another of 'Miami Moon' (I just love it!)
What's blooming today? #9
Dave, good to see you taking pics (and without any nagging from me at all LOL). I'd try some night shots, but I'm always asleep by the time it gets dark enough ;0)
aspen, ngam & Al ~ thanks so much for sharing the garden bed pics. it's always nice to see where the great flowers live. I keep waiting for mine to look 'good enough', but I don't think it's going to happen.
Kass, the Crown Princess looks better with every pic you take. I think I need one ;0)
pixie, beautiful collage, great colors, i want to see your gardens in the worst way. (Victor, never mind, I already thought of everything you're going to say LOL)
Beautiful everyone - looks like it has been a busy day for blooms! Eleanor
Jan, those roses are fantastic!! I love them!!
Harper
WOW, everyone! We went away for the day and just before going to bed, I had to take a quick peak at this thread.......Stunning, Stunning, Stunning!!! All of them....want each one! I must figure out a way to finance at least 8 new gardens! You guys are REAL gardeners! Goodnight and sweet dreams!! Louise
Jan - it's OK to take Loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong naps at your age ;)
Dahlias look good, did I mention Lauren Michelle is a monster - probably not. My AA pink after a litle rest has about 10 buds on it.
I like that helenium - you'll have to post a full shot for me, I did add all mine here
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/756018/
roses - well, I'll pick the Sunblaze ones from those.
now you can crank up the QVC and doze back off
Kassia - beautiful blooms and pics!! Are you up early or haven't gone to bed yet at 1:00am? LOL Eleanor
No idea, Anita, but great shot! love the water hyacinth, too.
thank you, Harper :)
Kass, that zinnia is a stunner...don't suppose you know the variety? the pink is some kind of mallow or hibiscus...very pretty!
Al, as Bea Arthur used to say on Maude...*** will punish you for that! I'll post a full shot of the helenium when it's in full bloom. only a few have opened...but I was excited. I like them more all the time. I gave up QVC in favor of the gardening & cooking shows (I love satellite TV!...and thanks to TiVo, if I doze off, I can watch them when I wake up LOL)
Eleanor, I could not sleep! and sometimes that's the best time to talk to Zuzu and Kell (Rose forum!!!)
Gram, I have no idea about the Zinnia... I looked at all the seed packs I planted and none looks like that one... the only other place they could have been is the seed balls I got - have you seen them??? pretty cool... they all have mixed seeds and none of the pink bouquets are the same... I got the pink ones since parts of the profits goes to breast cancer research... other than that maybe that zinnia is a strange mutation??? but its so exquisit!!!
I love it!
OMG! I don't check in here for a little while and just look at all this beauty. You guys have been very busy. Roses, lilies, dahlias oh my! I luv it.
Jan how is Moondance at standing up to black spot? I have this on my list but don't spray very much so was wondering if it would be okay in a mostly no spray garden.
Kassie I have Eglantyne too. It is a most beautiful flower, the foliage however was horrid with black spot this year but it is growing back now. Don't know if it will improve with time.
Anita nice butterfly, don't know who it is but this site may help id him. http://www.naba.org/chapters/nabambc/construct-group-page.asp?gr=All
Don't we wish we had their energy on a hot day like today was?
ngam, the only roses I have right now without black spot are my rugosas. Moondance has some, but only moderate as compared to the whole lot. the last remedy I've heard for blackspot (over in the Rose forum) is corn meal spread around under the bush. I'm experimenting with that as an alternative to spraying. I'm trying to keep the garden organic, and even then with as little spraying as possible. skim milk is another remedy, but has to be sprayed.
I feel your pain onewish - I've been trying to get a swallowtail's pic for a while now.
Thanks ngam - it's a Gray Hairstreak
Very nice, Anita. It's fun to see them.
My Moondance was loaded with black spot and I ripped off every leaf.
Grampapa - thanks for the corn meal tip.....sounds like it might be worth trying.
I saw something I've never seen before this morning while we were eating breakfast on our front porch. I have a hummer feeder just on the other side of the screen from my chair, and a goldfinch feeder just around the corner. Today a goldfinch decided he wanted to be a hummer, so he came over and was actually trying to use the hummer feeder. He tried several of the "stations" and seemed to be able to get some food from them. At one point, a male hummer was also trying to use it and they had a little impolite squabble. Eventually, the goldfinch ("Yellowbird") went his way and "Fancy Pants" had the hummer feeder all to himself - just the way he always likes it.
Never heard of corn meal for blackspot. Heard the milk deal doesn't work well. Though with both milk and corn meal, it's starting to sound like a yummy breakfast!
Roses and blackspot just go together if you don't want to use fungicides. I use a Sharpie and color all the leaves black first - then I never see it.
Pardon my being blond, Victor, but what's a sharpie?????
my lillies are all gone!!!!! I heard from the daylilly lady that Stella de oros will bloom again???? I hope so!!!!
