I bought DH a Ryobi weed wacker a few years ago as you can buy different attachments for it. We bought a small rototiller attachment and it works great. Like pirl said.......it does bounce from time to time and you should wear protective clothing.
Here's the link:http://www.ryobitools.com/products
you can buy the weed wacker and add these piece as you go....... edger attachment, blower, pruner, cultivator, ect..
Weatherman 4
Misty, humid, very still and 63 degrees here on the mid-Cape. Going up to 69.
I've got a bunch of perennials to put in--good day for it. Except I've got too many and have to dig a new bed!
BTW, are those time-settings under all your signatures true? For instance, were you really up at 2:12 am this morning, pirl? Wow. I am a slug-a-bed for sure (which in the context of gardening is a really yucky image.)
The terrace is HUGE n- probably three city lots big - but I can't turn it all into a garden (yet!). There will be 4 gardens around the fountain (or one large one divided with paths). The circumference around the fountain is aproximately 76 feet and the width of the gardens will be 10 so, probably 600 square feet of garden there, Then another garden - say 12 feet by 5 feet for the orange daylilies and for some plants for butterflies, and then the shade garden for the hosta, etc - is probably 120 square feet. (these are just guesses - I am in my office)
I will get DH to scan the design for the fountain gardens after his midterms are over. Then I will post the design and you can see what I am trying to do.
Emily - maybe it's a computer glitch. I was up at 5 AM.
A photo would help, Seandor. I'll wait patiently and work outside in the meantime.
Well - DH midterm was today - so maybe tonight he can scan the design :-) I have to redo the north garden details . . . basically, I have a "dream garden" which requires buying some plants. And I have the "garden I can do now" 'cause I have the seeds for the plants, or I plants I can divide.

It is a beautiful sunny day here with a high of 64 and the tree's are alive with color!
Wait, a weed-whacker can turn into a tiller? This I gotta check out. Two years ago DH was weed-whacking the patio and a stone flew up and whacked the slider window... We have yet to replace it. We're down to one leaky thin pane of glass.
What a warm day here today!! It's now 70 degrees......I was away all morning and didn't take a walk until 2:30 this afternoon, but it was just gorgeous with peak color. I LOVE not having to turn on the heat at night!!!
True, but it doesn't feel like Fall!
Victor - confusing weather, huh?? I'm dressed like it's fall and stupidly complaining that I'm too warm, and at the same time I'm thrilled to save the oil! Go figure! At least it LOOKS LIKE fall here........any color there where you are yet???? Maybe the temp change will bring some color for you!!
There is some but we're nowhere near peak yet.
Only about 10% near me have started to change color, the predictions are it wont last long this year (here).
I expect the rain tomorrow will bring everything down and that will be IT here! It started off slowly and the color was subtle, but today it is quite colorful. I gathered some pretty leaves on our walk and will try my hand at waxing them, as we discussed in an earlier thread!
67 with rain predicted - heavy thunderstorms with heavy rains later today.
Neutral gray here, small rain pockets to the South, Baro 29.64 and dropping.
66 with a very dark overcast. Supposed to rain in the PM.
I'm heading out now though the ground will be damp. At least it will be quiet out there with no mowers, blowers and edgers from local landscapers and the little local "sweethearts" can go have their screaming contests in school! I love little kids at play but find no joy in endless screaming to see who can scream the loudest and longest.
The 5 PM news said Northern State Parkway is now closed in both directions due to flooding. We've had a gloomy day with some rain but no downpours . . . yet.
Wow - we've only received a little rain. I want more! Transplanted three large (6-7 feet high) Viburnum today. Wasn't easy.
We're getting a lot more rain now.
It is tough to plant very large shrubs!
muggy and damp - scattered showers.
It got nasty for awhile there but it has tapered down now, got enough rain for the weekend.
Those big ones are a lot of work but you got them in 'under the wire'.
wow - that was a LOT of rain - i wish i had one of those rain gauges to measure how much we got!
but now i am depressed - i had a ticket for a concert in West Hartford tonight, and when i left the rain was SO bad i could see nothing - like being in a car wash. i drove thru 2 very flooded areas (one i thought would swamp my car) before getting to 15 and deciding - there is NO way i can make an hour long drive in this.
So now i'm stuck at home alone on friday night, missing a show i really wanted to see, AND i'm out $28. (which is a lot of $ for me)
Can you give it another try even if you arrive a bit late?
no, it started at 7:30 an hour away from here.
Sorry. That must be a big disappointment.
Whoa, it's VERY windy tonight--sustained winds at 35 mph as a cold front moves in. Exciting and noisy outside. I just know my dahlias are all going to be lying down tomorrow. . . not to mention the leaves.
and suddenly - it is pouring again!
It's been pouring off and on since 2pm this afternoon - I bet we get at least an inch of rain - which is great, but the rain is pounding my mums. Currently at 11:43 pm it is still 70 degrees in Springfield. dew point is 69 degrees, expected low is 63 degrees. Not too bad for the 3rd week in October. :-)
Too dark to see how wet it is outside but the forecast has changed. Amazing how it goes from a prediction of a great sunny day to overcast/showers. Now 62 and going to the low 70's.
And we have a very tropical-feeling 55°. It's just barely overcast at the moment, with no breeze. That's good, as the winds and rain kinda blew a lot of the leaves off the trees last night. I was sleeping, but it looks like a lot of hard rain fell during the overnight. Big puddles everywhere in my yard.
It's supposed to still be very tropical and warm today, with the highs reaching into the 70° range, with some breaks of sunshine. Break out the swim suits!!
All birdbaths are overflowing so we must have had a good rainfall.
LOL ~
Must have!!
Victor ~ did you get any rain? ☺
Yes! Loads - about 3 1/2 glorious inches. Great timing since I moved those large shrubs yesterday.
How do you do the smiley, Candyce?
Cool - thanks. I guess you can't do the yellow smiley things, can you?
Try alt+keypad #1 ☺
testing 1..2....3... Waaaaah! I don't have a keypad!!! Alt + 1 won't do it, neither will alt + f1 . I guess I'll have to do it Candyce's way. :>(
