Thanks Darius..was thinking of doing it earlier...
Best Thing/Worse Thing and What did I learn today? Part 7
Do tell us though Darius what happened to you in the pond?
well, i have been losing my balance often since i got out of the hospital the last time (a few days ago), usually not falling too bad. i went to look at the spring overflow (a pond sorts, 8 x 12 and about 8 inches deep). fortunately my neighbor was on his way over to help me assess whether i can use it for gardening water. i fell and was in the water about 5-6 minutes when he showed up. i had to yell for help as the spring is about 12 feet below the ground level.
he lelped me to the house, got dry clothes, and a promise not to go near the pond again. (you may remember i have a torn right rotator cuff and since last thursday i tore all the ligaments in my right knee cap.)
anyway, stubborn cuss that i am, an hour later i went to the pond to try to figure why I had fallen in. in a blink of an eye, i was face down full length in the pond and afriad of dying because I could not keep my face out of the water.
finally, i pulled up a bunch of watercress stems and roots to put under my face so i could at least breathe. unfortunately my good arm was wedged under me. it took 45 minutes in 34 degree water to finally get up the hill. now, the pond overflow is only 8 inches deep, but the pit surrounding is has 70 degree slopes.
finally made it to the house, took a hot shower, turned the heat up to to 80, and called my nurse neighbor for some first aid.
scarriest situation ever in my life.
when i get a few bucks, the pond gets fenced in, and even chicken wire over the top.
afternoon all,
araness, thank you,she does have a red visor on now that pic was a couple of mths old.
sharran, prayers sent for julie, hope your in better spirts jazz is soooooooooo cute.
judy, thanks i do sit and ponder alot i loved the ghost story
darius, gosh take care of yourself.
betty, gardens are lovely, i like where the leaves are, lol,lol omg i guess there was no way of talking yourself out of that one....
best: on our way up to visit the inlaws there were 10 hot airballoons just rising it was a site to see, when we got to the house mil actually spoiled us had breakfast ready took me shopping at the grocery store went to a few garage sales.
worst: we left in my car it was getting warm dh decided that he was in a hurry i guess, so all the way home it was 80-85 i told him what are you doing he said nothing all thease idiots in frount of me cant drive, at one point i wanted to stick my head out the window so i could get the full effect of free fall at ground level arrrrrrrrrrr......
learned: oh i learned next time im the driver!
so at walmart i found this tractor and here is the collection of boots i need to get busy!! have a great afternoon liz
Darius, OMG no wonder you were frightened...did you tell your neighbor about the 2nd episode? Bet not..he'd be furious with you..Isn't it easy to get into trouble...one has to be so careful..you are probably sweetie doing much to much so early after your operation...YOU should be resting..am sure everyone has told you to do so? hmmmm maybe we should all call you a 'stubborn old cuss' lol..just a kidding...but do be careful...hopefully you'll not get pneumonia...
A lady I know last year was having water with the well, her hubby went outside to check on status...we'll about an hour or so went by and when she went out he had fallen in head first and well, he was gone...now this gentleman, should not speak ill of the death, let's just say he was no 'gentleman' beat her up terribly..I was recreation co-ordinator and many a day she'd come with her camera and ask me to take photo's but she never did leave him...you know the old tongues..all said she helped him into the well...but I wouldn't believe a word of it...
Liz...all those boots, will garden people be wearing them?
lol at your ride home...bet you were glad when you arrived home...the days I ride with my young niece it's the same way..I'm terrified..think I say prayers all the way home..and it's almost 100 miles drive...I offer to drive myself in when I know there is a possibility of her driving...scares the beejeebers out of me...guess in my young day with hubby had to many of those rides....
Still can't find my 'fishies' in my pond..any idea where they might be?
Betty I posted earlier and lost it! the fish can be hiding! or they can get stuck in places. I had one last year get stuck in a liner crease. That's why I started with feeder fish. They are small but cheap!
Your gardens are beautiful! Love all your garden art.
My mom has never done anything like that. She gives you something then says she never gave it to you and wants it back! She has the old stained glass door from the house that burned when I was 7. I want to get it. It's not in the best shape because she cut the bottom down to fit in the basement then stapled plastic over the window. I'm the only one of the kids that remembers that door and none of the others want it. I was so shocked when I saw it. Another thing I want is a ceramic bowl my dead brother bought one year at Christmas. I was the only one to help him make the cookies. Mom's bowl wasn't big enough so he got on his bike and rode uptown to buy the biggest bowl he could find! Gosh he was ambitious! Boy I got off on a tangent there.
