STRUMPET!!
HOT OFF THE PRESS! Pictures from 10.06.07 RoundUp
"She looked worn and dejected until her long and lovely fingers typed in the magic letters, and there he was......victorgardener......alone and waiting for her......"
This group novel may be better suited for the scattelogical thread.....
I'm game!
I love this group!!!!!!!!!
Ok, thank god/goddess/whomever, I work in a long term care facility, I just about peed myself after these last few threads...LMAO...
The 'Group' concept can be a central theme in this!
can't wait to read (and write) the first chapter
ok, I can just imagine what our forum will do this coming winter!!!! oh the stories.... next thing you know and we will be on 60 minutes... LOL....
Victorgardener logged on, and suddenly Harper felt her breath grow hot and heavy on the screen, her mouse moving shakily across the desk...." Harper, we'll need more details. Where are you when you chat? Type of computer? "steadying herself against the table, Harper felt a sweet languor steal over her body?" or are you "steadying herself in her adjustable 6-way black leather office chair?" or "steadying herself against the claw-foot oak table, Harper swayed with her laptop across the room to the bed. She had made it up, with crisp, clean, white, lacy sheets after she finished with her Old Group. How could she bring herself to tell them, ever, that she was chatting elsewhere, with a group that was funnier, more talented. better-looking, richer and smarter in the ways that mattered to her, than they could ever hope to be?"
you're good!
"She hunched intently over they keyboard, an eager smile playing across her lips." I cannot type without three times the normal number of typos when I'm this inspired. edited on account of those typos I was telling you about.
"Victorgardener..." we need a picture of you, too, Victor, if this is going to be illustrated. Do we have to make do with your mug shot from when you were first arrested, or do you have something more recent (and decent)? "...Victorgardener found his fingers trembling as they danced over the keys, knowing they two would never dance together, alone. His, yet never truly his, He knew the Other Group would never fully relinquish their hold on her, nor would she be able to utterly put them aside in favor of her new passion. This knowledge stirred his carpal tunnel the way no other chat persona ever had. He knew better than to chat ONLY on forums where he might run into her, yet he found himself scouring her profile, then scowling at himself. Poring over her journal, then pounding out irrelevant new threads, long into the night. Heck, but the woman had a way of searing into his very manhood."

Better check if Harper is okay with this before it takes on a life of its own.
Actually I had been thinking of something like this for the cold months - a collaboration on a garden website themed story. It would be better not to use real people though.
Okey dokey - it wasn't ME who started it, it was just ME who pushed it too far. I do like the idea of this prison inmate having a torrid (within the AcceptableUsePolicy) entanglement with an online person, real or imaginary.... "They each gathered around their individual keyboards, some hunting and pecking for the keys, others tapping out quick fire responses. Soon the group took on a life of its own, ideas and storylines ranging out of control, the paragraphs coming in hot and fast from all over the forum."
Sorry.
Hmmm...I've dabbled in writing here and there...plot twists, foreshadowing...character development...How about clever plant themed names...just throwing this out there:
H. Callis=retired school marm, who always seems to loose her head at the end of the day, sans SunDowning Syndrome, she is a bit baffled, she feels divided, yet rooted, with a flippant, deep eye, diamond dusted cheeks, and loves to wear ruffled blouses, she is tall, and thin, and loves the heat of the day.
H. Montana=A cool, reserved type of gal. Likes the cool morning sun, or the last glimmering light of a sun retreating for the day. She loves her leisure time, spreading her books here and there, laying down, chilling out, relaxing. Nothing seems to bother her, not bugs, especially slugs, she's thick walled, she loves to wear blouses that have a waffled appearance, sometimes with white, or pale yellow edges.
Prof. Lupine=He's regal, tall, stately. Always up, loves the sun, can take the shade if he needs to. Doesn't really like keeping his feet wet, would rather them dry, but he can adapt. Smart fellow, he's had many mistresses though, and has spread his seed all over...his children can be a nuisance.
W. Igela=Was married to Prof. Lupine, they had a torrid and seedy affair prior to being married, it wasn't until afterward, she found he had many trists he wasn't completely up front about. She put on a great show in the first part of their marriage, it was early spring going into summer...then the flush ended, the truth came out, and she met a certain Gal...not sure of her name...damnardia...She gets flustered, her and the Prof seperate, they get back together, she flushes one last time, and then she's done, she kicks him to the curb...She met another one of his "friends"...Petunia...
Petunia=Oh that poor common Petunia, so common, yet all over the place. There isn't a town around she hasn't left her mark in. Colorful and cheery, yet wayward, all at the same time.
I could keep going...but I need to go to bed...I worked last night, and it's almost 1pm.
Egad...where does the time go?
Hmmm....I wonder what Iris and Cynthia are doing, or how the Acers and Salix's are doing down the street...they've been having it tough...poor weather, their yards are all brown, they had an outbreak of ground ivy...the horror of it all.
Have a great day all
Thom
Wasn't Prof Lupine in Harry Potter?
Ohmigosh, Thom. I have tears in my eyes, I am laughing THAT hard!!
Very good Thom! The plant theme is fun. Lots of possibilities.
LOL, LOL, very good Thom. I had thought of the plant names, but not of tying it to their characters. But do we need to know so much about our characters' feet?
