Sylvain: Wow....they just flow from your inner creativity, yes? And how wonderful that you live in an area that is so conducive to poetry! My favorite is also the turtle one, because --I think--of the way you start with just a glimpse of them getting air and then the scene is elaborated on with the additional image of the water lilies! I also love it that in the first line, the 5 syllables are achieved with just the two words...interesting!
Have you written them before or are you a natural poet?
CMoxon: I love it that you used "great" to describe the hound, but knowing it's a greyhound you hear that word there too! Clever word play! And "wind at his heels" is so apt for the breed....
Haiku, Anyone?
I learned about haikus in high school. Back then, it was just another thing to learn and file away. I coached my friends' kids when their time came to learn about them. They didn't seem impressed at the time and I could relate to their jadedness.
Aside from that, I can't say I dabbled in haikus in about 20 years. I saw this thread and decided to give it a try. I have always loved nature. I am a writer at heart. Haikus seemed like a fun thing to do yesterday.
I love the one about the softshell turtles. We also have other turtles here but glimpsing a softshell is an ephemeral treat. The other ones depict more obvious, permanent vistas seen from my living room window.
Sylvain.
