Oh, so many pretty blooms! I have nothing blooming at the moment, but I think my SOH-maybe is going to bloom in the morning, and I'm going to miss it! I can only hope it will be open a bit still when I get home.

The blue and pink nils that you asked about do look like the types that come out of the Early Call mix...still nice though...I'm partial to the blue...

I have to leave early in the morning for work, so unfortunately some of the MG blooms aren't quite completely open.

This is a photo of what I believe is Fuji Hot Pink Frost.

Here is my first bloom on Lady Laura. Very large bloom!

First bloom on what I think is Youjiro Kongo.

Emma - Does the Cocoa Chocolate have a thin white border on the bloom?

Syrumani, I hope I'm not being too silly, but I've noticed that some of my Ipomoea nils stay open until sunset - they get alternating filtered light and shade from overhanging trees - especially the F2 generation from a chocolate-rose silk mixture from Emma. Parasols used to shade both tree peony flowers and the Chinese emperor's pate, as he sat among his court gazing upon his pampered treasures.

What if you tried some kind of shading over a blossom about to open during the day while you're away? This might be more of a help as the year continues to age and flowers stay open longer.

Your Henka Blue vine is really growing out some nice blooms! I wish my vine hadn't been destroyed.
That's neat to see what the Fuji no Ao looks like! What a beaut!!!

Why do they call them Early Call mix?
Beth - Love the color contrast between the Sunrise Serenade and Hatsu Arashi! Such bold colors both of these vines!!!

Karen - my problem is that in my yard there is no shade anywhere. Unless I can rig a small shade over the bloom tomorrow . . . maybe I could tie an umbrella in place, and hope the dog doesn't get it . . . Hmm, that's a thought. Nichole

Nichole, one of my gardening friends used two large golf umbrellas to shade a bunch of her shade plants after she had a couple of shrubs removed that had been providing the shade! She posted the picture on our local horticultural website - it was hilarious. She left the umbrellas up until she replaced the shrubs.

Well, the wintersower's hoophouse may be taking recycling too far for some - it seemed an interesting destination for the emperor's parasol. But getting back to morning glories and more acceptable aesthetics, there's something nice you can do with the website from which the following woodcut comes:

Since Murasaki wrote The Tale of Genji* around the 11th century, many Japanese artists illustrated that scroll over the centuries, and the above woodcut illustrating the Morning Glory chapter is one of quite a few.

You could create quite a file of flowers (including morning glories) done in the style of mostly Edo woodcuts from the above website alone. One caution - the prints under the category of Shunga are not family oriented, so don't click on those if you don't want to be offended.

Not for sure why the Early Call MG is called that, but as a guess, maybe because they are an early bloomer - HOWEVER, there is also an Early Call I. purpurea mix that is totally different from these blooms that I have posted.

Every Bloom I've seen posted or that I grew of the MG I named Lady Laura are not growing back True. All are very different. Yours is a beauty

looks like you too are getting blooms that have Blizzard

The Cocoa Chocolate has a Margined Picotee Edge on most blooms, but some will have a thinner picotee. Can't tell if this one is Cocoa Chocolate or another that was very similar that had either Gray or Smoky Plum Colored Blooms.

This one took my breath away, maybe there should be a health warning when growing these JMGs? LOL

This one is putting out some very nice flowers now; they had a hard time opening up when it was rainy a couple weeks ago.

The same could be said for Shikanoko, which made its most perfect flower for me this morning.

Fujishibori is still flowering, what a beauty!

Kohkan does not seem to be making as many seeds as it did last year. I like its vivid red.