LOL!!! You guys are killing me. I am so envious of you all that got to go and share, maybe I can get away next year. Love all the poems, pics and stories. Sounds just wonderful. I will have to be content with the yearly road trip up north with mom and the rest of the family for my big getting out of the house adventure. Glad to hear every one had a great time and thanks so much for sharing all the fun with all the rest of us here at the BEST forum at DG. Cheers to all!
Rah, rah, sis boom bah! Yaaaaay NE!!!!!!!
Gimme an N. Gimme a O. Gimme an R. You get it....
Do I get to do the content analysis afterwards? I mean seriously . . . there might be some academic journal desperate enough to publish the analysis lol :-)
OK with me. What order do the threads appear in when you click "DG"? [Don't know whom to ask...] Alphabetical, no, most recent, no, alphabetical by forum name?
I don't know what order they appear - but I am in a lecture hall where students are writing exams and I tried to google Dave's Garden - and there is another site called - get this - davegarden - talk about taking advantage of someone else's success. . . .
Yes, dave47 started that one.
really?
No - just kidding! Don't you know me by now??!!
I might know you by now, but sometimes it's difficult to see the twinkle in your eye from here.
I hate to tip my hand.
Guess I fell into that one, gullible as usual.
Wow - open the door and the creative juices of this crowd just flow!!! I LOVE the idea of plant characters.....what fun! LOL
Victor - do you camp?
I just returned from a 5-day camping trip in your neck of the woods. We had perfect weather. Whew! Two days later and we'd'a been drowned-out!!!
No - just hike. Camping and my back don't mix well, unfortunately. Where were you?
Yes - where were you? DH and I LOVE camping :-)
Used to camp a lot as a kid.... haven't figured out the wheelchair camping part yet.
We just went to Beaver Pond (Lake Welch) @ Harriman Park. (We did our shopping in Stony Point @ the Stop & Shop.) We had a good time, but it was in spite of the park, not because of them. It's labeled a NYState Park, but it's under the auspices of the Palisades, NOT NY Stae, so there were alot of differences, and their site was... Let's just say, less than "open"! The weather was perfect, though, and our site was peaceful, private, and quiet. We won't go there again. We just didn't want to drive to the Adirondack's, and our favorite park in the Catskill's was booked solid.
If you ever get a chance to go to Mongoup Pond of North South Lake, they are both fabulous.
When we camp we want a private, peaceful, and quiet site. We don't need anything fancy (flush toilets are a nice luxury - but pit toilets will serve). We want a picnic table, a large site surrounded by trees.
What we DO NOT WANT are RVs with generators running, people with tvs on, or camping on what is essentially a grass field.
We do not want to camp at a KOA site, we do not want a swimming pool, etc.
Are the sites you have recommended more like what Dave and I have in mind or more commercial?
Thanks in advance,
Michaela
We are 100% tent campers. Very into private and quiet. You can't totally get away from the RV's, but we do avoid RV parks, or parks with a small tent area. Princess Kathy, my camping bud, insists on flush toilets and a shower room, and we both NEED water, being kayakers.
Lake Lewey (Adirondacks) was nice, because the sites were wooded, and we were lucky enough to have aterfront so we could just push-off and coast into our own site.
Of course for all of them, it's best to pull up the site map and scope out your site. (Not that you can always tell what you're going to get.) We were lucky with Beaver Pond because we had one of only about a dozen that were secluded and woodsy. The others were virtually crammed down each other's throat and we'd have been miserable.
I agree - nothing worse than camping near someone who's listening to the cnned laughter of sitcoms! Best - the sounds of the critters and the lapping of the water against the shore. We were additionally lucky that we didn't book a park for Westchester County for the Columbus weekend - because of the dry conditions, they had a fire ban. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEW!!!

Excellent. DH and I sleep in a tent - but we bring the camper for the convenience of cooking and just in case of downpours!
Sounds like you like the same kind of spots we would like :-)
During the late 1970s, DH was a park ranger at Bowron Lake Provincial Park in British Columbia a great place for those who like to canoe - the trip is about 10 days long (for a leisurely, enjoyable trip). The neat thing is, you park your car in the parking lot, start the trip, and 10 days later, you are back at your car, 'cause the canoe circuit is basically a rectangle of lakes and rivers and short portages.
I am not sure you could kayak the circuit - can you transport tents, food, and other equipment in a kayak?
Michaela
Not realy. In fact, I'm kind of new to it, so I'm happy just to transport ME!!!
Earlier this summer, when we were at Lake Lewey we were caught in a 3 houre torrential downpour. It was totally cool - two gals battling the elements - and winning! Didn't lose the cook tarp and both tents stayed dry. We knew there was a storm a'brewin', so we dug a nice trench from the center edge of the tarp to the treeline, so once the heavy rains hit, we coaxed the flood waters to that end of the tarp and let the water pour into the woods. We did have to contend with a few mini mudslides and fly-pegs washing out, but we i was able to keep up with the tarp waters and do the spotting, and Kathy kept after the pegs. It was a terrific bonding experience ... and boy did we enjoy the wine when things finally settled down a bit. And we were very proud of ourselves when we were able to get a big roaring fire going in the rain.
