The aboriginal didgeridoo (didjeridu, dijeridu, yidaki) is a long, wooden wind instrument or horn used traditionally by the aboriginal people of Northern Australia. Rock paintings on caves have established that the didgeridoo has been used as a musical instrument for at least 20,000 years. It is made from a tree branch, usually eucalyptus, hollowed out by termites. Branches cut into varying lengths produce instruments with different pitches. The mouthpiece is usually made of beeswax or resin.
The haunting tones of the didgeridoo are created by the vibrating of the player's lips. Since every branch has its own unique shape, no two didgeridoos sound exactly alike. The didgeridoo is almost unique in the world of music in its use of a technique called circular breathing. This allows the player to breathe while producing continuous sound. During this process, the player allows his cheeks to fill with air, like a bellows. Then, in one quick step, the player releases that stored air while quickly inhaling through the nose, refilling the lungs. This breathing technique is often used along with subtle tongue and lip movements and the voice to create energetic rhythmic patterns.
Thats some information i found for you and a pic. Its just a fabulous sound but very hard to play as you must learn circular breathing. this means you must keep the instrument going without a breath so to speak. well you breath but without stopping the sound, its incredibly hard but wonderful if you can master it.
http://aboriginalart.com.au/didgeridoo/songs.html
that is a link you can look up on.
http://www.didgeridoostore.com/soundsrhythms.html
and that link gives you some samples of sounds that can be made on the didge.....
had a day of cleaning today.. a little sore but ok. came home from the DD who's partners house we are renovating and felt a little anxious, probably because its back to work tomorrow. i recieved a letter from the eqaul opportunity council saying they had written to my work asking them to explain their actions... so.... its about to hit the fan! sigh....
never mind, there are worse things and i have people who love me, support me and pray for me so i am blessed.
have a great day and tell me what you think of the digereedoo.. i will post a pick of the one I got.....they are all different...
x
Wow on both counts...hubby's a good looking man..(now I'm assuming it's DH) if not, still good looking..lol...look at the craftsmanship..no wonder you are excited Laura...but, if I recall your post, did he not give you $$$$ to get YOURSELF something special...you are as bad as I..if I have money I'm always more comfortable spending it on others..
As for work, hold your head up high and don't let the boss know she's getting to you...she'll have to answer her part in this!!!!
morning all,
laura is that dh nice looking fellow! thats a cool looking digeereedo it was some interesting reading why is it tabbo for women to touch or play this in some regions? beautiful craftmanship oh boy wishing you lots of luck tomorrow i'll be thinking of you just ignore her i'll say a prayer for you.

Liz, just because you are feeling a little better, please don't overdo..give yourself a few more days...what am I up to today..brought the sewing machine yesterday from sewing room to dining room, so much brighter..keep looking at it and thinking I should work on that sweatshirt, then I look outside at the beautiful day and it's pulling me outside..so, probably will go out and work in gardens most of the day then might get a little sewing in..skunk..yuk..many a mornings I smell it as well, keep hoping that non of the furry creatures get sprayed..if you do go to inlaws, hope you get to bring back more treasures..lol...
FINALLY, FINALLY.....THOUGHT I HAD LOST THIS THREAD FOREVER!!!!!!! YOU ALL RAN OFF AND LEFT ME WHILE I WAS AWAY.......NOW I WILL NEVER CATCH UP, BUT AM TRYING!!!!!
Will post tonight and tell you of my adventures in the northeast.....great time, lots of rest and healthy walks........now reality time, and I must unpack, do laundry, get ready for my daughter's visit, pickup Ethan's books that he left all over the den (they were here when i got home yesterday afternoon, so i got to spend some time with him, but gone home now).......so, I will tell you about my trip tonight, and try to catch up with each of you. I have missed you.
