Somehow, my brain can't keep up with all of you. Maybe it's because I used too much of it yesterday to do that exam and project.
Congrats to Araness and her dad. Tell him I am so proud and thankful of his service to keep us free.
Tropicanna, my thoughts and prayers to you. I agree that the lying is usually worse than the deed.
Bettypauze, thanks for the beautiful card.
All of you, thanks for the praise. It has taken me 6 years to get my master's, but I just did what I could when I could. My advisor cried with me when he told everyone of the obstacles I've overcome to finish. But I can't take all the credit; when I look back, there will be times that there are only one set of footprints in the sand.
love to all, julie
Hey, hellzn- go for it! go to college. "Be all that you can be."
Best Thing/Worse Thing and What did I learn today? Part 7
Frog I want to. I am a math a phoeb so it paralyzes me. I need to get a cheap non gass guzzler car too.
Liz they just said it is voluntary in the Antelope Valley but by next year if we get no winter rain again, next year will not be. uhg!
"B"glad you got together w/ the girls and your storm didn`t blow you away. I don`t know why you have a water problem, it sounds like there is a lot of storms there and water too?
Best thing I learned today was about Staw bale gardening and I want to try one asap. If it works I will get quite creative with it in the future.
Worst thing was I was hearing we may get a storm from Az. next week and the news now said, it will probably be desert thunder and high temps which means just muggy and hot with no return, otherwise it would be predicted in more areas than desert. We usually watch those storms from our house in a neighboring desert an hour away. CRap!
Morning...the water band is not in the region where I live..it's more to the city where I work...so I'm lucky there, but am sure as in most summer's we'll be hit..guess most of you know what that's like...
Storm passed us by...was hoping that we'd get it so it might guarantee nice weather for our Canada Day weekend..4 days off..how wonderful..I may be having company for the weekend so I'm just sooo excited..
Well, better get moving..my dear son called to pay the floating pool solar lights need replacing..one works/the other not..so another trip to Costco..and another trip into the garden center..sooooo what can I purchase for myself...hmmmm....I'm sure I need something...
With being on my own and always doing something and working and travelling so far for work I always take $100.00 every week just to TREAT me..someone's got to spoil me - right?
K...I'm gone..
Miss a day and I'm so far behind. Just know I am thinking of all you and hoping for the best for all of you.
What great pictures and ideas you all have shared.
Worst thing today::: will be the long day at work and not being able to work outside when the weather is great.
Best thing:::: Watching this in the front yard this morning!!!!
What did I learn::::::::: How awesome it was!!!!!
Is that a BEAR??? OMG!!!
yep! Awesome huh? Wish the other pictures had turned out. He was drinking out of the birdwaterer and eating green apples. Great way to start the day.
morning all,
oh wow ves does that come in the yard often? terrific picture i'd be running the opposite direction lol
betty, you deserve a 100.00 everyday you bring so much sunshine our way
have a wonderful day everyone liz
Well thank you Liz...re: leaves, what kind of cement are you using..leaves should have been completely dry the next morning..turning them over as long as you don't drop them would have been no problem..something amiss....
Vicki...we're experiencing lot of bears in our region as well..think lack of water thus no berries are forcing them into residential areas...the one that was seen yesterday though apparently was very/very scrawny..those are the ones you have to watch for...bet you were in awe and not even frightened!!! Love the arbor...absolutely love all the photo's...
Dawn..how are you doing today 'sweetie'? Thought about you last evening, sure hope all is well...have never heard of straw bale gardening - could you share?
Jeannine..how are things in your world today...will you get to spend the day doing some gardening?
Julie, are you now taking time to relax..enjoy what you've accomplished? you deserve it...
Sher, know you had a project going..how did you make out with it?
Good Morning to All-
Wow Ves-How incredibly cool! Great Capture. Not so sure I could take such a steady photo...LOL talk about Nature being at her best, Just love it.
Shar-Day Lil is wonderful...and I think that DL bed does need a house or 3,
What a pretty site to see from the deck...I just might have join the deck party too. Hey I'll bring some wood scrap and my 2 tools...Oh hey the plant way at the bottom the left, Do you know what that is called? I rescued one from my neighbors yard before demolition. And I love the honeybee pot on the stump.
Betty-glad you made it home safe and had fun with the girls. Havent had fried bologna in ages, yummy. Oh nice a 4 Day weekend! Hmmm wondering what our B will sink her hands into? I would live for you to come and help with the village...and I could have whole list of crafts for us to create together.
Hi Wonder, I hope your days are going well.
