Those are really neat plants..
A.
Some of Ron's seeds
Do the hederifolia 177 new guinea keep those red leaves?
Yes! So far it still looks reddish.
Hey Beth - Glad to see that the different species are coming along nicely...
I'm curious what type of germination 'mixture' you are using there(?)...it looks very rich and is obviously working well for you...
TTY,...
Ron
The soil is "mulch" (aged leaves and organic matter, no manure) bought by the truckload at the local mulch depot. The lower layer is mixed with riverbed sand, but I leave pure mulch on the top because it retains the moisture the seeds need to germinate.
Nice photos Beth...what is the plant with the oval cotyledons growing next to the I.ramossisima(?)...
TTY,...
Ron
It is coming up from the center of the cotyledon leaves, so I was thinking they are the first true leaves....as best I can tell for the moment. I don't want to dig it up to be sure, and kill the seedling.
Not much info on I. ramosissima. Looks like is has a potato-like root.

DISTRIBUTION: Is a plant that wild from Bélice to Argentina grows. In peru is more common in the oriental sides to the 1,500 msnm.
GENETIC RESOURCE: Probably it is the wild species of the sweet potato cultivated and can have value as genetic material.

Hey Beth - There is a very small true leave emerging from the junction of the Ipomoewa ramossisima petioles...the oval cotyledons below the I.ramossima is definitely from another different separate plant...
I'd carefully pull up the plant with the oval cotyledons...
TTY,...
Ron
Okay, I hope it doesn't disturb the seedling.
Use a tweezer or just cut off the top part of the extra plant with a small pair of scissors.. that is what they do to the extra tomato seedlings, they just cut off the tops of the others and leave the stronger one, the ones that are cut die off on their own.
Thanks for the tip. I pulled it yesterday really gently until I was sure the MG underneath wasn't going to come up with it. It was still small enough that it came up just fine.
Hi Beth- Nice photos...although it is always valueable to show the exact shape of the cotyledonds via a nice clear closeup of the top view >I think it of particular value to show the Ipomoea macrorhiza seedling from a sideview to show exactly where the base of the cotyledon stems attach to the main hypocotyl as in the following photos in the PlantFiles...
Ipomoea costata

Operculina aequisepala

Your contributions are always appreciated...

I'll try that Ron. I have found it hard to get the camera to do a macro focus on side shots....but if I put a sheet of something behind it, it might work!
OOOH! Can't wait for blooms!
Beth - Excellent detail on the photo here

Your I.parasitica looks very healthy but reports so far indicate that the plant may be an annual...so,if the weather get's too cold >it may need to be overwintered indoors...
Looking Good(!)....
TTY,...
Ron
Thanks, Ron. I am planning to bring them all in for winter...just to finish maturing every seed I can get. I planned for this by planting everything in containers.
Beth - the photo of the bloom just above looks more yellow than previous blooms of this strain from Turkey...is it the particular lighting(?)...
Yes, I had the HPS light on when I took it. I thought using the flash might correct that but it doesn't appear it helped that much.