Hugs
shar
*giggle* nooooo thats no my husband!! hahahah it was just a pic of a didgereedoo! sorry I should have made that clearer. *giggle* my Dh is much better looking!!! hehehehe
his didgereedoo is wider at the end, the 'bell' as they call it is bigger. I was talking to the aboriginal man that sold it to me and he said that only in some tribes was it forbidden. because the instrument is considered sacred and in some tiribes women were not considered equal however he said, in the majority if tribes, it is the women who make them and play them! Some of the work i was looking at saturday was amazing, have any of you seen real aboriginal art? Just beautiful.
Yes betty he told me off too. I struggle to spend on myself, I know i should have bought other things but he has wanted one for so long and you should have seen his face!
One more weekend and the DD partners house is finished. we will have our weekends back! its been a long haul.
so off to get ready for work.. say a prayer for me...
xx
Laura, your description could lead one to believe you are talking 'dirty talk' lol..gave me a laugh..amazing here you are starting your Monday and we're setting in on a Sunday night..must post picture now of DH..we're all waiting....
Well this weekend has been very productive...firepit done on Fri..clown costume Sat. and a sweatshirt sweater Sunday..no wonder I get bored at work..lol..but the weather here has been absolutely fantastic..
Just had roast beef dinner, going out to water the flower beds and enjoy another few hours out there and then it's time to settle in...
off I go..one more burnt of energy and Sailor is here nudging me and doing her dance..guess it's time to play ball...
I love that Laura it is a work of art. wow, how sweet too. I wished you were here and I'd take you to my friend's depression meetings she started at her house, they are real positive.
B you are a crafty little Wizzard. Wow I get exhausted thinking of you and your endless energy.
evening all,
well well welcome back shar sounds like you had a wonderful time i look foward to hearing all about your trip hope it was a well rested time
laura, lol.. so now that you will have weekends back your going to make us all envy your garden your in spring now arnt you? so you will have to plant lots of flowers so we can enjoy your spring with you during our winter.
betty, beautiful job on the cardigan im still debating wheather or not i want to remove the ribbing around the colar and sleeves im not sure yet yours is so nice i just might leave it. i know i did behave today i just talked to fil
mil caused this big rucus on how to hose down the table i just started to walk away fil told her to mind her own bussiness and stop giving orders needless to say i got daggers for a hour.
then she asked me if i wanted all thease towels and covers for the bed sets i said ok put them in a garbage bag she insisted i take the 4 chairs and rushed to make new cushion seat covers.
but i had dh to contend with who was huffing and puffing on more s---! and where are you going to put this i just walked away from him and said forget it i dont want nothing just nevermind well guess what made it to the car all but the four chairs lol
then my sister tex messaged me the radiation levels are high once again this time its between my granny. mom, sister and my sisters x mil i guess granny started trouble pointing fingers at everyone and it turned into a jerry springer episode i think im going to buy everyone a checkerboard set!
and with all of that everyone have a great evening liz
You could do a show with your family, I think you should email Dr. Phil, it is easy to do on his site, go for it Liz.
lol
wow!! Liz, I sure missed out on a lot......how you keep your cool, I will never know.
Anyway, my trip......great, wonderful, very restful. New England is beautiful, and with some trees beginning to turn, well, it was unbelievable. My cousin lives in Northhampton, so we visited that area, the universities, Amherst, the art department at Smith.....ate in little out of the way places, excellent food......
We traveled through Connecticut, but did not linger, on our way to Brattleboro, Vermont. I could have stayed there forever, such a lovely place. My cousin is a musician, a pianist....he took the week off since I was there, so we just ambled about during the days, took long walks, ate when we wanted....visited the Sojourner Truth house/memorial.....just little things like that. I slept late every day, no responsibilities and I simply relaxed. He is used to late nights, and he has a great sound system, in the evenings we watched old movies, some in b/w.....we watched old Beatles interviews, and he has 3 climate controlled rooms of records/cd's/old 78's/etc....so we had music playing constantly.
