West Houston Swap continued...

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I hope y'all had a good time. I hate we didn't get there. DH didn't get home from work until after 7:00 last night and is already up and there again since 6:00 this morning. I hate it when his hours are like this! Maybe we can make the 21st for the guitar player. Are any of you planning on going to that one?

Crow

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9b)

I think everyone who came had a good time - several left with bags of "goodies". Now we need to come up with a BIG order.

Thank you Kristi for your after-party hospitality.

Would love to see y'all and more on the 21st.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

They MADE me drink red wine all nite!!! ROTFLOL
I'm a white wine drinker!
Wonderful time, good group, will be ready for repeat on the 20th with a little music!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

We're in for the 21st! I've told DH if he has to work late, he's getting to stay home and puppy sit while I go hear guitar and test drive the red! No way he'll let that happen!

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9b)

Is there a report of what wines passed the quality contol tests?

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Poor Smockette.....I know we just overwhelmed you. LOL!

I thoroughly enjoyed everyone's company!

I probably can't make the 21st, we have plans for DH's birthday but I'll be with ya'll in spirit! Can't wait to meet you, Crowelli.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

I think I had the farther-est to go & I got there @ 6:11pm.
And NO ONE was there! I felt like a kid that looses their parents in the mall!
I didn't know what to do but I'm a quick learner & learned fast!
Had a ball & even left with several bottles!
Does that make me a pro, now? lol
Now, looking forward to the next one with a little music!
:~)

LynneH,
Several made the grade.

DW & I like the Reserve Pinot (and a whole bunch of others).
Was fun to share a bottle of the Jalapeno wine (not to mention the "hot" chocolate bars) - there are some "J" bottles left.

Kristi (I think) got "hooked" on the Ilbello,

I don't remember what Randy went away with - probably the Cab.

Poor Smockette - there early, then stuck with a bunch of "reds", and finally, very short supply of "white".

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Sounds like you guys had a blast! Wish I had been able to go. It's a 50/50 that I can make it on Friday evening to hear the music and help in quality control. Hoping to make it!

If I don't make it Friday, I'll take recommendations on some red and some white (I prefer dry - like Chardonnay). How many bottles in a case, by the way? I could split red and white with someone if we like the same kinds. (cabs are good!)

Missouri City, TX

Dave has no problem with mixed cases - 12 bottles of the 750ml, 24 of the splits - only jalapeno and Sugar Land Sweet in splits.

Right now they are waiting for glass and labels - and they are not alone - many bottlers are having problems - soft drink, brewers, and wineries. Not sure why.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks, Bubba!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

My pick was also the Reserve Pinot . It is delicioussssssss....I just finished up a glass last night. May need to buy more of that!

I would be tempted to start drawing labels!!!...I would like to try some of the white...was that another tasting I'm reading on the 21st?

Missouri City, TX

Well, Randy, the price of admission is buying some wine, so I would say, more "Quality Control" is in order. LOL

Almost all the barrels are ready to be bottled - hope their supplies arrive soon.
I'm trying to talk Dave into packaging some in "boxes". It wouldn't go bad, and we would have more to enjoy.

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

I'm getting lost with this thread....What's happening at crowellli's?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Food and wine are happening here Oct. 20th. I think the general consensus was not to do plant trades because so many were done on the earlier one. If anyone wants to bring plants, I'm sure they'll find a home with someone though, so just come on over, with or without plants is just fine!

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Are we playing the "White Elephant" game?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

You'll have to tell me what that is.

Missouri City, TX

gg, after a few bottles are opened - this group will play anything - LOL.

Houston, TX(Zone 10a)

October 20th...I think we can make it... what time?

The kids are going to Hondo to live with a friend... so I'll be babyless this time :| ...

I will be boyfriendfull thought :)

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

LOL!
I know what Bubba and I will buy....snicker......

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm in for the White Elephant, Gymgirl. Is there a trade involved during the exchange? That can be really fun.

Manic - glad to hear you and BF think you can come! According to details in above posts - it's 4:00 pm to ? (if I remember correctly) and will be at Crowelli's house in west Houston. Her address is above.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Well, I don't know where I'll put a white elephant....I think my neighborhood association has rules against keeping them in our yard. Regardless, I'm in and I'll bring a fun gardening gadget.

