Looking forward to your package JoAnn.
Fall 2007 Seed Swap
I mailed my envelope last Thursday so it should turn up any time now:)
Theresa, some of the envelopes are really cute! thanks for the links. I'm tempted to make some and just put the seeds in one of those glassine envelopes inside (well, at least the tiny ones).
Carrie, I just bought 2,000 of those little ziploc baggies online because I found them on sale. I figure I'm going to be doing this for a long time (I hope). and I'm surprised by how many of them I've used this year.
I think I'll be mailing my seeds tomorrow.
I can't believe it's the last week of October already!
grampapa, that's what I did a few years ago. I have enough to last for awhile. And if the seeds are really dry, you don't have to worry about mold. But I also made some of the DG seed envelopes. You have to be steady with the glue though!
Gram, I really don't go anywhere - if I did, I'd surely spend more money than I do on DG! LOL, Carrie
grampapa
Where did you find your ziplocs at? I am sure we can all use them at one time or another.
They do have those coin envelopes at Staples. They have paint pens, too. They deliver free if you buy $50 of stuff.
I like cutting and pasting the paper seed packages. It gives me something to do when DH reads.
What kind of paste, Michaela? Elmer's type?
Na . . . just some cheap glue sticks I bought at Wal-mart :-) (3 for 33 cents.)
I've bought the small ziplock bags at WalMart with the craft/ beading stuff. They're usually on a peg near the bottom of the counter where you don't normally look=)
We're boycotting Walmart I think because they treat their workers so shabbily and 5 of the ten richest people in America are in the Wal-whatever family - I forget if it's Walton or Wallingford or Walrich but we're boycotting it anyway. DH has all the details.
And Michaela, it figures, you're trying to emigrate and the US$ is now only worth 00.73 Canadian $s!
x, carrie
Walton--I work there so it's convenient but I can appreciate your opinion.
I think the exchange rate is being rigged to keep us here. When we moved we took a huge hit - Canadian$ was worth only .66 cents to the US buck. But we thought, eventually when we return to Canada we would make up the difference. Well, guess we won't be returning soon unless we win a lottery!
Thank goodness Americans are so very, very friendly :-)
LOL ok, sorry. Do they treat you badly? Can you afford to buy your uniform? DD#1 and I read a book called Nickled and Dimed this summer that made us never want to buy anything there ever again!
xx, Carrie
Did NOT mean to offend, dmac, sorry if I was misinterpreted. I boycott a lot of things -- and most of them are huge companies (like Walmart) that will never even notice! Pretty silly, when you think about it.
Not really carrie, not if you're not the only one. I do too.
Carrie, I do the same thing. Boycott some companies, I mean. And it's not silly if you believe in your reasons. One of them I boycott just because the owner dumped his wife of 30+ years. Come to think of it, I refused to go to a local doctor here because he did the same thing, so it's not just big companies with me.
Suzy
Do you wear diamonds? I boycott those too.
(Sorry about your Rockies.)
I still buy Polartec because the original owner (Malden Mills) kept on all his employees even after a fire burned down his plant! (As in Malden, Massachusetts)
I've never liked diamonds, so I don't have to boycot them, though I would if I liked them.
Thanks for the sympathy, it was heartbreaking. But at least we got there!
That's really great about Polartech. I knew there was some reason I keep buying it!
Now you know why!! But I think Malden Mills now belongs to someone else. :>(
I never liked diamonds either. I like semiprecious stones, especially the ones that look like stones. Diamonds are sometimes very tough to avoid - they get sprinkled everywhere! I used to wear an engagement ring that was made from one of the stones from my mother's engagement ring, which was made from some of the stones in a pin my great-grandfather gave my great-grandmother. I figured that was ok. I forgot to factor in that my parents had been divorced for years, but now I've been divorced for years too.... so I don't wear that ring.
Not offended at all:) I've got thicker skin than to care that much:lol: I've worked there for 13 years and enjoy my job and my coworkers and my customers (with a few exceptions;) I can afford pants (khaki colored) and the $4 we have to pay for a navy blue polo shirt. I was spending much more ruining regular clothing and having to replace that.
I don't think anyone's reasons for taking a stand on what they believe is silly. I don't get into conversations defending "big picture WalMart"---I like my store and my job situation and my friends/coworkers. I could just be very lucky to be in the store I'm in with the people I'm with, who knows? LOL
PS don't tell my coworkers I like ALL of them....there are a couple I could do without ;)
(mebbe we should get back to seedswapping, tho)
Sorry if I offended.
NO NO NO I feel like I hijacked the thread. Not you.
x, C
I'd say it was equal parts you and me ;) lol
We finally had a cooling off period. It was still in the mid 80's about a week ago and now we're in the 60's and 70's during the day. The low tonight may actually be in the 30's! I have lantana and a plumbago in full bloom out front, they may be through after that drop in temp:)
Yeah, all my coleus, impatiens, etc. finally pooped out after we FINALLY had our first frost last night!!
I bought a coleus this year for the first time. It was in a 4 or 6 inch pot and I added it to a container with some yellow lantana and a purple million bells. I was very surprised to find that the beautiful coleus which was a dark red/burgandy shot up and is now about 1 1/2 to 2 feet tall with pretty little spikes of white and lilac flowers. Pretty much overshadowed and overcrowded the other two but its so gorgeous. Next year I'm putting a couple of them in the front garden.
Anita, is it too late to join? I'd love to join up if possible. Bloomheaven
Glad to have you Bloomheaven.
You can get small plastic baggies at Michaels Craft Store/AC Moore. They also carrie the paint pens.
You folks are sending some real neat seed.
Anita, I'm mailing my seeds today. they are all things that I wintersowed successfully last January.
we had our first frost so I'll be nearing the end of my seed collecting. I've learned a lot this year. it was my first year wintersowing and my first year collecting my own seed. I had a lot of success with my w/s...planted about 300 plants (over half of them perennials or biennials). and a lot of failures, too. so many things didn't germinate. and I think a lot of it was due to drying out.
I'm really looking forward to what I can do this year. and what kinds of seeds I get from swapping :0)
~ jan
I'm almost ready with my seeds. I had some really good luck and some so-so luck myself, but what I realized is that a lot of things tht really, really did well, didn't actually bloom this year because they are perennial. Ergo, no seed from them until next year! But I will have my 10, and soon.
Suzy
Thanks, I'll have my seeds out this week!
can't wait to see what everyone is sending!
Suzy, it's funny. Some of my perennials bloomed already this year for me, but only one plant of each...like they just wanted to show me their blooms. Like I planted 35 aubretia (false rock cress) and one of them had 2 flowers on it. and of 3 potentillas, one of them bloomed like crazy, and the other 2 are just beautiful green plants. there were a couple others, too. very odd.
ooo I can't believe I missed this one!! Drat.
Enjoy all :o)
Robbi
