Here is my Heuschkeliana IML 0904 from the David Liddle order. I can't believe how such tiny little things can have such a strong scent. They smell just like butterscotch!
October blooms
hmm my DS70 is more red than purple.
Congratulations Jen, they are beautiful.

And here is one of my favorites...H. glabra. For years it didn't bloom so I relegated it out to hang from a tree...and now it is all up in the tree and blooms all the time (I never get the flowers at the right time and they are usually too high). You can see how large the umbel is....and the peduncle is about 6" long.
Beautiful blooms everyone!
Carol, I LOVE the H. glabra. I hope mine will some day bloom but if not I still love the leaves on it.
Ann, what is your secret to H. davidcummingii? You gave me a rooted plant and I got 2 unrooted cuttings from another DG member and I can't grow it at all! The only way I can keep it alive is to put it into water and leave it there.
Jen, I just love the H. heuschkeliana. It's another one I have trouble with. Must be those small leaved suckers.

WOW!! I am just too jealous here. Everyone's blooms look wonderful.
Jen, are all of your blooming hoyas your new ones from David Liddle? You are a natural! My heuschkeliana that I have had for three years still isn't blooming, and your bitty little cutting is just too cool. How did you root your David Liddle cuttings? I am curious how everyone roots, and love to experiment a bit with different methods.
Joanne, thanks for showing the flowers from the chlorantha var. tuituilensis. Mine is growing all over one of my wrought iron hoya stands, and I cant wait to have flowers hanging all over it too! I think yours is one of the fist ones that I have seen a picture of. I had no idea that it was so purple! I am excited that one of my hoyas will be a color other than cream, or white.
Carol, could that be the carnosa cv. snowball that everyone was talking about for a while there? I remember the earlier thread having pictures of huge pink balls of flowers like yours, but the leaves looking very much like carnosa?
Ann, I think that you will never be without a bloom now that you are living down in sunny California. I am looking forward to pictures of how you end up using your mylar! I think that the high light reflection may keep you in blooms year round.
Living vicariously through all of your blooms, while preparing to winterize the house, buy snow tires, clean the fire place and chimneys... :(
S
Thanks Lourdes and Joanne.
Sara, no, I've had the DS-70 for a little over a year now I think. This is the first time it has bloomed for me. The heuschkeliana is the only one from the Liddle order blooming. All but 3 plants from the order though are showing new signs of growth, and all are very well-rooted. I always root cuttings in Miracle-Gro with extra perlite mixed in. I'm afraid of trying to root anything other than pothos in water.
Carol, that Glabra bloom is gorgeous. Hope to see that on mine some day!
Beautiful flowers all!
Jen

Carol that red mystery hoya flower looks like red verticillata, at least the flowers do.
Jen...hmmmm...I see what you mean. I think I shall pursue that...will post back on an edit when I find out. Thanks!!!!
Beautiful blooms everyone.
Carol...could your pink flower be pubicalyx 'Bright One'? I have several blooming and they look like that for the most part.
I am ashamed to say that I think my 'mystery flower' is a more advanced stage of H. glabra...not quite certain, but I traced all the vines and ..... just goes to show how different flowers can look at different stages of maturity...verticillata and pubicalyx umbels NEVER get that large (no matter how much beer they drink)...my goof!!!!! I learned something, tho' and that makes it not a mistake but an experiment....right?
Carol
Carol, I was going to ask if wasn't H. glabra as that is what it looked like to me. Didnt get a chance though because as usual there is always something going on around here.
We are having a situation going on here where cats are being found dead on a dialy basis. Sometimes several a day. To make a long story short as I dont want to hijack the thread,I believe it is because of chemical fumes, the vet agrees drifting from the illegal lawn care company set up just behind my property.
Well one of my cats has been exposed and is currently at the vets office with VERY elevated levels of kidney enzymes, not in renal failure at this time thank goodness.
I should know more today once someone gets tot he office around 8 am and hopefully my kitty survived the night, the Dr. felt as though he would recover but with things like this you never know.
This little man (Gizmo) needs some kitty prayers for a speedy and full recovery)
edited for spelling. I typed this very early and was still half asleep. I came home yesterday and laid down around 5pm and slept until 7 this morning. I'm physically exhausted lately between work and all that's been going on. After going back and reading this post I realized there were some words that even I couldn't figure out and I typed them!!!!

Gizmo has my prayers!!!
Jeri
my gosh, I hope you have called the EPA or whomever can get that lawn care place shut down and cleaned up - I would think that the fumes could get indoors too, and you are also breathing them in. you should make a doctors appointment for yourself too just in case...
sending good thoughts out for Gizmo, I know how much he means to you! he will be ok, any cat that is tough enough to eat a cactus should be able to overcome anything!
I'm gonna start a new thread about Gizmo so this one doesn't stray too far from what it was originally started for.
Beautiful blooms everyone, and Joanne your H. tuitles is marvelous..:)

Ann, your Hoya philipines is awesome!! I really enjoy the red and yellow color combination. It really seems like your hoyas are totally loving the California sunshine! I know that you got yourself some mylar - have you had a chance to hang it yet? I am curious as to what your results will be with the high level of reflection.
S
Beautiful blooms, everyone!
Ann - that is one gorgeous picture!!!
Karen
Ann, your photographic abilities are amazing. Gorgeous flower too.
Yes, when you get your mylar up, you MUST post a pic of how you use it.
I got some too and lined a 4 foot aquarium that I am putting some small plants into as soon as it gets colder at night here. I got a shop light for the top and some egg crate grating for the bottom. Should be an interesting experiment for this year.
Marcy
Thanks Sara and Karen!!
No, Sara, I haven't been able to hang my mylar yet. Grading papers ... writing lectures ... barely time to water hoyas (sniff).
:-)
Edited to say, thanks Marcy. I want to see your cool mylar set up too!!!

Ooooo Marcy, I would love to see pictures of your mylar set up too, if you are willing to share them. I absolutely love the ideas that I get from this site, they are invaluable. Sometimes I picture people's descriptions completely wrong though, and would love to see how you all do it.
Thanks,
S
Well, since I haven't got anything in it yet....I was going to wait until I put the plants in it to take a pic. I guess maybe I should just take one with it empty first, huh? With all that mylar in it...when I take the pic, the flash will probably blind me. Ha Ha
HA! Marcy, too funny! I am just imagining the hugely blinding flash explosion that will occur when you take the picture. I wonder if it will show anything other than just a huge light in the picture?
S
Christine, that is a really neat photo! Not only is it a pretty picture, but I really like how you've shown us the difference between bloom colors based on proximity to stronger sunlight. - how very interesting!!!! Thanks.
Ann
