West Houston Swap continued...

Hey Flower!
Been thinking about you, too! Are you coming on the 20th of October to Crowellli's? Definitely collecting the ham hocks! BB???

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Gymgirl, I've been hearing so many great things about your greens and I'd love to try them. Are you willing to share the recipe? I hope you're bringing some to the gathering!

I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone.

Gymgirl's greens are THE best ever!

Kerrville, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi GG, Definitely have my calendar open for that date but cannot confirm it until at least Oct. 12, and I would definitely bring food. Would love to visit with everyone again and meet Crowellli and others. It would be difficult to miss those greens. :)
Finally did a little catching up on this thread. I did bring the brownies w/nuts to RJ's.

RJ,
I never saw Wayne at Mercer.

Is Bubba's help with the WCs a one-time treat and how much notice does he need?

Hi to ALL and keep after those weeds. :)

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

It was on the other side of the street in the Mercer picnic area. He was there, I was over at his house fri night. He had already taken two loads of plants out there.

Missouri City, TX

Bump.

Anyone up for another run to Circle-S?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Hey Bubba - can't make it but sure wish I could! I leave for Colorado Sat. morning to go see my daughter and son in law... excited, of course! Wish I could get there for a tasting! I'll count on you guys to help me make my selections of red and white. Still excited about Oct. 20 - can you believe it's October already???

Missouri City, TX

Well what better gift than a bottle of Circle-S wine for them? Other than seeing y'all of course.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I have my Christmas list going!

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Hey, ya'll,
Been pulling all-nighters to get finished with my last class in order for the school to release my Diploma! And, my professor just gave me a one-week extension to NEXT Tuesday evening! Praise God, Praise God, Praise God for grace and mercy!

Been outta the Houston Gather loop. Any new developments I should know about?

Missouri City, TX

Well, lets see. Linda & I have been continuing with the QC project. The "new" vintages have been bottled and are quite good - Merlot & Zin.
We preferred the Merlot, but still love the reserve Pinot.

Kerrville, TX(Zone 8a)

Won't be able to make the 20th date at Crowellli's. You guys have a great time!

Missouri City, TX

There will be others - sorry you can't make this one.

Could you join us THIS Friday evening at Circle-S? Can anyone?

We need to go together to get the discount.

DW & I will be at St. Arnold's Octoberfest 10/19, so this Friday or during the next week will be our last chance before the "party".

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

Bubba, I am already committed this Friday but let me know on next wk since you & Linda can't make it on the 19th.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

I'd love to come, Bubba but we're swamped with 'goings on' around here right now. I'll be there on the 20th and then we're heading out of town.

Kerrville, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks, Bubba, but we are leaving early a.m. tomorrow. One of these days.... :) hopefully.

Missouri City, TX

Opps,
Our schedule has taken a detour - heading to East TX Thursday AM - Linda's brother - ICU - post chemo infection - prognosis terminal.

More news later.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

Bubba, so sorry to hear about Linda's brother. Ya'll are in our prayers. Have a safe trip.
I just got a call fr my mom & I'm headed to Palacios to see my folks that live in FtW.
Going to miss our Friday nite QC meeting!
:~)

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm so sorry about Linda's brother, Bill.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Bubba, so sorry to hear about your BIL's health. Drive safely and best wishes.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Bubba, I've got Linda's brother in my prayers. (And both of you as well).

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

I'll be praying for you both.

Missouri City, TX

Thank y'all so very much. I think the prayers worked. He looked so much better today and the "vitals" were way better - enough so, that we have returned to Houston. Not in time for any QC, dog gone it.

When all the family was in the room and talking - he seemed to respond a bit, and we watched the numbers on the monitor change for the better.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Great news Bubba and glad y'all made it back home okay.

