Oh, and she said to water them every day, too, but again, I don't know anything.
I also received an order of carnivorous plants. Pings and a Drosera. Let me go resize the pics real quick and I'll post them. :o)
Edited to add - and a couple Utricularias. They're tiny! You'll see!

Any health news from jannich and about her!!!!!!!! part 2
I love that last one best...........................I didn't have a choice..............all they got in were Vandas.................whatever that is....................I love yours...............i don't have time to read about orchids right now.................can't tell you what I am trying to do on DG on Monday..........because i think they have to approve the Classified ads and I don't know how long that will take..................I don't want to get in trouble before i get started..................
Woo Hoo ... Orchid fanatics! I have about 15 or 16, some with labels still attached, some labels long gone! I need to FEED them tomorrow .... making myself a note right now!I had one of the Paphiopedilum Orchids at one time. Guess I should check to see if it's still one I have out on the deck! You got some nice ones Rain!
and ... Gail - Wow I love those Vanda's you got at Lowes!! Really Beautiful! I know you like purple!
I don't do anything special with my orchids. They love good drainage and bright light and of course lots of humidity! Brightly lit Bathrooms are perfect spots for them. They do like good air circulation too. Mine seem to do better when I hang them out in the trees during the summer. I didn't put them out there this year and I should have.
Thanks, Lin! You're in Florida, so they're easier for you than the rest of us. I'm jealous! :oP LOL Would love to see pictures of yours. Isn't it funny that we're all here on the Gessie board, but we all tend to gravitate toward the same kinds of non-Gessie plants? Interesting, isn't it?
This is Pinguicula esseriana. With any luck, it will turn a bright pinkish color.
thanks for the tips, Lin..................I have never owned one......................all they had were four different shades of purple Vandas.......but , you are right..........I do love purple...........and yellow.................
My son in law grows his in zone 8 in their 3 car garage...............he has gro lights set up for them.................and does real well.............I will have to pick his brain................the garage is totally up against part of the house so it stays pretty warm.........
The lady at Lowe's said that they can survive down to 40 degrees, but i wouldn't push them that hard...........although my son in law does beautifully with his in the winter time........garage and all.............
You have to tell me more about this one............what is it..........haven't heard of that name?????
*************edited to say I missed several pictures.............where in the world did you get those.........near your house or an order..............have to know, Rain!!!!!!!!

keep 'em coming, Rain!!!!!!!!!!! too much fun to be had by all!!!!!!!!!!!
Some day when I have more time and more room I am gonna try one of those "Ping" plants! Too cute!
I ordered the Pings, Drosera, and Utricularias from Cascade Carnivores - http://www.cascadecarnivores.com/ I'm super happy with them! :o)
Oooh I like that P. ignata red leaf on their website!
Rain............................another new site.................goodie goodie!!!!!!
Me, too, Lin! I could have bought one of each of the Pings and been perfectly happy, but I figured I'd show some restraint! LOL I'm really pleased with the plants, so if you decide to order, I'd recommend him wholeheartedly. I'll post a review in the GardenWatchdog soon, too.
Oh - That one you got from Ki is Gorgeous too! Can't wait to see what the flower looks like!
LOL Gail, as if you needed encouragement! ;o)
I can't wait to see it either. I look at it about a hundred times a day! LOL
I'm doing just what Ki told me to do and am having a lot of success. I know nothing, so anything good they are doing is because of what she told me. :o)
Ok ... what did she tell you? hee hee ... save me from research!
Ki always has some 'cool' plants.........................things I have not heard of............let alone know where to go to get them.................
Pot them in half AV mix, half well-washed coarse sand, and flood with rainwater or distilled water every two weeks. (By flood, that means pour water in til it's a little bit below the potting mix surface.) I have to water mine more often than that, but otherwise, that's it. No fertilizer at all, because that will kill them. And I have kept the one she sent me raised up so it's closer to the lights. It turned green, but when I raised it up, it went back to pink.
Yeah, I know, Gail. Ki is the root of a lot of my obsessions! LOL I love the obsessions and her, though! :o)
now................I am not clear............all the plants besides the orchids..............are potted up and treated with no fertilizer.........is that right?
I need to get off this computer.......but i will read your answer tomorrow............great going, Rain...........

Yep. All the carnivorous plants get absolutely no fertilizer at all - ever. And only rainwater or distilled water. We don't get enough rain to collect rainwater, and with the air pollution around here, I'd worry about it being contaminated anyway, so I just use distilled water.
Nite Gail! :o)
Did you see this one? Byblis Liniflora - The Rainbow Plant .... AWESOME!
http://www.cascadecarnivores.com/gallery/byblis/liniflora.htm
I am loving this website Rain .... all of these plants are carnivores?? What do you feed them??
i can't stand to miss anything..............back on again.................have to look at Lin's love plant...............
*******edited to say that i think she said nothing in the way of fertilizer...........????????
This message was edited Sep 28, 2007 9:01 PM
now I am really headed down the hall................
No fertilizer for the Pinguicula Plants! The Orchids Love to be fed!
I did see that one, Lin, but was afraid of it. LOL For this order, I mostly stuck to what I felt comfortable with (the Pings), but branched out a little with the Drosera and Utricularias. They are all Carnivores, I believe. I didn't look at every single plant he has, but with the name of his site, I assume they are. I don't feed mine, but the pink Ping has caught a few fungus gnats on its own. :o)
Woo Hoo .... I need to get a ping! Every once in awhile I see those dratted fungus gnats and wish I had some of those yellow sticky tape thingy's I hear people talking about ... if I had a Ping I wouldn't need any yellow sticky tape! The gnats could be free plant food for the ping! Love it!
See, that's how you justify the purchase... You NEED it! Nice how that works out, isn't it? ;o)
It really is ... free bug killer! and a neat plant to do the job!
LOL Now you're going to be out in the yard catching bugs to bring in... "See honey, we've got all these awful bugs! I know just what to do to get rid of them!" ;o)
We had a little venus fly trap, but it was so much fun to feed that I'm afraid we overfed it, and it perished. :-(
Don't know where I've been... just saw this thread. What's going on with Jannich? Nice nightgown, girlie! lol ; ) This could be a regular pajama party!