Darius-Glad your feeling better...Head the advise of Hellzn-
Hellzn-gosh sorry about the one leaf. But well now you learned to be patient too...LOL I would have done the same thing. Curiosity
Tropicanna, thought about you all night-I sure hope things can get ironed out.
Had fun sharing yesterday-Glad you all like the cake...if you decide to make one for yourself or another, just have fun! Don't forget to share if you decide to "Bake" one.
Lets see I hope everyone has a grand day.
See you later
Judy
Hi Dear Betty! Well, I'm at work right now. I have to go home at lunch to let Murphy out then back to the grind. I'll leave around 4:00 then Murphy has his next vet visit at 5:30. Our neighbors are heading out on vacation so I have to go get the details of what I need to do while they're gone so I MAY get in the garden before dark!
I just want SOME RAIN!!! It's one thing to have the flowers wilt but my poor river birches are losing their leaves from stress. My corkscrew willow is too. I wish I had an irregation system so this stuff could get watered while I'm at work. Does anyone know if they are hard to install yourself?
For yesterday:
Worst: had my first test for my class and I know I flunked! The in structor does not like multiple choice questions so all of them were "explain how 'blank, blank' works and why it's valuable". I left 3 blank and I know I got another 3 or 4 wrong. WAAAAAA!
Best: since I will be on vacation when the final exam is given, my instructor is letting me do a research paper vs. driving back for the test. THAT I can handle!!!
Learned: obviously nothing based on my test! :)
Jazz has been on a rampage since about 7:30....much better than yesterday's 6 a.m.....my poor dracena, but it is the remains of an old plant and it has outlived 4 kitties, so guess it will survive Jazz. All my other housplants are outside, thank goodness...because Jazz will not put her little paws out the door!
Loved the bear picture, have never seen one at all, except maybe in a zoo. This part of KY does not do bears.
Liz, maybe too much water in the cement? Have never made the leaf ones, but in doing others, I have found that too much water makes them brittle..
Have a good day, more later.
Jeannine..maybe now you know the teacher's method of testing you'll be able to ace the exams...wonderful that they are letting you you a paper vs. exam...maybe you are being self critical and you'll have passed...let's hope...
Sher..love the table..you should really consider doing garage sales and picking up more items ... would sell so very quickly...love the colors...
Talk about a work day..I'm here painting heron and visiting with son and grandsons who are on their way to Wonderland for the day before going to camp for 1 month..1 week of the month they'll be doing canoe trip..that's a long time to be away from home I think at ages 8 and 10...but then I'm grandma..I'll miss them for that long...
I'll tell you a bear story...girlfriend Aline just moved into her new home no more than 1 week, her DH went down the pathway to visit friends at the lake..Aline was in bedroom making beds when she could hear clanging, banging etc. so she called out thinking Tom had come back in...when no answer came and noise persisted she went down hallway into kitchen only to find a big black bear ripping open the cupboard doors and scattering all cupboard supplies...she QUICKLY ran into the bedroom and put dresser in front of door and called for help...repairs had to be made to new cupboards re claw marks..she's very cautious now..so when yesterday she saw the bears again, she called all the neighbors to make them aware as most have small animals and children...can never be tooo cautious...also my girlfriend Darlene lives about 1/2 mile from Aline and is often working in gardens and feels something behind her and yup..it's bears...
Judy....that plant is called seedam, I think, maybe spelled differently...not sure, but youcan also see a pot of ivy, some of the holly tree that the birds planted many years ago, part of a smoke tree and some daylilies in the lower part. But I do think you are asking about the sedum....maybe that's how it is spelled, can't remember.
thanks, decks are fun.
betty, go to the vegetable forum, and look for straw bale gardening. i think we are up to 14 or more threads now. what a boon for someone with mobility problems, wheelchair, walker, scooter, etc.
Thanks Sharon,
Yow, I have alot to learn about plants. I just didn't realize how many different kinds of plants have the same name. Here is another plant of the Sedum family, It's called "Black Jade" New to my garden, Can't wait to see the flowers...if the deer don't eat them first. You Holly tree is great too, must be nice to watch the birds feed.
Very cute Jazz climbing the Palm tree. I love how the table turned out. You are right your furniture would go great in my house...LOL want to sell your Brass Lamp-it's a beauty!
That sedum is lovely, you know, don't you that if it breaks off, you can just stick the broken piece right back in the soil and it will root. I have not seen the dark leafed variety like yours.
Nope, gotta hang on to the brass....goes well with the gold leaf.
