Not meaning to be a bugbear but....

Why? It was a simple article, written with a smile and a giggle. If someone took it wrong - that's regrettable, but it certainly wasn't worth all this angst. The picture issue has been addressed. So everything should be hunky dorey....like the Hawaiian's say with a wiggle of the thumb and pinky.....hang loose!

Hi Island, I wasn't referring to the article just about the photographer getting a heads up note about their photo being used before the article was out.. I know critter said she would do it if she could but that doesn't mean anyone else would unless prompted by administration.
Just curious. A simple yes or no from them will do it for me. :-)

I'm sure LouC was just frustrated that this has gone on so long unnecessarily. What would satisfy you? A personal promise from each writer? It wasn't your picture, so I don't understand why you feel compelled to continue the discussion. I sincerely doubt that each writer would give you personnally an assurance that they will do the best they can....They already do! I get permission before I use a pic from PF, but after this, I probably just won't....and other writers may feel the same. That in itself is a shame, because there are some great pics there, and they were put there to "share" with other dg'ers....which is what the articles do. Nuff said.

pell, so sorry that I have offended you. no intent to hurt any one person. just wanting to help us all get back to the real reason we are all here. the absolute last thing I would ever want to do is hurt anyone. I will not post further.

Now, tsch tsch, all this squabbling! Do I detect a little bit of sour grapes having dropped into our wine? OK, condescending I know, but this is really going beyond what this was all about. One or two people need to take a good look at their attitude, and it's not at all like me to take the high ground but this is what others are doing, recognise it?

On the subject of writers taking time to look for pictures, well we have made it easy for you! We spend hours stood in the garden, hours downloading pictures, hours sorting, deleting, then fixing the few good ones we have left. Then, why lo and behold, we have to spend many more hours trying to ID them!

Hey folks, I happen to enjoy doing this and I gladly do it for free, I gladly spend hours searching for ID's for other people too! FOR FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, if this is not appreciated, and looked upon as some sort of service we should provide for the good of those writing their articles, who happen to get paid for them, then tough luck!

Geeeeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, I had thought when I logged back on all the dust would have settled, now I have another reason to rethink my role.

Each reply kicks up more dust. I think this horse died long ago and we should all stop beating it.

Sharing what we know and have learned with others here is something we all do. So is taking, editing, and uploading photos to the DG databases. It's part of the joy and pride we take in being part of this community.

I don't see anybody being unappreciative or disrespecting of the contributions people have made. But I'm disturbed by this "us versus them" division you're expressing. The people writing the daily articles are also DGers. You seem to be offended now by the mere existence of these articles, and I have no idea how to respond to that.

edited to add that I just saw Dave's post... and he's right. I think this thread brought up some good points that have been addressed, and it seems like all that's left is more dust to kick up. So let's not. :-)

Critterologist, I don't feel that Wallaby is setting up an "us versus them" division. She's only made it clear that the efforts of the ones that post pictures and all the work involved in that deserves more appreciation and recognition.


What she asks for is only fairness and that cannot be asking too much?!
What Wallaby does for this site is invaluable and it would be a terrible loss if we lose her.

If anyone wants to use a photo I posted to DG, you are welcome to it. I am aware (by posting my photos to DG) that I am giving up that control. I even took off the watermark feature so it won't mar the quality of the photo. I think we are a sharing community (experience and photos) and I have agreed to the DG rules. If I felt differently, I just wouldn't post my photos!

Let me quote what prompted my response, then I will let this rest in peace as it rightly should. Anyone wishing their photos to be used is just fine, also with me if it's in the proper context, so it would be nice if people would not keep harping on about that. I doubt anyone will want to use mine now, but that is also fine with me. There are not many writers, so how about anyone really wishing their pics to be used dmail them privately? Or perhaps one of these people could start a thread to do this if they feel so strongly about it?

I hope you didn't misunderstand my comment. By "just won't", I was referring to using PF pictures, as in "I just won't use PF pics". I was not implying that I would use them without asking for permission. I guess I did not word that very well (so much for being a "writer").

I just saw this thread and read it...............as Dave implies, I think I am probably just kicking up more dust..............but, i get emails all the time from flickr members wanting to know if they can have a pic of something i have posted on DG..............I tell them I don't care and am flattered they like it....................don't think anyone will be using my photographs for any commercial use (LOL)...........i can barely use the camera..............