Araness that little statue is so homely it's cute! Your pot people are so cute. Do you plan on making a family of them?
Shar Jazz is a little sweetie! Over on Pets they say orange kitties are special. Hope your day was better then how it started. I've been trying to think of a funny story but my mind goes blank.
I know I have missed a lot but I want to get outside and do some weeding. We might go somewhere tomorrow.
Worst thing::::: My son went back to his home.
Best thing::::: got to visit with him for a bit. Makes a mom's heart sing.
What did I learn:::: it's easy to get off on a tangent. That might not make sense to other people! LOL
No sweetie it did make sense...do hope you get the door...antiques that have a special meaning become treasures passed on through generations...
Never thought about liner creases..they were about 2" long, friends that were here painting on Wednesday said they saw one floating but when I came home to try and get rid of it, nowhere to be found..perhaps it floated to the edge and one of the kittens got it..yuk...hundreds of tadpoles though..someone said they will become 'tree frogs'..not sure what difference is....maybe I should go into the 'frog' business...
Hope you've something special planned for tomorrow..weeding can always wait...got all mine done today, even got big object pick up items out to the road on my own..you can see truck/vehicles up and down the road..guess some find treasures before the garbage men pick up tomorrow...
I feel so close to you all reading your stories. Maybe when school is over in July I will share more.
Best over the weekend: had some help come over and we did a major overhaul on my piles of mess and moved the winter stuff to the cedar closet and the summer stuff upstairs. Oh and the windows were open almost all weekend. Baby wrens in one birdhouse and bluebirds in the other. Nice weather for the farmer's market.
Worst: Seems like to is always something else to be done and I am only one person. still can't come to grips with selling the house, not yet. Cats destroyed my new comforter ($100+) it is in the garbage.
Learned: Darius' sister better get there quick before she does herself in! Woman, what in the thunder are you thinking?!? ♥
-Kim
Edited for double posting

Kim, is that the same comforter that they stained earlier? Not having much luck are you...don't know if I missed a post, did you decide to sell after all? Amen to Darius's sister arriving..she does much toooo much!
Best thing that happened today is when living on the bay I always thought I had four sons rather than 2..one of the young men, now with family of his own called to say they would be in the area next weekend (have 35ft. motorhome) and wondered if they could come over for the weekend...Arthur and Lisa are wonderful people I'm so excited..perhaps I'll enjoy a long weekend instead of finding a zillion things to do..we'll see..they'll confirm by Friday...
Worse thing...really, everything was very quiet today, on my own, playing in the yard...so nothing very challenging happened....
What did I learn...that dead critters smell..geeeeze, those cats continue to catch moles and little chippies and think it's something I want to see....yuk....always have to watch where I'm putting my hand when gardening...guess my first clue is the odor...
Well everyone, hope you enjoyed the weekend...for us working people, it's back to work tomorrow for a rest.. enjoy the rest of the evening....
Same comforter, tried to clean it, didn't come out, more cat vomit, hair, scratching. What was I thinking buying a cream colored comforter?!? Lesson learned. I have not decided to sell. I have decided I Should sell but now is not a good time.
Hmmm. who else finds a zillion things to do??? Betty??
best thing: bought some casual clothes in March while we were visiting the kids in florida. Never wore them. Put one of the outfits on today, waaaayyyyyy tooo big. So they still had tags on most of them, I returned them to chico's here, and they did an exchange for me wih no hassle at all. Was able to find stuff that finally fit so I don't go around looking like I am wearing somebody else's clothes.that I need to grow into. Didn't realize I had lost so much weight, but am very short, so if I just lose 5 pounds i go down a size. Now, of course, my wrinkls hve wrinkles. Never satified.
worst thing.....no bad things, but this is sunday, and sundays are my worst day of the wek.
Learned: it is more fun to sit and play with the kitties than it is to look for things to do in the middle of the night......and the new keyboard is still sticking, so please overlook the misspellings and other typos.
Take care, especially you, Darius.....and have a fun day tomorrow.