A little off but on the topic, a few weeks ago, my detective bro called me very late one evening after listening to the police radio when there were several calls from different people into dispatch that there was a large monkey running loose in the neighborhood next to me. No kidding....totally serious. How wild is that? I would have loved to have seen that!

Glad you'll be joining us, Manic!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Knolan - there's a great adolescent-aged book, called Summer of the Monkeys (no italics available!) where the monkeys escape from a circus in the 1930's and live in an Arkansas forest - the main character discovers the monkeys, and no one believes him. Rachel might like it - same author as Where the Red Fern Grows... ah the librarian in me!

Hopefully, no one will bring yard art as their white elephants... I don't think DH would allow any yard art....

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Hey, bookworm, you can do italics by putting a < i> in front of the phrase and a < /i> (take the spaces out) after it. Summer of the Monkeys That sounds like a fun book. I need to look for it the next time we go to the library. :-) I would have loved to see the monkey, too, Kristi!

I'm sure the monkey was looking for the lost "White Elephant!"

Ya'll bring good gifts, yah hear?

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9b)

I'm in for Oct 20th. Sounds like fun.

Will be out of town again for this next QC party. (this work travel is really cutting down on my wine tasting opportunities - what a bummer).

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks Marylyn!

Great - Lynne - glad you can come! I don't think I can come the the QC on Friday, either. Bummed as well.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Ahhh, bookworm, I was looking forward to seeing you again. We'll miss you at the QC check. How's the kitchen re do going?

Sounds like everyone is on for the white elephant, so count me in.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi Crowelli - construction hasn't even started!! We changed the scope of the project and seem to have waited ourselves into a new permit process with the city. Pretty frustrating, needless to say. I'm still trying to figure out how to get to the QC, though!

Kerrville, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi everyone,

Hope you all are having great garden fun. Tomorrow and Sunday, Mercer Arboretum is having their Garden Faire. Is anyone planning to go? If so, be sure and say hello.

Sorry, too many plans already to make that.

Remember - Circle S "QC" 6:30 - 8:30 tonight with guitar music.
See y'all there.

Kerrville, TX(Zone 8a)

Bubba,

What is QC? Sounds like fun! Is it a get-to-gether on a regular basis? Also have activities tonight, but at some point would like to join in. I know the WT may be included. :) (hmmmmm) I need the one that goes with dark chocolate. Tell Linda I said hello.
Thanks a lot!

Quality Control - sort of an inside joke. Everyone raved about the few bottles we brought to the swap-meet a few weeks ago and wanted more, so I invited the group to join DW and me last Friday evening. Everyone had a good time - see above posts.

Tonight Circle S Vineyards has a guitar player, so another QC party is in order. Sorry you already had plans, but the other reason is to decide what and how many cases to buy. Dave will give the group the discount, but we have to buy 5 cases at the same time - mix & match - ok.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Wayne has a booth there at the Mercer Arboretum. I think he's there setting it up now.
I am not going though...I have far....far....faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrr...too many plants..

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

OK, everyone on this thread who doesn't know about the "Blast Out!" feature in your d-mail might want to go to the DG Forum, type in FRIENDS LIST in the search box and read up on this feature (which I found out, 'ain't so new...). Anyway, it works sorta like a Microsoft Outlook Distribution list for mass messages to your created lists of friends/groups.

That way, when BUBBA wants to invite us to a QC gathering, he can send the message out to his QC Friends list!

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

I like that feature!

The only problem with sending it out for the QC is that the responses only would go back to Bubba and the rest of us wouldn't know who was coming (or going), which way is it.

BTW - I wish I could join ya'll tonight but duty calls....

Kerrville, TX(Zone 8a)

Bubba, thanks for the info. When I'm in the area, I will pick up a few bottles and before then maybe there will be some recommendation re the white wines. I do understand the case purchase amount.

RJ, I will definitely check out Wayne's booth. I sleep/dream plants so am always ready for a sale/swap/garden faire. Thanks.

Kerrville, TX(Zone 8a)

"Blast Out!" No, haven't seen it. Hmmmmmmmm, do I smell home-cooked greens along with some fried green tomatoes? How ya doing Gymgirl?
