What's blooming today? #9

I've taken the liberty to move us from here http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/754870/ after 352 posts (nice work everyone!)

Starting this one off with something for Al :-)

This bed is in the front of my house. Coleus, Sedum 'autumn joy', Cleome, Agastache 'blue fortune', Gallardia 'fanfare', Lobelia 'compliment deep red', Sedum 'stardust', and baby Gallardia 'goblin'

Back yard. Zinnias, Leucanthemum x superbum 'becky', Lobelia 'queen victoria', purple echinacea, platycodon 'fuji white', white buddleja, crocosmia 'lucifer'

(as you can see from the date on the pic, it's not exactly what's blooming 'today', but it looked better two weeks ago when the crocosmia was still going - lol)

Back yard, mini bed. I may have posted this before, but I love it, so here it is again, lol.

Aspen luv your color combos and envy you for your fences, such nice backdrops for plants. I can understand why you like that last group.

This is the side garden, it is usually in full sun but early in the morning before the sun gets over the trees I love the colors in the early light. Some new plants have been added this year.

Ngam and Aspen - What a great eye you both have for combining beautiful colors and different textures.........loved seeing your gardens! Isn't it great to have such a great way to share the beauty of the gardens....especially this time of year. Thanks to you both! Louise

Ngam- lovely morning light. You may like my fences, but you certainly wouldn't envy me for my yard which is only about 20' wide, lol.

Louise- I meant to tell you back on thread #8 that although I do admire "Cuppatea" (like so many others), what I realllllllly like is your porch! That photo made me wish I could crawl through the computer screen right up onto one of your chairs and take a nap.. it looks so cool and peaceful.

I too have a small yard but I use my fences to help grow clematis which I love. I am addicted! My yard is small but I have manage to make it look pretty. I figure if I don't have the space for big planters I can always grow clematis up my fences.

Very nice aspen, did you have the name for your dahlia? I do believe your gaillardia is Fanfare.

Al - beautiful gardens. I love seeing the whole garden area and how everything fits in together - something I have trouble with. It's hard to get it all planned so it looks good in the end. Eleanor

Thanks. Most of my beds are borders so it's just arranging plants by height and what fits. I do draw plans out on graph paper to get scale.

Alas! I have no photos to show off ... and haven't in a while. I'm a bit bummed about that.

Al what a lovely garden you have made. Very impressed with how neat it all is.A very relaxing stroll around the yard. I like your path, I still haven't decided what to do with mine. They are just dirt now. Here are some pics of the garden path and beds.Hot is coming back with all the humidity. Ugh! These are from this morning.

Looking down to arbor at front end of path. A lot of these beds have been redone to some extent this year. The bed in the front is new mostly, expanded from 3' to 12' wide along the path. More of DH's lawn gone. LOL

Dawn- I have been thinking about getting some clematis. Any recommendations for a beginner?

Al- that was 'Home Depot' Dahlia... lol. I am usually pretty careful to keep tags and such, so I know exactly which species & cultivar of whatever it is I have, but I lost that one. Those came as tubers in a bag, and they were supposed to be red and white. As you can see, they are not even close to that (which is ok by me, since they are they most lovely shades or coral, orange, and yellow).
I enjoyed your garden photos here and on Andy's site very much. I also like the fence bed most. For all the photos you post here I would have bet you had acres of flowers! I love seeing how everyone makes use of the space they have (especially when space is limited). Plus I like seeing everyone's home in the photos, and the gardens look with the house.

Ngam- now I am the envious one! Great photos of your many beds and paths... just lovely. Oh how I wish I had the space you have! Looks like you live on the edge of the woods? That's my dream! I am readying myself for the heat/humidity wave here also, enjoying the fact that we still have cloudy skies and a breeze right now.

Candyce, I'm also embarrassed that I don't have any good shots for quite sometime either. I also have never worked so hard on my gardens, but I seem to have let them get beyond me... the weeds... lack of proper pruning/staking... I'm learning every day though!

Thankyou all for the nice comments. These beds either because they are new or were redone to one extent or another look pretty good compared to the shrub slope beds and the back beds which got next to no attention this year and do look pretty grim, no mulch and the weeds are taking over out there. It is Aug. however so they will have to get by for a bit because to put in mildly I'm pooped!

Here are a few roses that are blooming and the Dahlia that are in pots.

'The Shepherdess' It always fascinates me that different weather can change the color of some roses. This is new this year.

A one year old 'Wildeve'. I have one out back that was totally covered in black spot, but this one is clean. Go figure, the other one is growing new foliage now and is also clean so far.

and here are the Dahlias. I think I might try to hold them over this winter, we will see if I get lazy or not. ;) Thanks for looking.

Really pretty photos ngam. What is it about the weather that changes the color of "The Sheperdess"?

Did anyone else get those pounding rains today?

I don't know exactly why they change, mostly when the temps go up or down seems to effect mainly the yellow/apricot roses. This is a new rose this year so I don't know what the color ranges of it are, but I was very surprised to see such a strong shade of yellow today.

Aspen - Thanks! That porch is so comfy, but every time I sit out there to read or write, I get distracted by the simple beauty of the forest that just across the dirt road. I can just look at it for hours, and I can't seem to pay attention to anything else. There's very little traffic on our dirt road, so it really is a very soothing place in the shade. For some reason, my whole life I have loved to be on a porch in the pouring rain. There's something about being all dry and warm while everything around you is wet and cool.

Al and Ngam.....I love your photos of your beautiful gardens and settings. What lovely places to come home to! I would just love to follow those neat paths! I enjoy seeing everyone's landscaping so much!

Dawn - I really like seeing what gardeners do with small gardening spaces. One of my favorite gardens ever was the smallest yard I ever had. Our little Fla. house where we go for the winter has a very small patio garden, but it was so much fun to transform! I love the challenge of it. The biggest challenge with small gardeners comes in narrowing down the choice of plants .