Gardengirl...love the family outing photo's...so nice to be boating, can't wait for the "Foxy Lady" to be put into water..not sure she'll be ready this weekend...but sooooon..think my boys are terrified that I'll be out in Georgian Bay on my own...worse that can happen is I hit a rock right? I read charts so I'll be fine...
Your children are adorable and hubby of course..About a month ago I was at garage sale and they had similar tube for sale..reg. around $250.00 - $350.00 so I bought it..can't quite remember what I paid for it, think around $60.00 so that was a good buy..grandkids wills get mega use out of it..
Men pretend they are angry with us when we want to collect things for crafts but all the while being very proud ...Roger would say when I'd show him a new craft, the traditional oh.wow.fantastic.beautiful. etc. and we'd laugh, but then let someone arrive and he'd bring them and show them my 'treasure' proud as can be..bet your DH is the same...lol..
Last fall on our way to craft show and all dressed up, girlfriends and I spotted a quarry with slate...soooo, here we are, up on big mountains of slate digging and looking for the right pieces to paint scenes on..am sure the body frame of the car was sitting on the wheels..etc... actually these pieces are still outside waiting to become 'works of art' thanks for reminding me...
OHHHH Puppy is so cute..and look at those glasses...what make is your boat? Looks lovely... Thanks for sharing..
Good Morning!
Darius, OMG!!! I am so glad you got out of that pond. Thank God your neighbor came out. Holy moly-Sometimes gardening can just wait. Good thing your sister coming-LOL hope she'l keep you out of Trouble.
Shar-Your little orange ball of fluff Jazz is just soooo Cute!
Hi -Blue, Big big bummer about the comforter. I dunno -tangents are good for us. I think we can relate! Smile and hugs.
GG-my gosh,Tooo cool murph in shades.Brought a great big smile to my face.
Hey Liz, Love all the new Boots, can't wait to see what fills them. Seeing hot air baloons, what a treat!
Best-Today I took the day off, nice suprise for kids...and they are still sleeping!
Worst-puter went down yesterday so playing catchup today-
Learned-It' fun to "Laze" around for the fun of it.
Will check in later
Betty and all have a great Day.
Judy
Betty, I can see you now with the slate. I would have been right there with you!
Funny story: The four of us went up to a mountain cabin back in Nov. The cabin was on a stream and the sound was just awesome. So the kids are in the house playing or something and DH and I are sitting on the porch watching the water and it's nice and quiet & romantic and DH has his arms around me and we're just taking it all in. So funny me that I am looks down in the stream and say " you know what I love about this place hun?" And he's mumbles something against my neck. I say look at all those great rocks down in that stream! LOLOL. I almost ended up in the stream with the rocks!!! They were some great rocks, though!!
Our boat is a 24' Tahoe pontoon boat - my DH's baby! We're so sorry we didn't get a bigger engine on it. We got a 75 HP one but they can take up to a 110. If we went faster, we could knock the kids off the rafts! ;-)
Now I'm really laughing, sounds like something I'd do....
Giggling over here Garden...very funny!
Just back from lunch, went to Costco and bought solar pool lights for Greg/Mel..thought I'd treat them...they come in sets of 2 and change colors..should look nice in their pool...bought a set a few weeks ago for pond..have been painting on blue heron all morning so back I go..another full day and I could be finished..was just thinking, If I were to purchase a pail, fill it with cement and insert this heron in it and then insert another plastic container with catails..wouldn't it look nice...maybe it's this weekend's project..that and stained glass blue heron water feature...some of those projects I never seem to finish...
It's almost 30 here today and with humidity guess it's over 90 degrees..very hot..should have put air on before leaving for work...oh well...sure hope it stays hot for this long weekend coming up...Fri.Sat.Sun. and Monday...oh what fun I'll have...
Was just thinking, sure wish you all lived closer to Canadian border, on my week's holidays end of July-first part of August I could have visited..make the circuit...but you are all tooooo far away.....
That's my day, how is yours going....
B E T T YYY-
I can't find you. Where is Victoria Harbour located, I was just trying to see exactly how far away you are. Wish we all lived closer togather. Now I am going to have to look everyone up and see what if there is a middle. Now I am on a hunt..LOL
Glad you are working on the Huron, Sounds to me like your pond is going to be wonderful.
Nice treat for G& M!
My day is going well, finished up laundry, now working on lil garden house, painted her up yesterday. Today working on the trim...Thankful for grips...most helpful!