We were very close growing up, but because we did not fit into the family mold of doctors/lawyers/etc we were usually hanging out together at family gatherings. I painted a picture for him while there, and he gave me tons of his cd's.........
so that is about it.
came home to ethan and Alyn, and here is ethan buttering his toast this morning.
Nite all...it's great to be back....I have missed all of you.
lol betty.....
the cardigan is lovely!
well the orchids are blooming tho i didnt get as many due to the drought they are still lovely. must get the cameral out again.
as for posting a pic of hubby, he wouldnt let me... shy and all. lol
sounds good dawn.... groups like that are great.
still no word at work, it hasnt hit the fan yet and waiting for it to is just the pits....
anyway, the working day is over and im here relaxing. having the grandkids for an hour or two tonight whilst mum is at the diet club. im not going cos i have been bad and whilst i know it doesnt help to hide, i just dont need the negativity right now you know? I'll go back next week, its nice not to be worrying about that too. I will go for my walk shortly and keep up.
keep nagging my DD for a pic of my GS as he has changed so much. i want to post one for you all, she is slacker than i am if thats possible! lol
morning all,
shar, i dont know how i do it,i think it stems from the greek innercircle growing up and i broke away (im not trying to insult any greek herritage here its only my family that acts like kooks) it never mattered where we were always pointing fingers on look at that one and who they married why they had money and holding that same grudge for fifty years on who did what to who that drove me nuts and i always said when im 18 thats it im moving away from all of you, i'll call you once a week visit you on hollidays but no more and they all still do it...
they are exausting love them all but i pray for them alot they have no hobbies no friends i feel for my poor cousin jim were close hes a couple years younger still lives at home and gets interogated even when he comes to my house his mom is calling onthe cell phone finding out what were doing he refers to his mom and dad as the greek parliment lol
well sounds like your trip was a wonderful visit i've always wanted to see those states
how nice to send you home with cds im so glad you had this vacation sounds just like what you needed is it my immagination or did ethan get a little taller?
oooppps

Happy Birthday Vicki...
http://www.jacquielawson.com/viewcardm.asp?code=1260891723461&ob=1
thanks, Liz...he is getting taller, cuter, smarter, all that of course!!!
Happy birthday, Ves...
Morning, Betty and the rest of you. I am missing tangiegirl, is she OK?? still in pain from her fall? worried about her.
and Laura, I meant to say in teaching art and art history over the years, I learned a lot about aboriginal art, and love every thing I have seen. wonderful subject to study, and I envy your didgeradoo.....now I know I spelled that incorrectly, but rats! I am not taking time to look it up.
so thanks for showing us such a lovely one.
You all have a good day....will check in later tonight,
shar
Betty Thank You for the card. It was perfect!
Reminded me of one of my favorite cakes I haven't had in ages. Angel food with butter cream frosting!
Might have to go get one! LOL
Thanks everyone for the
b-day wishes!
Morning all..wonder if I can talk the boss into letting me work the days I want to work..lol .. having record breaking temps here today and tomorrow..the last 3 days were perfect..would have been a great week to have vacation..out of luck, especially as I'm heading south at Christmas barring any mishap...
Liz, I second the 'Dr. Phil' show..french families are much the same..I AVOID stress..must me a sign of old age..
Shar..have to agree...Ethan is just adorable..too cute!!! Will take you a few days to settle in I'm sure...as for 'Tangie'..sent her a few d-mails, a card by snailmail..perhaps she's not told us just how serious her fall was...hoping to hear something shortly..don't have tel.# or I'd call to check up on her...miss her as do I when you are all not on...
Vicki, cake sounds great..I'd add strawberries though...
While on vacation in August and had everyone over for b.b.q. I had purchased a cake that never got used because of all the sweets everyone brought..took it out of freezer last night..now I'm cutting down, had one slice and will give it away to Greg and boys tonight..what a waste as it was large but found everytime I went into the refrigerator freezer it took up most of the space..so, it had to go...
Busy first thing this morning but things are quiet now..should take out some knitting..