Gotta take a break now, will maybe be back later.
sharon
LOL Gardengirl I said the same thing when I opened the picture "Is that a bear??" Then scrolled down to see you said the same. Vess I'm afraid the only bear we have around here is Mr. Bear and he's pink and squeaks...belongs to Zapita, nothing like you have. Oh my wouldn't she have a fit if she saw HIM out the window..how does Ty handle it?
Shar Jungle Kitty is just making sure no nasty's are hiding in the plant just waiting to jump out and get her momma, it's a service, really.
Betty I like your 100.00 idea, wonder if the DH will like it also *LOL*
Has anyone seen Trop. I hope she is not in jail for domestic abuse, though i wouldn`t blame her. Lets dmail her to see if she is ok?
Seed what leave thing are you talking about? What did I do that you would have been curious to do? I must have said something a while back and can`t find it. lol
No dmails necessary....I'll survive
Aw man Hellnzn-I am one big dork, Got name mixed up again...for some reason keep mixing you and Lizrainy up! so sorry..uhhem, my face is red again.
thats ok I do that too. i just thought my alzheimers was kicking in real good lately. lol
That s good Trop. will he? lol
Julie - A big congratulations on your masters. It is a great accomplishment
Sharran - Your Jazzy is too cute. I have a confession. When I was younger we used to have a cat that we called Millicent . . . for a few years . . . until we had to change the name to Mr. Millicent. I just can't figure out why none of us realized sooner. We certainly had enough cats come through our house that we should have known the difference.
Ves - I can't believe the bear in your yard. I'm almost jealous except I really wouldn't want one that close. I've never seen a bear outside of a zoo. Last year there were so many bears in our community though, the police shot 11 - one of them was shot in the school yard.
Tropicanna - I hope everything gets worked out to your satisfaction. Addictions are hard to break.
Well, I'm going to do my best/worst/learned for yesterday because DH was hogging the computer before I could do it.
Best - I noticed roots on the hoya cuttings I just received. I'm very excited!
Worst - The playday that the school had planned was rained out. I keep trying to suggest that they have the playday before the second-last day of school in case it rains but the school does seem to be stubborn.
Learned - This is thanks to Betty. Mark Cullen has something to do with why Cullens Gardens is called Cullens Gardens - duh. Who would have thought it? I had never made the connection before. Sometimes I can be a little dense.
lol I am real dense because i don`t know who he is? I assume a writer of gardening books?
Dawn he's one of the masters of gardening...does all the t.v. shows etc. probably more known in Canada than USA...
Hey guys, I'm making it, thanks for your prayers and support.
Best: darius called me and we had a great conversation, I feel like I really needed that.
Worst: still annoyed
What I learned: darius said something that kind of hit a note with me...I'm sure I won't get the wording even close to right, but the general message I think I needed to hear was that I have exchanged parts of who I am for the 'picket fence', and it's not really me. Now I need to work on that.
I used to see Mark Cullen on tv a lot, more so when I received all the specialty channels. I just find it amazing that I never connected the gardens with the person - and I even knew that he lived in that area. (DD's teacher used to go to the same church as him when she was growing up and she's from around there.)
Tropicanna - It's so nice you were able to talk to darius. It's always good when friends help us see things differently.
Tropicanna..so glad you got to speak with Darius..I'm sure she had many words of wisdom...praying coming your way!
well everyone, it's 4:30 - 15 minutes left and I'm off for 4 days...taking the Blue Heron home (lol) he's 99% done..boss just called to say HWY 400 is completely closed down again..multi car accident..really it's the only major route going north so it will be a late night getting home...he's between Hwy 88 and Hwy 89 which means he's blocked..last week it took an entire day to re-open..everyone driving toooo fast...
So, I'll check in later tonight..hope you are all having a great day!
For those who are not, know your friends are thinking of you and adding a few prayers for good-luck...
Trop i am glad you feel better now and have some deep thoughts to mull over that will help you work on what you need to be or do, instead of just thinking about the goofball that isn`t appreciating what he has as he should. Your welcome for prayers.
hi there all.
So much happens in a day on this thread, I cant keep up!
I cant believe there was a bear in your garden!! I mean, a BEAR! Crickey!
Trop, i so know what your going through. The lying is hideous and the act effects our self esteem. But you know what? Its not about you, its about them. Dont take it on board and YES, be yourself, find yourself and as Dr Phil would say, your authentic self! lol
Now who had that lovely view from their back deck? hmm was it sharran? well i forget but it would look awesome with a little villiage. your garden s are so lovely and you all have so much land!
ohh show me more things you make auty B!
how cool was that soil cake! awesome idea.....
Now you all take care today......