Watched the kids play in the pool, the older ones are on their 67th game of Boggle, I think there going for 100!
Can't beleive the day is more than half over!
BBL-
judy
Judy, I'm 100 miles north of Toronto (that's where I work) or about 50 miles north of Barrie..about 5 miles from Midland..that gives you some pinpoints...got to take some photo's of your birdhouse...if I ever get some time I want to make a few and paint them as well..
I looked where you were on the map the other day...not far from St. Louis right..when I travelled to Texas spent a few days nearby..just thought the bridge lit up was soooo very beautiful...
Glad you are enjoying the day....
best: didn't take the librium pills and felt better, no falls.
worst; the new physical therapist spent over 2 hours with me btiday. lotsa exercizes to do daily although she didn't leave me a list.... did she think i was a genuis and could remember all 34 of them? but, she will be back wednesday and maybe with a list i can get down pat.
learned: healing takes longer as we age. impatientce does not.
Hello girls, got the CUTEST hello e-mail and I've been trying to figure out how I can send it to you all by D-mail..anybody know how..it's on outlook right now....
Best thing...Son and DIL liking the gift I bought them for the pool..always nice to get a 'no occasion' gift...
Worse thing..picking up 2 more little chippies...love my kittens but sure don't like the killing spree they are on..know it's a natural instinct..but...feel so sad when I have to pick them up and dispose of them.. and...no one on DG to play with today..everyone busy/busy..lol
What did I learn...day can go by quickly when boss is not in and you are painting all day on a project for the garden..lol...now maybe if he's away tomorrow I'll finish it...
Have a great evening..maybe tomorrow we'll gab...
I forgot to hit watch when I followed the thread over...it must of been a duh day. I wondered why everyone stopped posting, days like this when I wonder if I have a brain *LOL*
Started my seedlings for fall, I need a 12 step program...way to many seedlings way to little space. I also ordered some 4" pots from a nursery in CA this morning to transplant in and boy do they move fast, they shipped them out by closing today. I'll have to remember to put them in Garden Watchdog.
Only bad thing about today (other than being a tad on the stupid side) was the rain.
evening all,
betty, yes all those boots will be for the pot people i just need to get motivated lol
best:got to go float in the pool and relax
worst:loaded up on the things your not suppose to eat with acid reflux some day i'll learn no onions, tomatoes ect im just a gluten for punishment
learned:men can be p.i.t.a!
everyone have a wonderful evening liz
dumb question, Betty, what is a "chippie"??? You have mentioned it before, I just don't know what you are talking about. surely not a chipmonk, they are too cute.
The cat next door is an outside cat, and catches all the bluebirds she can get.....breaks my heart because we have bluebird nests here, she catches them, kills them, and leaves them on my deck for me to find. I have very ugly feelings about that cat, and I love cats!
Best....got my upholstry fabric....big job ahead of me now.
Worst.....the Lion King of this house, the one named Jazz is learning to climb up my jammie leg and is tearing shreads out of my legs. when I least expect it, there he is.
what I learned....Never underestimate the sneakiness of a 1 pound ball of fluff. too bad no one is here to take a photo of him hanging from my jammies. that would surely brighten up your days.
Liz, glad you got to soak in the pool today....fun and good for you.
Araness, do you have a greenhouse or where are you starting your seedlings? I remember Orange being hot and very humid this time of year.....spent many summers there visiting in laws years ago....hubby grew up in Orange.
be very careful, Darius....as I am sure you are being. some meds need to be eased off of...not sure about lithium, but be careful anyway.
Seedtosser, will we get pix of the garden house? would love to see it.
And to all of you, happy tuesday...sleep well.
hello all, gosh i cant keep up with you all.
sorry i havnt been around much but we are all feeling better and DD is on the mend. so, on with life!
Best thing? Lost another 3lbs thats 56.7lbs so far!! woohooo lots to go though.
Worst thing? aches and pains from the excersise, only walking but the old body doesnt like it. lol
Hey betty, i am still confused about the ruhbarb leaves. we eat rubarb to, the stalks i mean but what are you doing with the leaves?
Gosh your all so talented in one way or another.
I have made a few jewellry items i could take a pic of and shoe you? Nice beads and such......
