In the tradition of Coffee and Daily Musings, I would like to try this thread as a place to talk about anything - garden - related or not. I've often had trouble figuring where to put certain posts so hopefully this will serve as a catch-all.
Went to CT for two days looking for color. If green counts, I saw a lot! It looked to be a week to ten days early.
Still on my backup computer in the basement. Hate it. Will not be posting as much as usual until I repair / replace my notebook.
Water Cooler
Ugh...the basement...if mine were in the basement I'd have to wear rubber boots while typing!!!
And nothing else?!! I've heard of those casual people.
**blush** busted....
So the boots would be to prevent pruning then!
Will Robin, Chris, Diane and the weather guy on Good Morning America hang out here?
Do they do a water cooler thing? I don't watch any of those morning shows.
Yeah. Complete with fake bubbling water visuals.
I didn't think people were allowed to dress in the morning without watching "Today" or GMA.
Maybe you don't.
Correct - being a stay at home, clothes are optional. Makes things interesting at the bus stop.
I took this quiz and came in as a yankee(without 10 cats)LOL
http://www.angelfire.com/ak2/intelligencerreport/yankee_dixie_quiz.html
Nice pic :)
And, did ya notice Sheila from accountings sweater was on backwards?? Do ya think it's the guy from the UPS?
Or the girl from Penn State?
I took the quiz and got this:
60% (Dixie). Barely into the Dixie category.
Maybe I live too close to the border???
54% Dixie.
(and trapped in CT)
I was 45% for the record.
I was 50% yankee, just barely they said. I've been living here for 44 years. HUH?
I retook it trying to be Dixie and got 61 - what's up with you 3gardeners?
**shrug**
It's for fun. I take a few quizzes now and then. Turns out I'm not a hottie either.
it's pretty silly - just basing it on pronunciations of certain words. as people move around more, and have more contact with other regions, many regionalisms are disappearing.
now, growing up in St. Louis, my entire family said "ant" for aunt, they drove on highway "Farty-Far," and "warshed" their clothes - sometimes in the "zink." i managed to avoid all those because growing up i tried to be as unlike my family as i could possibly be!
(Though we did live in Missour-ee. NOT Missouruh.)
35% = definitive Yankee
Steinbrenner owes me money!
Maybe you can be the new manager.
That's odd amethys, I always said Missouree until I went to school there. Within hours I said Missouruh and still do :~)
Whats the short form for Missouri? MI?
I think MI is Michigan. MO is Missouri...I think
53% dixie and I am a Canadian LOL
Southern Canada though!
venu - did you go to school in the southern or western part of MO? i think it tends to be more common to pronounce it that way in those areas...
at victor's suggestion, i'll shift my random gardening questions to this thread:
do celosias grow well from seed?
does anyone want any celosia seed?
i just found out where they make them - and boy do i have a LOT! They are "Kimono Red." i don't think i'll grow them again. Cute, but not my thing.
Do mums just keep getting bigger? All the tags on the mums that i see say how far to space them, but not how tall they'll get. A couple of the ones the landlords bought last summer are HUGE now, and splitting into parts. i divided one today - no idea really if you're supposed to, but it seemed to want to divide itself, so what the heck.
i bought a couple cute little (4" pot) daisy-style mums this year. Are they going to be that big? Or is that why you're supposed to pinch them till mid-July, which i didn't hear about doing to the older ones until August when they were budding?
anybody want some mums?
can i move a daylily fan i planted a few weeks ago, which is putting out new growth already? i really wish i hadn't put it there.
can i divide lavender? now or in the spring?
that's all for now - i bet i'll have more!
y'all are nicer than the beginner forums...

Well when we stand near our water cooler at work we normally talk personal stuff....of course we are mostly women in my department LOL I am the youngest girl at work so I get to hear them gripe all about menopause etc.....to be honest they are scaring the crap out of me! LOL
Sounds scary Dawn.
Amy - I have grown celosia from seed. I would think the daylily could be moved again and survive.
Dawn - see the posts on Harper's birthday thread - they fit in with your last few words.
44% yankee...I was born/raised in NE Pa, but was stationed in both California, and North Carolina...hmmm.
Wow - I was 60% Dixie! Please don't tell my NYC friends.
thanks al!
Amy:
I have grownthe yellow "flame" Celosia successfully from seed for several years. This year I tried the red "brain" ones and was disappointed. Back to the others next year. Are the kimono ones a dwarf variety?
I just moved some daylilies two weeks ago. Don't wait too much longer.
The rule I remember about Mums is to pinch until July 4th. It's the only July date I'm able to remember.
Victor:
I think we should have a special forum just to list all the creative forum topics you come up with!
Don
the kimonos are about 8 - 12" tall.
they did nothing all summer, and then suddenly went nuts for a few weeks. Now they are quieting down again, and making a LOT of seeds.
They look red in this pic, but in sunlight, they have a sorta hot pink/fuschia cast to them.
interesting, but not my thing considering my limited space.

Thanks Don!
Help me please: My mind is not a stable mind. I see this ad on TV for peeling potato's, carrotts and apple's.
What adverse effects would your septic system have with this product? Would it not turn into sever sediments or compost?