Can we have a sound off for everyone who's planning on coming the 20th so I can get a rough head count and know how many drinks and paper goods to have on hand? Also chime in with what food stuff you're bringing, so if we're short on anything I can cover that too, please. I'm so looking forward to meeting everyone. Y'all are all gonna' have to "grade easy" on my garden right now though. It's looking a bit decrepit and bare in spots. My best friend is in the hospital with neurological problems. I've been there every day for weeks and I haven't gotten around to doing much in the garden in over a month. I trimmed all the salvias back almost to the ground and they haven't filled back in. I was planning on sticking in some fall bloomers in the bare spots, but I just haven't had time for anything except hospital and bare necessities at home. Out party will be a much needed break for me.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi Crowelli -
I just dmailed you and now see that you've posted - I do lots of things backwards! Don't you worry about the garden. I had to explain to DH the other day that this is a transition period... he was wondering why things didn't look so good. He digs holes and moves things for me - but he's NOT a gardener, LOL.

I'm sorry about your dear friend. I'll pray for her as well as Linda's brother.

I will be coming - and bringing cornbread and something else - can't remember what - will look up the thread to see and post again later.

Bubba is it time to say what wine we want? I want to split a case of whatever red you say is best with whatever Chardonnay type you liked - since I couldn't make it to the QC sessions... I never quite got the logistics of ordering or picking it up.

I'm really excited about Saturday!
Nancy

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

How much is this wine per case? I had planned to make it to the QC on two different ocassions, but the hospital thing has really thrown all my plans awry, so I'll just take y'all's word on the wine. I'll split a case of red with someone. I usually prefer Cabernet, but since I haven't got to try any of these, I'll go with whatever red the concensus thinks is the better one. Bubba you can be the arbitrator of "best tasting red".

Missouri City, TX

OK, y'all.

There is a new batch of Merlot and Zin - both very good.
Linda & my personal favorite is the Reverve Pinot
Randy ,I think, liked the reserve Cab

The whites are also very good, and there are a couple of house specials:
Notable the Sugar Land Sweet and the Jalapeno - both of these are in the split bottles.

We are willing to go ANY evening this week.

I have picked up the bison roasts, and will have them ready by whatever time you want - I figured about 2 PM, would pack and drive to the "party", but time is very flexible. Let me know.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Hey, Bubba, those roasts sound great. Any time that you arrive from 2:00 on is fine with me, so just come on whenever you're packed up and ready. Do you have a case price on the wines?

I'm sure I posted the address earlier, but here it is again for anyone needing it.
10902 Ella Lee Lane
Between Beltway 8 and Wilcrest, 2 blocks north of Westheimer. House is on northwest corner of Ella Lee and Lakeside Estates Drive.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Bubba - are you the one to "take the orders" - and do you need help picking it up? Right now I'm living in Conroe while remodeling the house, but I could meet you there to pick it up and help drive it to Crowelli's house if no one else closer can help you. I have to go check on the house sometime this week - and could head out to Sugarland. I have a 4 door car w/ a pretty big trunk.

Also - like Crowelli - what about the price of a case? (for me a split case of Chardonnay and Reserve Pinot).

I'm really looking forward to tasting buffalo roast! No one has chimed in about what they are for sure bringing - probably everyone is out in the garden enjoying our cooler weather. I know I have!

I'll bring the salad and the cornbread - unless something else is needed more.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Hello all! I'll be there for sure. It's been a whirlwind around here but I haven't let anything affect October 20th. I'm looking forward to meeting Crowelli and seeing everyone else again....nothing will stand in the way!

Bubba, I know we had discussed getting together on the roasts but I'm not sure which direction I'm going from one day to the next right now (I'm in the midst of planning a benefit dinner and silent auction for my dearest friend who has terminal cancer, to be held on Nov. 9th.). I'm trying to get it advertised, donations made for the auction and coordinate a bake sale. I'm barely breathing right now. On top of that, we'll be out of town for 5 days right after the wing ding at Crowelli's and before the benefit. Gotta get it all done NOW!