Good Morning All,
...Happy Birthday Ves!! Enjoy that Angel food cake.
Also, do you make a lot of homemade sauces? With you all your canned tomatoes, I mean. Nothing like fresh from the gardens...ohhh, I can already smell spegetti.
Shar, Welcome Home. We missed you too. Sounds like your vacation was awsom, and what better way to come home to Ethan, He has grown quite a bit since we last saw him. A painting, cool what did you paint for him? Did you take a photo?
Liz, I can relate with the family thing, sometimes it's better just to hold your thoughts, it all smoothes. MIL is kind of the same way, Love her to pieces but oh man, I kind of run away when she gets like that. LOL-let her son deal with it, he's used to her ways...So, hows the decorating going? I was glad to hear your were feeling better and got some rest in...also, curious did your hands turn out the way you wanted?? I might be tempted to try it.
Dawn, How was Vegas? You went to Nascar event right? I hope you got to squeeze in a couple quarters in the slots.
Wonder, well my gosh you are so sweet to get that instrument for DH. It is one magnificent piece of work. Sounded really difficult to play too. Will he get a stand for it?
Jeannine, First-I must tell you your watercolor blanket turn out beautiful. Second, wow that is just incredible on the work of Hobbe's. I am looking forward to seeing how you finish it...Then you had mentioned twice now a craft, that I have never heard and wondered if you will tell me of it. I think it has something to do with yarn punching?? ...also hope things work ot with you vehicle, obviously I can feel your pain on that.
Betty, Betty...You are just too much! I love the clown outfit!! Made 2 in the years past, only mine were happy material, not scarey. I bet yor GS will be the costume around, Cardigan turned out lovely...Wondered if you got a chance to work on the B & B sign.
...So here's what been up-Saturday, made some calls on mini-vans, went to look at one and decided then and there it was the one for me! Several factors played into this-I liked the story right away why they were selling it, they were selling it at the lowest price in that blue book listing or whatever it's called. The mv was immaculate for carting around 3 kids for 7 years! All the back seats are removable for loading, hauling equipment..for us this is practical. For quirks, CD/Cassette player, I love that...Has a compass and thermometor, Can circulate air inside only(a must for me) the passanger door opens with a remote!! oh gosh how incredibly cool is that. Ok, ok, so DH looked under hood and under carriage at the breaks and blah, blah mechanic stuff. They had routine care on for you can tell it was well maintained for. All I had to do was look at him and give my smile of approval and the deal was made. So here is the particulars...2001 Midnight blue Town & Country Minni-van. I am stuck on blues and Chrylsers-
Sunday -relaxed and finally did the mason work on mini house, finished my book.
Today-so far so good!
Have a great day,
Here is the painting I did for terry......did it in a couple of days so it really is not as finished as I would like, but taken from the inside of my mind as it was, it worked out quite well. remember he is the professional pianist.....eats lives and breathes music and theory and composition......He played and I painted!!!
thanks for asking to see it. It is about 2'x3', done in acrylic.
morning all,
well i broke down and went to the doctor boss told me to go and not only do i have a sinus infection but it spread to the ear boy i sure do it right gave me a 10 day supply of antibiotics so i guess i will try to behave and not do to much .....
betty, so the french get like that to,i have tried to figure out why they do things like that and i finally gave up, im with you on stress i cant have any its to draining for me i like the peaceful life wish they would figure it out lol
judy, so you got the van whoo hoo that will be a load off your mind, well lets see i saw something on i think it was home and garden it was whimsical painted tin man pumpkin so while im laying on the couch doing nothing maby i'll assemble it.. what is your book about you finished now that sounds like quite a project good job
well off to relax liz
wow shar, that is so cool
Thanks. Liz...think I needed to edit it though....is off center and looks to be an angled painting. should have done that before I sent it.
get well, my friend....don't need to be sick any longer!!
Oh my gosh, Shar-Spectacular! Quite the inspiration too to paint to his music.
