Everyone can be funny.
Daily Musings - page 19
My best friend thinks I'm very funny, but she admits that she laughs at me when I'm trying to be serious, not when I think I'm being funny.
DB:
Glad you had a good time away from the gardens. Oxen are marvelously built creatures!!!
About the raisin, do you think that Morgan had it in the back of her mind that she needed an excuse for another visit?
LOL Harper, I feel your pain, or your humor. or maybe your funny bone (it's this bone right here in your arm, yes, I can feel it now, the humerus bone, and don't anyone correct me!).
xxx, C
Candyce - that little angel may just have clutched it so tight, we both had no clue! Once she overcame her fear of raisins (there must be a phobia name for that! LOL) she must not have wanted to let it go! Or your theory may also be possible. She's a dear!
Bad news today....our house in Fla. was broken into.......so was our next door neighbor's. Not sure what was taken until we get down there.....not much of financial value there, just a lot of sentimental stuff mainly. I feel so shaken and violated. Ugh. Once in Conn. my DH's car was left open and one morning his CDs were strewn all over the car seat......seems they weren't country music fans and didn't like what they found. We had a big laugh at that one...they wouldn't have liked my classical stuff either....LOL (But I'm not laughing today.) Hopefully, the thieves didn't see much of interest this time either. Maybe my football player bobblehead from my junior high days set the tone for them first thing!
Good luck Louise. That's always nerve wracking.
Oh no - so sorry to hear that Louise. That's awful.
Thanks.............just an ugly feeling. I feel bad for the neighbors. They are elderly and not well.
The neighborhood has always been so safe....I grew up in it....just plain UGH!!
Too bad Louise. That must be even more uncomfortable not being able to check it out.
Oh, no, Louise! Poor baby!
x, C
Oh no, Louise!!! How awful!!!
You hit it on the nose, Dave. I can only imagine what might be missing until we get there. On the positive side, at least we weren't IN the house to be hurt by the thugs! Whatever they took is only stuff. And they didn't do any vandalism in the house! Whew!
Back to positive things.......how beautiful is today??!! My DH and I went out to buy some mums and took a picnic on the Connecticut River near the garden place I like. It was a huge spirit lifter after being on the phone with banks, etc. most of yesterday to cancel credit cards, etc. We bought some huge, beautiful yellow hardy mums (4 for $20) which was a good price considering how full they were. They have filled the blank spaces where the daylily bodies were to make a cheerful spot behind the stone wall.
Nice rock wall. Did you build it yourselves?
Thanks, Yankee. Yes, my talented DH built it. Our daylily garden is primarily behind it, and used to be primarily a full sun garden until our Chestnut tree spread so much. The grassy area in front of the wall faces the outdoor fireplace & BBQ pit he built from digging up the bricks from the first beehive oven from 1763 and reconfiguring them into an outdoor cooking area. We cook corn over the fire in the fireplace and cook everything else on the BBQ pit. Above the fireplace you can see the old grinding stone we found when we were digging up the bricks. It became an ornament for the chimney. He had to add a few modern bricks to finish the armitures. The sides are stones from the meadow. We use it all summer.
What beautiful spaces! I would love to have a DH that does such marvelous work. Those rocks in the wall look so heavy. I can hardly lift a rock as big as a watermelon. How'd he do that?
Harper - He moved them with pincers. It's all about leverage. I helped then, but wouldn't be able to do it now with a weakened back. The two of us have moved granite foundation stones this way too. That photo of the "Pit" was sort of washed out by the sun..... I just took this one of the asters and autumn joy behind the stone wall. It may be clearer.
Very nice. The satellite dish kind of kills the rustic feel though!!
No kidding!! Not one, but two........and that is the ONLY place where we can get a signal. One is for tv and the other is for the internet. After all these years without even a television here....see what happens when you retire!! You just lose all good taste in favor of connection to the outside world. After DishNetwork came and said....Sorry, you can't get a signal anywhere......we were ripe for the picking when another company found a spot with a SW angle. How quickly we compromised on principles!!! But.......I HATE the dishes!!! I try not to look at them, but how can you miss them?!!!! UGLY!! I'm thinking morning glories next year, but then I won't get any reception! LOL
Hey, well, at least those dishes aren't like the old, six foot ones. It's a truly beautiful spot you have there.
