Oh I love those blizzards... and that dark blue up there with that satin finish..lol.. sure is a killer blue.. I ♥ it.

My blue silk is like a washed out version of yours.. I wonder if that is the reason for the shriveled up seeds i've gotten.

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Hmm...I think the shriveled up seeds are just ones that didn't get fertilized...at least that was what I was assuming. Maybe Ron can tell us for sure.

Here I am checking out the seed production in my MG tunnel!

Very nice photos Beth,

be sure to pick lots of seeds..lol.. oooh, are those gourds back there hanging on that cattle panel?

I love your work garden, and your home garden.

A.

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Those are gourds and the seeds all came for YOU!!!! LOL

Beth, I loved seeing the pictures of you and your garden. Puts everything in context. Usually we just see pics of blooms as if they grow in a vacuum. LOL

Here's the old yella farm house, my home for 16 years so far...we'll never make architectural digest, but it's a house full of love and morning glories and I hope I'll never have to move!

Beth - WOW!!! Look at all that undeveloped land!!! I'm so jealous! What I wouldn't give to have an acre! Love your little yella house! And I love all your MGs and the way you have them displayed on the arbor tunnel!!!

Hey Beth that purple one looks like a sunsmile. Is it a Sunsmile dwarf variety? They have the blooms with frills like that too.

Guess what? My Chachamaru is making pollen now. I was able to tag some of mine today. It was the heat or the wrong time for it to make pollen or something. The cooler weather is bringing my Chachamaru around. Maybe next year I`ll plant some Chachamaru in September and see if that works better.

I`m going to to save the seeds you sent me for next year and plant some pods from mine too and see if they look the same. I can try a Spring and fall batch and compare results.

Good to hear about the "return" of your pollen! Mine Chacha set seeds very early in the season, so maybe they don't like high summer for some reason. I'm not sure if the purple is a sunsmile...it's from a Kikyo mix.

Beth, I`m seeing the same varieties of flowers behave different in your climate and mine. It is interesting and supportive when the differences can be sorted out to make sense and improve our gardening skills!

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

It's funny that we are all the way across the country but in the same climate zone!

Beth,
I also want to ask you for some info... on Gypsy Bride, did you start it in winter? If so, was it under lights the whole time? I want to start the seeds you sent me in Jan or Feb, would that be early enough for them to bloom in the spring/summer? Thanks.

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

The one that got really big and gave me all the seeds was started in January of last year and kept under lights until spring. It really didn't grow that much because I couldn't keep the temps very high in my greenhouse, but it was ready to grow like crazy when I transplanted it outside in June. Another one I just started from seed in the ground in May, and it also bloomed just fine, but later in the summer. Overall there was some advantage to starting the one early. I have three that I just started to see how they do this winter.

Beth, Even though we are in the same climate zones there are differences in the way our flowers are behaving. There must be other differences like mountains(you live in a valley?) and differences in the humidity etc. Karen

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Definitely! We have very little humidity in the summer here. I think climate zone just takes into account the annual low temps, while disregarding the max temps. We don't get very hot, and we have almost zero wind due to being in a huge protected valley.

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Here's our average temps...

Our temps can go over 100 and the humidity is horrible.

I remember starting my Gypsy bride sometime in March because I could bring it in and out of the house if we had a sudden drop in temperature. It bloomed modestly early summer for a little while and quit as soon as it got really hot. Now in late September it is budding out along with the tri color Wedding Bells.

In my case, I got a few weeks of blooms for starting in March. Now it is making these stems loaded with buds to make up for lost time during the hot summer.

Karen

I just had my first Wedding Bells bloom yesterday, so that sounds about the same with the tricolors. My heavenly blues, blue stars, and flying saucers have been blooming for about a month now. Wedding bells took longer but I think I planted it later because I put it in my work garden and they didn't till until well into spring.

" it's a house full of love and morning glories" What an awesome thing to say!!
