West Houston Swap continued...

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks Bubba...I'll bring your dishes at Octoberfest.

Kristi ..count me in on sharing the cases...as much as we like wine..that's 2.5 cases each.....LOL!!! You know we could! that really is impressive wine.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh - Smockette - you can't come the 27th? I'm so sorry - but you will be at the Nov. 10 RU in College Station, right?

I'd also go in on the wine, so count me in. I prefer white, but would also take some red.

I'm not sure we can stand not to bring plants...I have some promised to a few of us. Maybe we just promise not to bring as many as we did to Randy's and that they would transplant or keep easily in pots for the winter. Poor Randy - did you ever get out from under all those plants?

White elephant sounds fun! (Gymgirl - are you planting out your tomatoes or are you waiting - hadn't heard back)

Kristi - can't wait to taste a rotisserie buffalo roast! You and Bubba will make a great cooking team.

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Any week-end but the last in October, we would love to come! We have committed to the North Texas RU on Oct. 28.
Patricia and Robert

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

Patrob, guess I'll see you on the 28th.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Randy - you got it!!!! That stuff is wonderful. Thanks to Bubba for encouraging us!

I hope to see all of you guys there!

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi guys and gals, I'm interested in coming, but not on the 27th - going to the North TX one that weekend. I also am interested in 1) not trading plants, and 2) the white elephant.

Randy, I haven't seen you in ages, hope to see you then!

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Hey Gang!
Been outta pocket today. Went to look at flooring, and then came home and cooked a Crawfish Corn Maque Choux and watergate salad with my DSIL who stayed with DMIL. We ate ourselves silly! Randy, yah gotta make this dish -- 20 minutes tops! ummmmmmmm ummmmmmmm gooooooooooooood!!

Ok, I know plant swapping is an addiction, not easily overcome, so those who feel the need, no problem.

Here are the first part of the WHITE ELEPHANT Game particulars:

Everyone playing must bring a wrapped gift item, approximately $5-10 value limit (Baccarat is acceptable...).
Gift bags, instead of wrapping, are ok, just so long as no one can see your gift beforehand.
Your Gift item can be brand new or recycled, like new. (Since we're all into gardening, a gardening-related item might be an idea, but this is just a suggestion. Bring whatever you want to.)

That's all. The rest of the game will be explained when we get together!

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Hulloooooo...is anybody there ?????????? I really want to come and will if possible. I just need to find out when I have to be here for a couple of flower shows, and I can't find paperwork on Oct. one yet. So I'm checking in to let you know I'm following (lurking), even tho not posting much. I do the classification for horticultural entries in the flower shows for two clubs. I'll find out for sure on Monday and make plans. I don't have anything to 'swap' at that late date, but I do have some things I'd like to take and just give away. If no one wants them, I'll load 'em back up and take them home. I had no idea what to expect at my first swap...at Randy's. Now I'm a "veteran!"

And, I want Gymgirl to know those greens are becoming increasingly expensive. I had to buy a bigger crockpot...so naturally I opted for a stainless steel w/ a little one included in the price. We've been gone quite a bit the last couple of weeks, but I'm definitely makin' the greens this week, if not tomorrow. I'd like the cornbread recipe too if Smockette's around this weekend. Pleeezzzzzzz?
I ordered 12 plumerias last week for no good reason, they came yesterday, and I have spent the day finding big pots to plant 'em in. Along the way, I've bought two chairs and ottomans for the patio (50% off); two remote thermometors with remote sensors and 10 pots (75% off), and a pallet of mulch for $4. Sigh....was a good afternoon. I'm inside now, under house arrest, with my wee bit of gin and 7. Tomorrow's another day, another Lowe's!!

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Now explain once again just WHY you had to buy a bigger, better, more EXPENSIVE crock pot?

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

My lil' one just wasn't big enough to cram all those many asst. frozen pkgs into it, much less half a porker.....! Besides, how many times do you replace a crockpot? This one will have to last me till they take me kickin' and screamin' to the nursing home......so it should be purty.

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

buy smaller pork....

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

ahh... BB - so many Lowe's, so little time... plus your crockpot sounds beautiful. Too funny, GG - buy smaller pork - such a practical solution...

I've been to one central Texas RU last fall - and there weren't THAT many plants! That was an amazing array of plants at Randy's. That's why I suggested we keep it down this time. I think I know the game, GG - so we could do one with the 'gifties' and another with a plant we bring?

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

if you mean two separate games, yeah, that could happen.
oOPS. I meant, YEAH!

