, I'd like to know where to find it.

Crossville, TN

....me too! Jo

Campbell Soups is trying to dump Godiva and Hershey is a prime potential buyer . LOL. Harold

Crossville, TN

WEll....what can you tell me to ruin my day about Russell Stover? LOL Jo