Well best thing was I lost weight this week, found out I hadn't been eating enough so that's the reason I didn't lose last week. Who'd have thought I'd have THAT problem? *G*
Worst is I've lost a credit card..nobody stole it I've just either thrown in away or washed it or I dunno, so have to cancel the entire account. Such a pain. It isn't one we use often but still such a hassle. Another worst is I think Zorro's Dad comes home tomorrow, *sniffle* I don't want to give him back. I mean they haven't even called to see how he's doing...What kind of parent is that?!?!
What I've learned is that kids at the car wash have learned all the tricks, took the car to be washed (all they do is soap the tires and presoak it and then it runs through a car wash and then they spray your tires) and was going to give him a buck or so tip and all I had was a 10.00 I asked for change and he ran off to get it and I heard him ask his buddy "Hey, you got two fives?" LOL I was so cracked up I gave him the whole 10.00 bucks just for him having the Chutzpah to try and get a big tip
Thats too funny, a young entrepanuer.lol I would have too if it was a good job.
Yes it is true you can not miss a day and catch up or you`l never leave this thread all day. Here's a link to Parts 1 - Part 12 - [HYPERLINK@davesgarden.com]
Here's a link to Part 13 - [HYPERLINK@davesgarden.com]. here is the thread on hay bale gardening. I read the whole thing from fist to last yesterday. It is amazing. just see the pictures.
Best I learned is it is ok to be tired and give yourself permission to just stop doing anything of importance, when you can. Plus glad I don`t have a bear in my yard too. lol
Worst I feel so tired all day, like I`m drugged.
Sniffle...Zorro went home early. I miss him already, I wonder if I snatched him if they would figure out it was me *LOL* He was very happy to see his Daddy so I guess I shouldn't be sad.
hele]m, none of your hyperlinks work ..you need to copy them from the usb bar above the threads

evening all,
judy lol
hellnzn, actually i think i had a little too much water then i put the concrete fortifier which added more liquid
betty, i use the baslite type II-v cement but i was in a hurry.... so what are your plans with 4 days off..
best: omg dh went for his 12 week viral load blood test on the 21st, well today it is confirmed that the treatment he is going through ...... drum roll..... there is no sign of the hepatitus virus whoo hoo!!!!!
worst:poor guy has to still take the shots and pills for another 36 weeks just to be safe
learned; just believe
everyone have a wonderful evening liz
Oh ya thanks Darius. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/734190/
Well it's that time of night..little later than usual for me but the grandchildren are here for the night so guess they'll have to put Grandma to bed lol..am sure they'll stay up
Best thing that happened today..of course visit at work by Jeff and his boys Caleb and Braedon...call with Sher/call from my girlfriend in Ireland (she just met a man - she's 67 and think they fell madling in love -they met 3 weeks ago in Romania...and then of course Geraldines' call from Florida..I'm all talked out and I can talk..lol...
Worse thing..yet another closure on Hwy 400 due to massive accident..everyone thinks they are racing at the Indy500...each day we watch the idiots speeding and driving agressively...can't believe there aren't more accidents....
What did I learn today..not always things are what they seem..girlfriend who lost her husband same time as I lost Roger remarried and moved to Florida....guess he's been using force on her..would never have thought it..they seemed made for each other....they just found out he has cancer and he's being difficult to live with..she's 70 and he's 73..he's given up in the land of the living but is making things very difficult..we spend an hour on telephone tonight and she's thinking of returning home...
Thanks for the thread..will read it tomorrow .. sounds so interesting...
Araness..pray to St. Anthony - patron of lost objects..he'll help you find your card.
To all those I've missed I'll say hello to you tomorrow...
Betty, thanks for all your help today. I needed that cheery pep talk.
Have a good evening.
OK! I do not post on here, but i am riveted to read all your stories, At least scan them. I cannot keep up!
I wanted to post an old, favorite Poem here from the old Ann landers columns. I am sure many of you know it. I would like to send this to Tropicana and anyone else who struggles in an abusive, dysfunctional relationship.
Gita
“After a While”
After a while you learn
the subtle difference between
holding a hand and chaining a soul
and you learn
that love doesn't mean leaning
and company doesn't always mean security.
And you begin to learn
that kisses aren't contracts
and presents aren't promises
and you begin to accept your defeats
with your head up and your eyes ahead
with the grace of woman, not the grief of a child
and you learn
to build all your roads on today
because tomorrow's ground is
too uncertain for plans
and futures have a way of falling down
in mid-flight.
After a while you learn
that even sunshine burns
if you get too much
so you plant your own garden
and decorate your own soul
instead of waiting for someone
to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure
you really are strong
you really do have worth
and you learn
and you learn
with every goodbye, you learn...
