I'm so excited & we are how far off?
Is Corn Casserole okay? I'll make double this time!!!
And later in the day? Such an awesome idea, Kristi!
West Houston Swap continued...
Ok Crowelli! Sounds like it will work. So glad Knolan and Smockette can do that week. Check in and let us know, everyone - seems like a good choice of dates.
Smockette - sounds like a field trip before this one instead of after - I'd go with you to Great Western. As for CS - I'd love to taste their Chardonnay and a red. Corn casserole sounds awesome with a buffalo roast.
Can't wait to taste that rotisserie buffalo roast K and Bubba.
Kewl!!!
Excitement!!!
:~)
Since Bubba's gonna teach me that day how to do the roast, I'll bring another side. I make a mean dish of scalloped potatoes for a crowd. How does that sound? I think it's be good with the corn casserole. OR....I make a yummy green bean bundle (Mom always makes fun of me cause I say we NEED a green). If no one else brings a green (you reading, Gymgirl?) I'll make the green bean bundles. However, I would be happy to dine on ANY green that Gymgirl decides to bring. Matter of fact, I think I'd like to dine at her house for the remainder of my life. Breakfast, lunch and dinner....I can live in a tent and I'll just keep a tab going, paid monthly. LOL.
All sounds good to me. I'll do iced down drinks and bottled water. I'm looking forward to it. Smockette, if you or Knolan still have a pink porterweed, I'd love to get one. I will pay you, trade plants or food, beg, whatever it takes! The food all sounds wonderful. I'll wait and see what we're short on and go from there. We need cheese and crackers to go with the wine, and maybe vegetables and dip? I can't wait to try this wine out. My husband said this was his kind of garden party, no gardening and food and wine instead! Can't wait to meet everyone.
Crow
I wanna come!
Come on over Bigbubbles! It will be fun :) We should dmail folks that might not be watching this thread.
The food sounds awesome so far. I'll bring a salad or dessert - maybe wait until closer to the time and see what is needed the most. A green is always necessary, Kristi. What's a green been bundle? Maybe gymgirl will do Lilie Mae's greens again? (please?)
Crowelli - I have a big pink porterweed that isn't getting enough sun. It's very healthy, just doesn't bloom. I want to replace it with a Mexican Bauhinia that doesn't require as much sun. I don't know how I'd get it to you - but we can dmail about it. It's yours if you want it!
I'll get back later today, but will take sweet potatoes with pecan/praline sauce, and something else. We're putting in a rainwater harvesting tank this morning.......
Can't wait to see all of you again. BB
Randy's right. I have NOT had my serving of Lilly Mae's greens today...However, I think I can hold out and not have them until October 20th at 4:00 at Crowellli's.
Would somebody consider making some cornbread (with/without jalapenos) this time...?
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhh, BUBBLES! Can't wait to get together again!!!!!! Especially to taste your sweet potatoes next to the greens!!!!!
Ok. I'm salivating. Crowellli, what time does that puppy class start again? I may have to go...
This is GREATTTT!!!
The 5 case minimum was for a wholesale price to restaurants - Dave's normal prices aren't that bad, so no worries. I will see what I can arrange - maybe a couple of bottles of most, and 1 each of the high$$ varieties.
Since the unusual summer release of Circle S Vineyard's Jalapeno wine is about to be released, I will bring at least one of last year's. It was a bit sweeter than I prefer for cooking anyway, but I already know what this special "summer release" is like - Gymgirl - it would be perfect in/with the "world famous" greens. And -- if anyone else likes it, I can supply the address (physical and web). There will be a winter release, too - Dave's DW Helen promised.
If anyone wants to drop by some afternoon/evening, they do have paid tastings, and a very relaxing "livingroom" over the winery.
Did I mention thtat we went to Haak
Bring on the Jalapeno's in the cornbread OR in the wine!
Gymgirl - You bring the greens and I'll make the cornbread! So take me off of salad - I may bring a dessert also. The menu is really shaping up - I'm already hungry...
Now for some home churned butter to go with that cornbread.... MMM, MMMM, Good!!
I have only ONE request. I need either the brownies OR the eclairs to round out my plate....
I'm not a good baker but I can make some yummy purple hull peas to go with those greens, sweet potatoes and cornbread. Can we say Southern meal here? And I'll bring a jar of my homemade dills and meyer lemon marmalade.
Who made those brownies at Randy's there were two batches. One with the caramel between the layers, and one with just nuts?
