What's Blooming Today? #11

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

How often do you have to moisten it during the storage, Al? Got your good side in that pic.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Purple Gem rings a bell.....will see if I can dig up my list.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I've gotten by with twice a winter. All my sides are good aren't they?.......except my evil ;)

Karma Corona, color is more orange than this

You guys crack me up.....this is such a healthy and pretty thread. (no politics, thank heavens!!)Laughing feels so good and those gorgeous flower pics from Kim, Kassia, Celeste and Al just perked me up! All very lovely!

Al - no problem if you call me Donnie whenever you want. My name is Louise, but it's hard to keep all the dual names straight, so I can sympathize. You'd be amazed what all I answer to - especially with our grandsons! Thanks for the tip on your camera. I'm using my DH's camera now and would like to get one of my own. I'm not a very sophistocated photographer, so it has to be pretty pointy and clicky...and pretty "do it all for me". I have noticed that the pics of individual flowers that all of you post on this thread are so clear, and mine are not. I think I have to practice a lot more to begin with. My DH is the good photographer in the family, so I usually just let him take our photos. But not now on DG. I want to take some more up close and personal flower/bug photos to share with you all. I appreciate any info any of you can share. I've been reading the camera/photography thread too.

Just get one with a Macro setting Louise, or can I call you Donnie Brasco?? Keep taking photos and you will get much better, I promise. That's how I learned. Keep in mind that many photos you see are sharpened with software.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Ooooo, like that Karma Corona

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Victor -Actually, I tried to fix the color on K. Corona, but failed. Speaking of your sharpened images - the mystery flower was a hollyhock. There is always bumbles in there doing their laps.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Thanks Harper. Once I get a true photo I'll post it again.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I like it the way it looks now. Can you fix the flower instead?!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Sure - what do you want?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Al - you have powdered sugar from the donuts on your nose!

Love that Karma!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I want the real flower to look like the photo!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Yeah, don't change a thing

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I'm with Victor...........again.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Do Jack and Mrs. Victor approve?

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Victor.......Donnie Brasco, huh.........yeah, I like it! It has a nice tough ring to it.....let's go with it from now on! You like it ok,, Al? I could use a tougher image all the way around.....especially here at the farm........and thanks for the tip on the macro....that helps too!

And I too like Karma Corona just the way it photographed.

Al - really nice horns!

Hi everyone,
Getting bored on individual flower threads and thought I'd check the home stomping ground. Here's my first bloom from the gift RUK gave me when she visited this summer (orchid GH frenzy). It's passionflower incarnata.

boojum, those are so neat, are they hard to grow?

This clump of phlox I can't take credit for, it's Auntie's but she has no idea how it got there. It started growing under a tree 3 years ago in the field. This year it was huge, she gave 2 piece's of it away and has cut some to take inside and it's still this big. I getting a piece too as soon as I figure out where to put it. Anyways...it's very different, nothing i've seen before colorwise.

Here's a close up..it's hot pink and I mean HOT with a darker center.

Close up for Victor. You got to admit they are pretty even if they are invasive in your neck of the woods.

Love the passionflower, they look like alien lifeforms. Pix your phlox is really pretty, could be Eva Cullum. It is deep pink with a deeper color eye. Beautiful color on the mg.

Nice photo Booj.

Pix - I can only look at the MG's too. You do have them seeding everywhere right?
Nice phlox pic.

Onesta - Victor you can use the street pronunciation if you want.

Haven't shown one of my favorite models in a while - Bea Paradise.

Al that pic of Beas Paradise is the bees knees as they used to say looong ago. Just a gorgeous photo. Wow!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes they are Celeste. That looks like Heavenly Blue, which is not invasive for me. Al, I think Onesta helps you sleep.

Here's Agastache (forgot which). It's color matches the stem color of the Cotinus better than this photo shows.

Viburnum 'Winterthur' fruits with Sedum Autumn Joy starting to color up. They match very well.

Pixie - really love that hot pink phlox and the great blue morning glories!

Ngam - bees knees indeed! I love that expression......used frequently by my Mother!

Victor - pretty viburnum and autumn joy shot and I love your clematis....simakivi is now on my list for spring.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Victor really nice color echos you have there, particularly the clem and buddleia.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thank you, thank you, thank you...

Victor - you should love Pamela Harper's book, "Color Echoes". Great work.

(Harper - I did notice!)

Danks.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Victor I like all the photos too, but I need to ask about 'Carol Mackie'. Is it a fussy plant? What type of soil does it require?
I have been eyeing it for over a year now and debating....not even sure what im debating about now that I see your picture!

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

I love tall phlox and tall asters. I'll hafta take some pics of my phlox but here's one. These bloomin my stair garden every year. I've never seen them sold anywhere.

Passionflowers are easy to grow but ya gotta bring em in for winter which can get tiring. But I love them when they bloom and drag every visitor to see them (a lifetime experience for most).

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Al, only certain MG live through the winter here...most don't. If I pick the seeds off or take the vines down with a piece of plastic under it, I don't have a problem. Heavenly Blue does't usually come back on it's own...too bad as it's one of the prettiest ones if you ask me.
BTW, Bea Paradise is beautiful, the tipped ones(or are they considered 2 toned?) like that are my favorites.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

I've almost bought Carol Mackie, too but someone said it struggles in z5.

I got these glads as a bonus with the wrong name 3 years ago. I love the color!
