Both water and soil: some each way. No special temperatures. It's all done downstairs and under lights. Temperatures are around 65.
What's Blooming? #13
Great coleus shot. I usually grow a pot o coleus but I did window boxes with blue petunias, sweet potato vines, and multicolored portulaca this year to fulfill my planter urge. Glad someone put Carrie out of her misery and explained JIs to her in my absence. I'm moving from my house to the barn apartment this month (renting the house) so I'm pretty preoccupied trying to whittle my possessions down. So far that doesn't mean plants or garden, but it does mean I disappear from DG to move stuff. It was so beautiful today. Wish I was just gardening like mad instead. I did buy 3 more late dls at Olallie this weekend. But I still haven't photoed them!! I'm friends with lots of hybridizers but no one has named a flower for me. I seriously want one named for me but I don't want to intimidate someone into doing it. I want to deserve it. So far it seems like hybridizers usually name flowers for other hybridizers, so I'm outa luck. Japanese anemones? I love one called Andrea Atkinson (who she?), a single white, but she always dies here. Only the robitussin one (my name for robustissima) comes back and spreads. Maybe I should break down and get Honorine Jobert.
Thanks Louise, Al, Onewish.
Nice photos folks
Lovely photo Loretta.
Pirl - I did a coleus cutting to try it. It rooted pretty fast in vermiculite for me.
Arlene, your "Pirl's Pink Eye" is absolutely beautiful! I LOVE the huge big eye on her :) Very nice accomplishment :)
I'm jealous of your moon flower Loretta. I had one bloom and missed it's opening. Was it as fragrant as they say?
Thanks, Kim.
Nice shots everyone, Victors night shots, Pirl's DLs and a moon flower too. What's not to like. :)
Such beauty offered by all of you. Thank you!
Interesting night shots, Victor! Very pretty......and even an orange guy!
Al - nice combo of coleus.....I plan to do more of those myself....so many new and interesting colors and shapes.
Loretta - great shot of your moon flower!
Pirl - If we work on it, we might be able to get a whole Pirl Line of blooms going! And booj - I'm committing to name one of my first hybrids after you, so don't fret - it'll happen..........one for you, one for Pirl, and even some of the rest of you....maybe even one for the guy in the Big C house......I have a Friendship Garden already - made up of plants given to me by friends; My game plan for my self-made hybrids will be a DG garden named for helpful pals who teach me things.....already a garden full! Gorgeous day again!!
Our red "Pioneer" glads are finally in bloom.......brightest red I've ever seen! And my hydrangea did bounce back overnight, but it may be because I watered it late yesterday....can't tell for sure. We sure do need some water here!
Which one - Plantaginea?
Not sure Victor, i'll look the next time I go out.
That one is the mother of all fragrant Hostas. Aphrodite, Guacamole and the other fragrant ones were developed from H.p.
Great shots, Victor....love the winterthur berries and that gorgeous crape...such a pretty color. A nice collection of interesting pics!
Everything looks gorgeous, as usual. Victor, I never cease to be amazed at how lovely your plants are for such a wiseacre... Yes, Booj, they did put me out of my misery, a single shot to the brain. And in general, folks, when you see MG, do you think MiracleGro, Morning Glory or MariGold? (Just an informal little poll, or pollette.)
xxx, Carrie
A terrific group of pics once again Victor. Nice pine, does it hold that color through the winter? Nice close ups of bee and bugs too. My viburnum never keep their berries for very long if they get that far, usually something eats the flowers and / or tips that would flower. The new monarda RW I got this year has not flowered :( so I appreciate seeing yours very pretty.
Thanks ladies. My RW didn't bloom until year 2.
Great photo's Victor and that crape is stunning!!
Great Pics everyone!!!!! I am still not sure the name of the dahlia... I shall name her "no name dahlia"....
what is calicarpa??? a bush???
Victor, we bought ours in bloom from HD! Now we have too many.
x, C
Callicarpa is a small shrub. It gets tiny pink flowers but the real draw is the electric purple berries. ngam, forgot to say that the pine does keep its color in Winter, though not as intensely.
Don't know why, but when I see "MG", I think of a car. ☺
Victor, yes - it is H. Plantaginea that I sent to Pixie. Glad you like it, Celeste - so do we.
Your pine is wonderful, Victor! How big does it get?
Thanks. It's a very slow growing Pine but could eventually get to 15ft or higher if it's not pruned.
Very nice. Soft needles?
I don't remember! I'll have to check. It's not close enough to brush up against while walking by.
