Well,...if the corolla is already in your fridge then you might as well bisect it...
Hoping the pollen tubes made it down to the ovary and it develops a seedpod...

Only the flower fell off, the pistil is still attached to the nectar gland and it looks good (hopefully the pollination took), I'll take a photo of it now and will post it here..

A, I could be wrong but I think DG has a "safety" feature to keep you from duplicating postings. If the text is EXACTLY the same as in a previous post, DG will disregard the second post. Ex: if you place a photo with the text "#2" in the post, you will not be able to send another post with the EXACT SAME TEXT "#2" again, even if the photo attached is different. That has been my experience posting.
oh, that makes sense, I do use numbers on several of the photos I post.
A - The stigma is missing from the top of the pistil but it most likely got fertilized already...
So,the tube is pigmented all the way down to the very bottom...
clip the anthers with a piece of stamen attached >let them dry on a piece of plastic or glass and send them to me...don't leave them in the fridge as there is too much moisture in the air...
The continued nectar production is a good sign as pods that don't take will usually cease nectar production...although not necessarily immediately...
Nice going A -

edited to add: Thanks,
ooh, that's great about it still producing nectar then...
It is drying as I type.
Now, I have to figure out how to mail it to you.

A - Wait until the other flower cycles and send all the anthers at the same time...just put them in something non-absorptive like little glass vials...

Ron
Oh my god, you mean I have to do that again??? well, at least I have a little practice now.... alrighty then.
Once you are sure that you have pollinated the stigma just clip off the anthers using a tweezers or something from the top of the open flower...

Ron,
I'm just teasing, I am really enjoying this...
Just want you to know that there are about 15 or so ants coming in and out of the hole where the pistil is coming out of the pod. And the other bud may be starting to show a little white, not really sure though, in a couple of days, I'll know better.
Antoinette - You are amazing! And that bloom is incredible! Nice going, A!!!!
I don't think I've seen Ron this excited before!!!!! Great job, A! What a great contibution to the horticultural community.
Arlan
Lol .. I can just see him purring "my precious"!
X
Thanks Becky, Arlan, and X,
Hopefully, it will produce some seeds.. and get more blooms., it is young plant, so who knows what a mature one does?? Can you imagine the fragrance with many open at the same time on a large plant? Wow..
Ditto to all above - Gourd, this was such a great experience you've shared - what a flower to get excited over - thanks as well to Ron & X for augmenting educational aspects of this - and to peanut gallery for infusing thread with their enthusiasm
Karen
Well, the second flower bloomed, I saved and mailed the pollen..
Here is the seedpod (today's photo), it is about the size of a tootsie roll lolly pop. And it is not dry yet. lol.. this lady can make you wait, that's for sure.
Karen Blue, thank you, I dont' know why I had not answered this thread, sometimes I think to myself I'll come back and then start doing other things and forget.. my bad.. Thank you agian.
A.
Hi Gourd - Looking good(!)...tootsie roll lolipops come in a couple different sizes
Can we see the seedpod with that nice clear ruler that you have next to it for a definitive size reference...
So glad to see that seedpod forming...
TTY,...
Ron
Alrighty, will take one with the ruler... the round tootsie pops that have the chocolate candy in the center.. ummm..
I've got to say, this pod finally dried last week, so the dry date is April 20th, 2008... It took an awful long time, I was afraid that the birds would take the pod or something might eat it, etc.. I wonder if it is some record for the longest time to pod maturing around?(maybe not, maybe there are more out there).
Anyway, I know Ron would like to know this info and I'll post the photos here. It was very difficult getting good photos because of the sheen on the silk/cotton looking hairs on the seeds themselves, it was/is very shiny. So, I took some on different items to see if it would help.
Ron, I'm keeping two seeds and sending you two seeds. I've already sent all the parasitica seeds and all your other seeds to you months ago. The pod had only 4 seeds, I may just put them in a specimen catalouge just for ID purposes. In case they are ever needed.
there are several photos to follow, first the pod, then the seeds.