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

I like the idea!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I didn't realize the 27th was a previously planned swap date that some of you were planning on going to. We should plan ours the 20th so there's no conflict. I think there's very little chance of it being cold at that time, but everyone can choose to bring plants or not. Come on either way because I'm sure we'll have good food, good wine and gardening talk, with or without trade plants. I have a few that I'm going to pot up anyway, and Bookworm, I'm starting you a Confederate Rose now.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh great Crowelli! Hope it "takes" - I have a great spot for it.

Hope the 20th is a good option for folks. We want as many as possible to be able to come.

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

The 20th sounds great to me. I'll wait till a little closer to the time to commit to what food I'm bringing.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Okay, guys, I'm REALLY sorry, but I just realized I have a scheduling conflict for the 20th. If it's here, we need to do the 27th. I have a new boxer puppy and we've already scheduled and paid for puppy training that runs through the 20th on Saturdays. I apologize and hope this back and forth hasn't caused anyone problems.

Here's my new boxer baby and the reason for the change. Her name is Islay (pronounced Eye-luh). Islay is a Scottish island known for it's single malt Scotch production. Small island, five distilleries.

Crowelli - she is adorable! Puppy training is important, for sure. What fun you must be having :)

Hmmm... shall we leave it the 27th?

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

What a cutie! Makes me want another.

I may have a conflict with th 27th (we may be in Austin) but I'll be there in spirit if I can't make it!

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

S Texas Swap has been postponed til Spring so the 13th is open.
Patrob, Blue_eyes, & I really wanted to come but we already committed to Josephine & Mitch.
Would the 13th be too soon?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Is Crowelli's puppy class that day also?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I have puppy classes every Saturday from 1:00 to 2:00 starting this weekend and going through the 20th. Everyone is more than welcome here and I'd love to host since it kind of moved on me last time, but I can't do it until the 27th or after. If someone else wants to volunteer a location and y'all want to do it earlier since the date conflicts for so many, I totally understand and don't mind at all. Just keep me posted so I'll know to have drinks and munchies ready if y'all are showing up!

Crow

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Why don't we push for a little later? After the classes end?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

That works for me. Whatever suits everyone's schedule is fine.

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

works for me, too! 4:00?

Missouri City, TX

Great! So are we on for the 20th or 27th?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I think Kristi meant later in the month rather than the day??? I'm okay with 27th, but Smockette and Knolan can't make that date. Do we want to try a November date. Y'all sound off here and be counted. Do we go ahead with the 27th or move it to November?

Crow

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

We need Smockette and Knolan! What about Nov. 3? The 10th is still being discussed as Central Texas RU in College Station.

Missouri City, TX

Unfortunately we will be in New "B" for Wursrfest (November 2-11) always go on the first weekend, and take the whole week as a vacation - haven't missed since 1972. But would be available for 11/10 - can't do both weekends.

I thought the time would be scheduled after the puppy training class, so even the 20th would be open again.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

That's a good idea - as long as we scheduled it so it won't get dark on us too soon. After we look at Crowelli's gardens and make any trades - we'll probably be tasting Circle S and it won't matter.

So - Crowelli - what about the 20th at 3:00 or 4:00 pm until... you name it.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

She has puppy training on the 20th

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Right, but there was a suggestion somewhere up there to do it later in the day.

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Translation:

We're trying to meet immediately AFTER the puppy gets trained not to pee on the floor....safer that way...to meet AFTER......AFTER the training....the SAME day....so the puppy will REMEMBER not to pee on the floor....SAFER that way.....AFTER.....4:00....

got it, now?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

ooh...someone didn't get their greens today.......smirk

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

We can do the 20th at 3:00 or 4:00 if Smockette and Knolan are available. Bookworm, can you make that date and time?

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm available that date!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm in, too!

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

Oh, yes, I can make it on the 20th, after I go to GWN! Is that the place, Crowelli? Great Western ????
Did I tell you that City_Sylvia & I talked to the owner up @ the TNLA Expo in Dallas, a couple wkends ago? Neet lady!!!
Kewl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm marking my calendar!!! (Jumping for joy!!!)
Okay, Bubba, can we get a 'sampling' of Circle S & give them a 'real' order afterwards? Anyone else want to split a cs? hehehe
:~)

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Don't think we'll have trouble getting several cases together. I think Randy and I will split the 5 case minimum and I'm sure between the rest of you, there will be a large order as well.

Bubba and I are gonna cook those roasts on the rotisserie....he's gonna teach me how to use it properly and we'll be sure to have another wing ding! (That's if Crowelli doesn't mind a wing ding).