...I love the little fuchia duck in the lower left. Looks like he is in heaven watching her play. You are incredibly talanted.
Liz, oh gosh...I did not write a book, should have said finished reading my book. It was triple novel by Nora Roberts...I love her stories, especially when they are a series.
As for my writings, mostly they are in my journal. I wrote sort of a short story in 2005 about my mom's garden knomes and how I got them. Currently, I'm peicing it in to a small book for my brothers and sisters which will include all the photo's from the story. Enclosed is the photo that, Literally compelled me to write. LOL the weeds of that year, Marsh marigolds, and while pulling the weeds was inspired to do the photo shoot!
Guess I'll post..was sulking...wrote a long/long post, telephone rang went to minimize screen as to access calendar..you guess it lost my post!
Another major accident here in the city involving vehicles and trucks..from what I understand 1 dead (trucker) but the vehicle that's compressed beyond recognition under the truck, who knows how many were in it...can't believe just since Friday how many deadly accidents there have been...I blame it on gmt. for allowing so many subdivisions all along the 400 series..thousands upon thousands of home springing up and no one thinks about using the now overloaded highway system..then to boot, speed limit is 100kl...well police have let it be known that they do not stop cars going 120kl..so now you see vehicles easily going 140 + kls...dangerous..taking our lives in our hands to say the least each and every time we access this series of highway..
Liz, hope the medication is working..should have gone last week 'sweetie' don't overdo..does that mean you can have a few days off...lets hope..especially if your weather is same as here..breaking records today and tomorrow...
Judy/Judy..you almost did it to me..made comment about the little duck in the corner..can't tell, was just about to click..had I done so that would have been the end of todays posting..lol..should do what someone else suggested..do it in word then cut and past...think it's an excellent idea..here we thought you were so into writting that you just completed your first novel..and now you tell us you were 'reading'...love the garden knomes..did a few sets when I was into ceramics but left them outside one winter and that was their cool demise...your family will so enjoy the short story...maybe you can make it a christmas gift...how many houses do you have made for your mini-village? will post a site if I can find it that does tours of mini towns...
Well, I've one h..l of a headache..must be that I need glasses..will try to figure out what day I can take to get eyes checked...Paul is with owners of the facility this aft...say a little prayer..need to get off this highway system...so, I'm going to put my head back and rest these eyes...
Oh Betty,
So sorry about yet another headache! Really wish you make an appointment.
...I think you need a second opinion "Dr. Betty"
How awful on that viscious Car accident, really hope that move happens quickly to get you off that dreadful highway...Bib bummer on loosing your first post too-It is a really good idea about doing it in word and pasting here, especially for long ones, but I am glad you didn't loose this one...the little duck is innocently precious!
Liz, I do hope you ARE resting on the couch! maybe taking a little nap too.
hi all, happy birthday vess....
sorry to hear antoher headache is on the way, could well be a glasses thing,
Yes i think he will make a stand for it as it keeps it safer. i am waiting for my camera to charge and then i can take a pic of it.
slwpt ok last night but my heart is just not in it anymore in terms of going to work. Its becoming unpleasant. there are other jobs available but because of what my manager has done regarding my testing , i cant go for them! grrrr i could be away from her.
I will be picking up a second job tho. I have put my resume in at my old work, Bevilles Jewellers, to pick up some casual hours. we need to boost the income so i will be working nights and weekends as well. 4-6 hour shifts so thats something. i dont want to go full time there as your on your feet all day and i couldnt take that. we will see how i go, if it takes too much out of me then i will have to stop.
anyway, must get ready for work. have a good day.
xx
Laura, how are you going to manage visiting with hours with so few hours??? 2 jobs..dear me...with you feeling ill and just starting to feel like your old self..is it wise? Know you must do what you have to do, but first you must look after yourself...
Hwy400N moved well tonight..I'm settling in for the night .. bath,p.j.'s and I think the 1st night of dancing with the stars will be on..probably the only reality show I look at..
