Joseph - those are spectacular MG's. I love the variegated foliage.

Hi Nichole - my Ensigns weren't very large flowers either. But isn't their blue color spectacular! The plant itself doesn't tend be be terribly attractive; I think the best looking ones I have are in containers with other plants.

Cheers,
Joanne

Becky, I just called it the henka series! LOL Don't really know. If I have any seeds left I will let you know and you can try them.

Thanks Emma, Ronnie and Becky. Ronnie, beautiful Blue Star of India.
Nichole, love the Blue Ensign. I wanted to start some of those, just didn't get around to it.
Joseph, Love the big blue and that last series you posted. Those are
beautiful.
Becky, Lavendar Beauty is very pretty.

I think we can help you figure it out closer with a better photo. This one looks like it was taken late morning. Also, can't get a feel for what the color really is. Was it Lavender?

I do have a Lavender Mist, but it has a White Throat and looks nothing like these blooms. Not sure, but don't think I sent you any seeds of my LM. I've never heard of a MG 'Lavender Beauty' - which doesn't mean a thing.

Ben Chidori spelling is Beni Chidori
'Beni' in Japanese is 'Red'
is a smaller bloom that is Rosy-Red with Picotee Edge and nice Variegated Foliage. Looks 'similar' to 'Cameo Elegance' and 'Mini Bar Rose'.

I did send you seeds of Gray Fog, but this bloom doesn't resemble Gray Fog at all.
I will post a couple of my Gray Fogs from this year below.

I 'think' Cat called her seeds from me 'Henka Asagao' and/or 'Henka Blue Blizzard'. Can't remember.

Gerris - Those are beautiful! Love that foliage, too! WOW!!!

luvsgrtdanes - Thanks! I would be glad to trade for any MG seeds that I am able to collect this year. Mine are all open pollination.

Emma - I don't know what the heck I have. I'll try to get more photos with the next set of blooms on both plants. The colors of the blooms in my photos are pretty accurate (at least to my eyes) in the photos I posted. These plants could very well be some of Cat's 'Henka Blue Blizzard' vines. They are in that area that they were previously planted in. But I thought all of them had expired. Maybe I was wrong.

Your Gray Fog is really pretty!! And so is your Beni Chidori!

I'm going to start some more of your seeds (in pots) this week. Luckily, I didn't use all of the seeds of the different cultivars you sent me. I still have some left of each. Something has gotten to almost every single new vine I am growing. And some established vines as well. I have no idea if it is slugs or something else destroying them, but I am just sick about it. As a new gardener, I am soooooo frustrated! I had no idea what a challenge it would be to grow MGs and dealing with what I can't see hiding in the ground. I hate wasting these great seeds! (Where did the idea come that MGs could be invasive??? They are quickly becoming extinct in my yard!!) I need to grow a MG cultivar that is resistant to bugs. Is there anything out there like that?

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Ron - I think you've hit on something with the SOI variations. I sure do see a resemblance! Thanks for helping to narrow the field down and put some kind of ID to what I may have. :-)

Could y'all please take a look at a thread I started:

I got up this morning to more destroyed MG vines! I am just sick about it!!!

Ron - I added the photo, plus one other I had of that flower.

Just my luck . . . it's raining again. Not hard, though, but enough to keep things wet.

Just got a call from my sister . . . the Cypress Vine mix (Ron's seeds) that I planted at her place have two blooms. I'll go over later and get some pix.

Hello all! Karen aka VA_Wild_Rose sent me her link on your MG forum - little did I know there even was a MG forum *dunking head in embarrassment* I'm in absolute color heaven here!!! Amazing pics from everyone...I can see another obsession coming on!! This was my 1st year w/MG's started with the old standby Grandpa Ott's and Karen was kind enough to share 2 or 3 of her's. Once I saw how beautiful these blooms were I had to pick up various seeds for next year...this is in addition to the seeds I've been able to gather from my own. Hope it's ok to share my pic with ya'll. The one to the right is one of the ones Karen was so gracious to share with me. I will be doing all kinds of reading up on your threads to get some other ideas for next year both types of MG's and trellis' LOVE, love Karen's garden cart!!

Photos of my SOLID Chocolate from this morning. This is from a different seed of what I've been growing. I LOVE these, but unfortunantly they are in a tangled mess with some other vines since I haven't been hear to keep my vines untangled. These particular photos are of the vine that is on TOP of my lattice where I grow my shade plants, so I had a bid of a time getting a good photo.

Pretty Blooms Ronnie,
But they are Lavender - right?
That is the color I have always gotten anyways.
The only 'real' Blue SunSmile I've seen is from Arlan - and what a beauty.