Thanks, Harper! We enjoy it despite the UGLY dishes now. I guess I wouldn't be on DG without that lower one!
Keep the dishes! Keep the dishes!!!
I have visited DB's place and it is just as forgeous 'in person' as it is in her photos. Personally, I never noticed the dishes, ecause everything has been so artfully laid out that they are hardly noticeable.
Hers is a very peaceful and restful spot way out in the woods.
Yes, that feeling does come through the photo.
oh my gosh! look at those typos!!
I must cut my fingernails!!!!
Donnie, You can float down the river and visit us!
DB so sorry you have had a problem down south, hope that all will be well for you and your neighbors.
I don't see how anyone would notice the dish either, your outdoor sitting area and garden surrounding it must take all the attention. Looks like it was a lot of work but it certainly was well worth it, great job.
DB, i'm so sorry someone did that to you! I hope all is well and not much was taken or damaged.
Your outdoor sitting area is lovely and so peaceful looking!
Wow, guys........what uplifting, affirming posts from you all! Thanks! I have mentally moved on from the Tums gulping and hand-wringing over the Fla. break-in. They took jewelry from our neighbors, and I didn't leave much of value there along those lines, so I'll try to be a big girl and just suck it up when I find out what was taken. One bad thing about being a Cancer is that you get attached to home and things in it....especially gifts from friends and loved ones. I need to work on letting some things go anyway, so maybe this is my starting point. Our NH and Fla homes are modest, and we've amassed way too much stuff to keep them simple, so I'd like to think I can just say...."whatevah!!"
You DG pals are just the BEST! And without that ugly dish, I wouldn't haveya to fool around with in cyberspace. So, yeah, Harper........it'll have to stay!
Dave - I may just do that at some point next summer. My DH and I love to canoe. :) LOL
Wow, DB ~ you are a Cancer, too? I should have guessed! Now I know why I felt an immediate kinship.
I have been letting go of stuff for the past three years, and still continue the 'great toss out', as I call it. If it is viable stuff, it goes to the Women's Shelter. If it isn't, to the dumpster. Of course, I have been trying to part with stuff from our 'mixed' family, as DD Anna married her DH just three years ago, so we have a melding of the junk. SO, while they work, I toss!! It gets easier every time.
My mantra ..... "Do we Love it? Do we Use it? Have we used it in the past year?" That seems to help with the decisions.
Cancer here too...Home is where the heart is for us isn't it??
Candyce - just noticed you share your birthday with my sister!
the 29th is a great day for birthdays, Victor!
How much do you pay for your Dumpsters? It's a coupla hundred bucks a week for one up here, and you can't throw out any REAL junk like cellphones, laptops, monitors, etc. Our basement is stuffed full of "hazardous" waste like that. I mean, I guess it really is hazardous, but where does it go next?
xx, C
Most cities have hazardous waste days as well as electronic waste days - check with you city hall.
Hmmmmmmm. I just knew someone would have a good idea - that involved lots of scary dark trips to the dank and dusty basement!
xxxx, C
Candyce and Pixie.......I'm honored to share my birthday month with two such warm and fun homebodies!! Maybe we should all have a huge tag sale............Sorry.....I only did that once....never again! My neighbor in Fla. is always after me to join in on the neighborhood tag sale........Yuk! No thank you!!! My DH is a Taurus and is far worse than I am about holding on to stuff ....forever! I excuse him because he claims to be a Good Yankee....always got the piece or part you need. The problem with that is we can no longer remember that we put anything anywhere for future use!!! LOL
But it's there 'just in case'!
Carrie:
Is there a Waste Management outfit near you? You know, those big green trucks with "WM" on the side? That's the one we use, because we are such a large family. It's not that expensive ... not when you tally up the cost in vehicle maintenance and time when you have to 'truck it all' yourself!
Victor, you are sounding like my DH.......are you a "keeper" too? Well, I'm sure you are a Keeper in the best sense, but are you a storer?
I was joking. No - I am not a pack rat.
