How fun! Hawaii in February ~ beware. That time of year and you will want to stay. Hope you enjoy the visit!
The Bittersweet blooms of Fall Part II
Pretty blooms BB ~ have you had no frost either? Tell me what the black berries bush is?
Thanks Pod! No frost yet. I never thought that I'd have so many first timers in November and December! That bush is an Indian Hawthorn.
Wow It look like spring over your way.
Bronc.....You must not be having the near freeze temps we are having yet....??
Wow, Bronc.......what beauties for this time of the year. How in the world did alyssum every make it through the summer heat? Mine folds about April.
Sheila, the lowest it's gotten so far is about 34 degrees.
Gessie, they do well from March thru June, then they look a bit ragged in July and August, but I shear off all the dead blooms and they come back like crazy in late September. Every year they do better for longer periods of time.
Thanks so much for telling me. I just get rid of mine. I like to use alyssum around the edges of a lot of pots, etc. Next spring I am going to cut them back just ike you said and maybe even cut them again in August to get ready for cooler weather.
Your yard and flowers are awesome TJ! I just saw this thread a few days ago, and felt I needed to read through it before I went blasting in with pics and stuf, lol.
I do love alyssum .. It dies back in about June though.
One flower that goes well all spring and summer is forget-me-nots. I sprinkled a row of seeds in back and they are still blooming now..
There are still quite a few things with blooms in the back gardens. This week is going to probably keep them going too.
Still blooming:
Buddleia Sungold1 big Cuphea (cigar plant)
2 more Cupheas (batface & tiny mice)
Salvia Splendens 2 kinds
Salvia greggii
B & B Salvia
Forget-me-nots
Rudbeckia
Ageratum
Obedient plant
An occasional Morning glory or 2
I'm sure I missed something...
The back yard is shielded from the north winds and it faces south, so its always a few degrees warmer back there. I will cover what I can, and leave the rest to the Creator's good hands.. Some of the plants I have require dormancy and colder temps, so I do hope the winter will be long enough for them.

Wow! that is neat Sylvia.
Wow! you guys have some gorgeous flowers going.
Hello Pod and LouC.
Wow, this is a terrific thread. Thanks for the invitation, LouC. What an exhibition of plants y'all have! Blue Eyes, the Hibiscus acetosella was so beautiful that I ordered seeds from Onaleeseeds this very night! So many wonderful Salvias (a favorite of mine) on your thread. And that Mexican Flame Vine is to die for. I looked for seeds --ooh sad, sold out!
Do you good Texans care if I dance in and out of your place?
Martha
Hi Martha ~ glad to have you! There you go keeping those late night hours again ~ lol
If you have some time, you might want to tour the first one too... http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/775118/#new
But be forewarned, you will be shopping for a larger piece of land next! 8 )
Sylvia, your Flame vine is georgeous! I don't think mine had enough sun where I had it. Please save me some seeds from that beauty!
You guys notice I haven’t been posting pics.....I have very little still blooming here. Those cold winds from the panhandle have started coming into west Fort Worth lately. I have a few things hanging on with a bloom or two, but nothing like y'all are posting.
DH did take this pic this weekend of an American Lady??? ….Deb?? The Indigo Spires and Mexican Milkweed is still doing it’s thing though.
Cool shot of the butterfly and a pretty blue bloom too!
I am the same with the blooms winding down. Tuesday am we saw a freeze and the crinum foliage has turned to mush so unless plants are protected, I am done.
pod ~ who is looking forward to spring...
Martha, forgot to mention we came out of a five year drought this last spring and early summer. Many here know how that is and are very knowledgable and can help you with what to plant that doesn't need water. Welcome to Texas
Christi
WOW!! Spectacular blooms everyone! I can't believe there's only 17 days left 'til winter begins and we still have all these blooms! Part of me is glad that there hasn't been a freeze yet, but the other part is saying just do it already! We're in limbo!
I posted my rose in the Rose Forum and ZuZu identified it as First Prize. I feel like I've won something!
Deb, this great thread was started by Pod. I just started the part II.
Well thanks TJ and pod!! Great idea for a thread. Two reasons: We can remember the last little bits of blooms.......... And we can see what lasts this long here in these parts of Texas..

Right you are, Deb! You gotta love the red yucca! It's easy, dependable, xeric, evergreen, hummers love it, and propagates easily. I've got babies so I'll have some for trade next year.
Who'd a thunk! In December, no less. Shows what rain can do in the spring and summer to put down deep roots. Warm days don't hurt anything either. We still have not had a frost at my house. Surprised you have,TJ. Looking at yellow rose right now. Opened this morning and there are still buds. Deb, how did you get a collage onto to DG?
We've had a light frost or 2 but no freeze, yet.