It would probably be safer for me to say that I'm bringing a salad and a finger food. Sounds like we need some veggies. How about I bring a green bean salad and some crab stuffed mushrooms or smoked trout and crackers, tell me what ya'll would prefer (oh, and how about the roasted tomatoes?). I'd also be happy to pick up some more yummy cheese and bread to go with the wine. Ya'll chipe in and let me know. I won't be able to go in on the cases at Circle S but will happily bring some whites (Chardonnays and Reislings). I love the reds but heartburn always follows.

Can't wait to meet you, Crowelli, and see all of the rest of you again.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm so glad you can still come, Knolan! I knew you were really busy - you are such a good friend. Hope the benefit planning is going well! Take care of yourself in the midst of this, ok?

You bring the salad (green beans sound great)- and how about the roasted tomatoes? I love those!!! Make it easy on yourself since you've got so much going on right now!

I will bring a veggie (like a yellow squash dish or something other than green) and the cornbread (to go with Lily Mae's greens!!)

This will be fun! Can't wait...

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Ya'll know I'll be there. I need a break after all the reading I've been doing for the last 3 weeks! I think this time I'm just gonna sit in one spot. Don't forget ya'lls gift for the White Elephant! Wrapped or in a gift bag!

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

I think White Elephants like large bunches of banana leaves. That, and genies in bottles. I'll make sure to bring both. And a present for each ;< }

Thank you, Book! I love ya, sister. I'll bring the veggies and definitely the roasted tomatoes. Squash casserole is always #1 in my book. I love squish. LOL. Bring it on! Heehee. I think I'll also bring the smoked fish (simply because it won't need to be warmed). Cheeses and crackers as well. I'd be a very good vegetarian if I didn't smell all of the divine meats.

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

I'm going to have to bow out of the get together. The last few weeks I haven't stopped. Took DH to airport at 4:30 this morning. Plan to clean house and garden all this week. I have some special company coming next weekend too. Know you'll all have a great time. BB

Missouri City, TX

Kristi,
Linda & I figured it would be easier to do the roasts at our house.

Since there will be other veggies, etc. I won't do the usual roaster full - just the meat.

We will need some good breads - French / Italian / sourdough / whatever.

As for pricing on Circle S Wines. They vary from about $16 - $33 / bottle.

A case is 12 bottles. So we need to order at least 60 bottles to get a discount.

I'm in for a full case of the Reserve Pino - and maybe the Reserve Merlot.

Here are the "new" releases:
2006 Vintner's Reserve Zinfandel
Big and jammy with great fruit tones. Good red Zinfandels are the reason BBQ was invented

2003 Vintner's Reserve Merlot
Really soft. Pares quite well with ground meats, foul, and other game.

I suggest that everyone that wants some go to their website and see what is available first.

Dave will work with us, so mixed cases are fine. Actually, his regular prices are not bad, but it would be nice to get the discount.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Hey, Bubba put me down for 1/2 case Sangiovese and 1/2 case of the Sauvignon Blanc, if you have room for it. Surely we can get enough participation to meet the 5 cases required for the discount. They should market an "introduction sampler case" with a mix of their varieties. That'd be neat, but these will do me to start.

Crow

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

BUBBLES, SAY IT 'AIN'T SO! aaaaaarrrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhh....

Missouri City, TX

I agree, GG - we were looking forward to seeing BB and DH again.

Ok, here's the plan - we are making the "wine run" Thursday evening - y'all come join us. Not sure if our bank account can support 5 cases.

Missouri City, TX

Here is what I have - so far -

Bubba_MoCity - 1 case Reserve Pinot,
1 case Reserve Merlot

Bookworm - 1/2 case Merlot

Crowellli - 0 case Sangiovese
0 case Sauvignon Blanc

Running total = 2.5

I will edit and update this post as the rest of the orders arrive.

Please D-Mail me with additions, correction, and orders - thanks, y'all.

edited - new totals - We are going the wrong way!