I made the one with the caramel. I'm not positive I can come, but I'll try! :-)
Yes... definately want to split the 5 case minimum with ya...not that we're greedy or anything...just don't want to go - I wish, I shoulda, etc....right? I'm ready to place my order now. I don't need to taste anymore.
Reminds me of when I was coming back fr La @ my BD in April. We stopped & I must have bought 8-10 bottles of wine! It was my BD & I was celebrating! lol
:~)
Taking a break while DH goes to Lowe's for more supplies.
I'll go in on the wine also. I don't remember it, but I've never met a red I didn't like...
BB - if ya need a place to stay, you know that you're more than welcome!
I wish I could say I would be there but a little to far from Mont Belvieu for me that late. Have a great time and Maybe I will catch the next one.
Sandy ^8^
Thanks Knol.....appreciate the offer! I'll d-mail you later this week. Are you coming here the next weekend? We'd love to have you stay with us. We can round up some local DGers and run the streets!
Just got home from the opening of the Children's Park at Town Lake. Rain, lightning, but still didn't dampen fun for the little ones. 'Was our SIL's project and after he and others spoke, they turned on the fountain and lights so the kids could run in and out. Our 2 yr old GS just loved it, and since I was already drenched, we ran in and out. I think I'm going to qualify for Grandmother of the Month.......It's going to be a great place for families to spend hot sunny days.
I'd nominate you for sure! Wow, that sounds like a lot of fun and a great place for families to come.
Yes, let's dmail! I'll probably send to you tomorrow. Got an early morning but I want to talk! I have plans. Mwah, ha hahahahaha!
I'll await your plans! Yea....!
Calling it a night. We got the rain tank placed and hope to hook it up to the gutter tomorrow. It's been on my "honey-do list" since 2002! Truly, I finally wore him down!
Well, I'm still up for a moment so I can tell you that the plans definitely involve Bubba's for brunch on Sunday and I JUST KNOW Bookworm will be with us as well (and anyone else who wants to join). Afterwards...a trip to Enchanted Forest. You will be enchanted....that's for certain. Start saving your allowance!
um, somebody tell me once again where this event is taking place...
My home address is 10902 Ella Lee Lane. It's between Beltway 8 and Wilcrest, two blocks north of Westheimer, one block east of Wilcrest. Easy to get to from the beltway.
All the food sounds wonderful. I'll add a ham or pork roast to the buffalo roast that's already on the menu. I love pork with peas, corn, greens and sweet potatoes. It sounds like one of my grandmother's meals with all the delicious veggies. Yummy!
Uh, who made that second batch of brownies with the nuts? We simply can NOT have greens without brownies...that is a required part of the meal food groups (veggies, meat, dairy, grains, fruit, and chocolate brownies w/nuts).
And wine!
So right, Gymgirl and Bubba! I think Flowerette made the other batch of brownies. MarilynTx so graciously shared her caramel brownie recipe with us - I think I can find it...Hope you can make it Marilyn. I dmailed Flowerette about our get together, and will also dmail manicreality and LynneH - who else am I not remembering at the moment?
The sisters! Unique Treasures and her sister!
Of course - I just dmailed manic and will dmail the sisters in a minute!
Kipper2 was there and has had his surgery. He should be good to go by then if not working.
Hey Kipper - Hope all is well!
Ya'll don't forget to bring your wrapped gift item to play the "White Elephant" game! $5-10 minimum value, and a gift bag is okay, so long as it can't be seen beforehand! Suggestion: a novel/unique gardening-related gift item.
I have a friend who makes the most wonderful smelling soy candles in a variety of fragrances including spice, herbal and citrus blends. I'm going to see if she won't make a batch up to have here in case anyone would be interested in them. Not trying to turn this into a sales event, I just love them so much and think anyone who uses fragrance candles would like them. They are the cleanest burning, best smelling candles I've ever used and they are WAYYYYYY cheaper than Yankee and other commercial brands.
I'd like to see them, personally.
I'm going to FtWorth next wkend to help the Cousins clean out my great aunt's house. I'll go by Dallas & pick up some more wine tasting glasses if you think they will be needed.
These are the little ones like I brought to Randy's, Crow. Maybe some of the others can describe them better for you. Only about 3" high, on a stem! (Wow!)
Smockette, that sounds great to me. Has anyone signed on for dessert, other than bookworms brownies? I'll have a couple of bottles of my favorite red wine on hand here too for y'all to try. It's not a Texas wine, but a really good Italian one.
I'm doing cornbread for sure, and will try to find Marilyn's brownie recipe. I'm using a different computer for a while and would have saved it on the other computer. She posted it somewhere in the middle of the West Houston swap thread, I think.
