I was wondering how you display a large amount of MGs? Do you use more than one on a trellis? Lots of trellises? I have seen a children's teepee that looked fun.

Hi Teresa,

I have several ways my Morning Glories are grown with places they can climb. I have a couple of areas with lattice that they climb. I also have one part of a wood fence with light weight fencing material attached that is installed so it is away from the wood by about 6". I have several trellises that we made out of heavy weight cattle panel material that are about 4' x 10' bent into an arch.
I have some cylendars about 4' tall x 3' in diameter. I also use various sizes of tomato cages. Part of my property has a chain link fence, so I am able to have several areas with MGs growing. Plus some other creations made out of rebar and other types of metals. Last year I grew Sunflowers and Castor Bean Plants for them to climb. And, I have them climb one of my small trees where they do get sun to filtered sun. I'm sure I have left out some other ideas.

Then, you can be really creative and use just about any kind of yard art to let your MGs climb.

The list is endless.

Hope this gives you some ideas.

Writing all those ideas down, for sure!!! I was wondering the same thing...how can I "make" more room for them next year...great suggestions!

Oh, and another that I just thought of that I did for a LONG climbing vine. Seeds that I got in Acapulco. Call this one 'Acapulco Blue'

I have this one growing up a 30' or more extension ladder that is leaning and anchored to my detached building.

Last year I started this MG late and didn't get blooms until late.
SO, this year - this was one of the very first that I planted.
STILL NO BLOOMS
This tells me it is a late bloomer.

Here is photo of what the vines look like this week

Closer shot at the top of the ladder
You can't tell it in the photo, but this vine is just about to latch onto the Pecan Tree

If you think about all(!) of the vertical space that you have(!)...there is always someway to fill it...
attaching lines to trees and other structures...people hang out clothes lines...what about plant lines for vines to climb up directly and/or to hang 'flying' containers from that you can reel in and out...then your Flying Saucers will really be flying...bleachers...monkey bars...think like a kid or go ask one...

Vines? Did someone say vines?

The only thing we can't do with MGs on our hill is to swing on them across the hollow and yodel - lol
