CLOSED: UNUSUAL Seeds Swap

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm too sad...my little Shakespeare went into the hospital tonight with serious dehydration, major weight-loss, and a lump his tummy. The doc thinks it's either kidney or liver shut-down. I think I'm going to have to put him down tomorrow. Very sad - but anything to keep him suffering.

We'll see what a night on IV's and a new set of diagnostics have to say in the morning!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Sequee - {{{Hugs}}} I hope Shakespeare is better tomorrow. So sorry!

I had a cat for 19 years. She had kidney failure and they thought she might needed to be put to sleep. I opted for an IV and the treatment prolonged her life for another year. Surprised her vet! She was the best cat I ever had! So you never know ... hang in there!

And .... I lost my beloved Bailey (maltese doggie) of 13 years from heart failure back in August. I miss him terribly. But I know he is no longer suffering.

hey everyone.....dont unsub from this thread. Next summer I'd like to find out how everyones seeds grew...and then maybe we can see pics of each others new unusual plants!!! Does this sound as appealing to you as it does to me?

It works for me.

Sequee-i hope Shakespeare pulls through, it is so hard to lose a loved pet.
Theresa I think leaving the thread going is a great idea. It will be good motivation!

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Sounds like a great idea - I love seeing pictures of my plant babies in someone elses yard and I do love to share my photos with their mommies!

We had to put Shakespeare to sleep. He has advanced cancer and he would have died a slow, painful death on his own. RIP sweet little boy!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Sequee - I knew when you described the symptoms what it might be. Our cat of 10 years was put to sleep back in May of this year for the same thing. It was very hard for us to lose both of our pets within 3 months of each other. No warning signs from either until they got really sick. Such a shock. So hard to lose them and I miss both of them very much. We did get another cat which we love, but she won't take the place of our Lucky. No new dog yet. I visit the Humane Shelter every few weeks, but haven't found a dog that I have connected with like I did our little Bailey boy. Maybe I'm just not ready yet for another dog. {{{hugs to you on your loss}}} It's so hard to lose our beloved pets. Make a mental note to stay away from the pet food section of the grocery store. That area about did me in for several months after we lost both our pets.

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

My dog of 13 yrs. had a tumor and I had to put her down, I'm so sorry for your all's loss, I did get another dog before she went because I knew she wouldn't be around much longer before they found the tumor and now he is just as big of a part of the family as She She was. I still think about her though and see her laying at my feet in the tv room no dog will ever really replace her I could just look at her and she would know what I wanted, she was soo smart! I hate it becaue our pets don't live as long as us.

I'll let you all know how mine turn out maybe I'll have a camera by then :)

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Off to bed for me...

I best not avoid the pet food section of the grocery store...I have 5 other cats and 2 dogs. I know, I know - but I just can't help rescuing the darned things. And it does help with the grieving. The doggies won't let me suffer alone, They're keep close and snuggling up with me. They came with me when I dropped Shakespeare off and came out without him. That's never happened before with any of the animals, so they knew something was up.

Thanks everyone for your sympathy and understanding.

Kalama, WA(Zone 8b)

Sequee,

I am so sorry for your loss.
I've had a number of pets I've lost over the years and know how hard it is. We get so close to them, it's like losing a family member. I know I've grieved as much over losing my beloved pet as I have for a family member. For me there was no difference.

Our kitty Mousey died in my husband's arms four years ago and we all still miss him so! He was one of those old, very wise cats. Now I love Lily, our present kitty, very much, but she's no sage! Hugs for all of you missing pets.-Kath

I'm so jealous! I didn't get mine way over here in NH yet! I live in the middle of nowhere and my mailbox is 2 miles from my house, when I got home and saw everyone's posting I realized that I forgot to get my mail, so..I went down there and not only was it nort there, but there was NO mail at all-ugh! lol

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Well, I get to chime in to say that I also got my seeds today! YAY!

I got many of the ones I wanted and some very interesting plant seeds! Spring can't come quick enough!!! LOL!

I have one question ... I got a "Mystery" packet of seeds from Costa Rica from Melody! It looks like there is 2 different plant seeds in this packet. Melody could you please d-mail me as I need some info! :-)

Marine City, MI(Zone 5a)

becky, did you get the morning glory tree? I cant believe how cute the seeds are!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Theresa - I sent you a d-mail. I didn't get the MG bush/tree seeds, but if they are from Lazlo then I got some from him about a month ago and already have one of the seeds growing in a pot. The seeds remind me of "Cousin It" on the Adam's Family! LOL!

I loved all the seeds I got and can't wait to grow them out and see what these babies look like! So exciting!!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU for doing such a neat swap, Theresa!!!

Y'all sent some very, very cool plant seeds!!!

Nieuwegein, Netherlands(Zone 8a)

I got my seeds today! Never expected to get that many of the ones I wanted!!!
Thanks everyone for sending those wonderful seeds and you Theresa, for hosting this great swap!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Ditto that, Ana!!!

Marine City, MI(Zone 5a)

Im so glad they arrived Ana....I was really worried they would be held up somewhere or worse, not ever arrive.....

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

What do you do when you get your seeds? I find old seed or plant catelogues, then try to find the plants. I cut out the pictures, descriptions, and recommended growing conditions and paste them in a binder, all sorted alphabetically.

However, I think I will redo the entire book, this time sorted by colour, then season, then height. That should making planning gardens easier.

Marine City, MI(Zone 5a)

my hubby made me a nice wooden seed box. I sort the seeds I have/get into categories. The categories are start indoors, sow directly in spring, sow in fall, and veggies.
This year I have quite a few that I will start indoors in trays in our garden window. we do that around mid march so they will be ready to go outdoors by the end of may.
Great question Seandor. It looks like you have an awesome book going.
This is ultra sad.....I had an awesome diagram of the flower beds with names and date I received them and from who. The sad part....lost it all on my computer and didnt have a hard copy. This time Im creating a website to keep them listed....and trying to remember from memory the names of some of my more unusual plants. I have to start over, so I guess I have another project...

hickory, NC(Zone 7a)

i got my seeds today and LOVE THEM ALLLLLLLLLLLLL !!!!!!!!!!!!
lol thxs so much for doing this and cant wait for the 2nd one lol thxs again

Nelson, NH(Zone 5a)

I thought for sure mine would come today : ( Now I am crying! Ana, you live in a different country and yours came first! No fair! If they don't come tomorrow then I will bawl, not just cry-because then I will have to wait until at least Mon! Doesn't it feel strange to have two unusual seed swap links-talking to a lot of the same people. I have to make sure not to repeat myself! lol-Kath

South West, LA(Zone 9a)

I got mine today! Thank you so much! Im getting the next round ready to go!

I am excited to see how all my new seeds will fit into my existing gardens....Well, okay, I do have a few new places for gardens next year -- I admit : My name is Linda and I am a plantaholic!!! -- I believe, in this group, your response in unison should be "Hi, Linda"!!!!!

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)