Worst thing yesterday::::::::Pulling on the hose and falling in my flowerbed. I'm pretty sore today! But got all the watering done!
Best thing:::Got in another nap!
What I learned::::::::go a little slower!I just don't feel like I have enough time to get stuff done.
Wonder the fact that you are working on a Child's book shows how talented you are. We all have different talents. It is just finding them sometimes. I wish I was better with words on here. So sometimes I don't say anything.Great job on the additional weightloss! After working for 6 months I still get sore all the time. I don't think I will ever get use to it.
Betty I pretty much stayed off yesterday because DH thinks I am on to much! They just don't understand. Can hardly wait to see the Blue Heron finished.
liz Isn't that something how we are always learning men are a p.i.t.a. I also learned that yesterday again!
Sharran glad you are having so much fun with the kitties.
Today the plan is to plant a few leftover flowers I have then clean clean clean in the house! Have to start now. My sister and kids plan on coming here the third weekend in July. I'm trying not to get too excited because she has made plans before and it hasn't worked out. We haven't seen them in 3 years. No more talk about that because I'm getting excited!
Have my first load of laundry started. Got the dog chewing on his bone. Almost time for my second cup of coffee. 3 deer were in the back yard. All does. DH is at work. A good start to the day as long as I take it slower and more careful!!!!!!!
You all have a great day and I hope to be back on later.
Vicki
then I mix the cement..only part you have to be concerned with is that you don't add toooo much water..if the cement is to dry, they'll crack, if it's to liquidy then when you place cement on leaves it will run off..not really hard at all..then I take cement mixture and place it on leaves (some put metal for strength, but I've made hundreds, they've survived walking on them, harsh winter conditions... and have never broken.. I make them about 2" thick if not a little more..make sure you've got that amount on edges and at the peaks....then with my hands I just pat the surface so the mixture goes between the veins and liquid comes to surface...

ooops, for got that photo and couldn't add it to the 'edit' portion..
Then occasionally I spray water on them, very light spray..this helps them harden and then I leave them overnight...the next day, gently I turn them over..the leaves still are attached, you can either spend the day (ha/ha) taken leaves off or just let them sit in the sun, the leaves will dry just like snake skin and you'll be able to brush them off...great for walkways etc.
The large/large leaves take about 1 1/2 bags of cement..they are about 30" x 36" so big...smaller ones you'll get about 2 or 3 from a bag..still inexpensive..think a bag costs about $4 or $5.00 Just unusual...I enjoy making them ...
I've also made birdfeeder and water bowl using same method ..just different prep techniques..hope this answers your questions...
Have a great day!
morning all,
ves, let me vent to tell you,
it had to do with he went to transport a tractor and stayed home all day after that
i know his treatment keeps him down with no energy..so all the times he went out in the yard to smoke you mean he couldnt pick up the dog c--- and the fallen fruit which, didnt even fill a brown bag half full, oh it gets better he had a dog food bag full of fruit and dropings that the racoon tore open so he goe's to pick it up and tries to fit it into a bag one size down .it does not fit ,rips somemore and he drops it with the attitude so i said go inside if your going to act like that....! then he snivilled about cutting celery and onions for the potato salad i kept quiet.
what irritated me the most was this morning acted as if nothing happened if you dont think i didnt want to hit him over the head with a frying pan as he left this morning ahhhhhhhh men lol thans for letting me vent have a wonderful day all liz
lol...can't live with them, and oh so sad when you have to live without them....
just go give him a big/big kiss and a hug....that'll get him thinking!
Here's my rant! Went to my sister's house to help her husband fix his garage door. He is disabled and had to take an early retirement. A really nice guy. Now the part I am ranting about is DH always wants these bigggggggg ticket items. First he went on line to price the new Mustangs and after helping brother-in-law he had to go to the dealers to price the car. I should of just stayed home because I wasn't feeling the best from the fall and just felt worse as the afternoon went on.
Now the best part is he has a '67 convertible that is almost restored and is working on a fastback. I said to him how many do you need? The man thinks he is a millionaire! It just drives me crazy because when I want to buy soil or something I get this look from him. It's not as if I want to spend thousands. My garden is almost all found items or inexpensive items. Which makes it unique and I am really proud of it but sometimes I wish he'd lose the look or attitude!
Thanks for letting me rant. Now I am over it until the next time. LOL
Wow, 67 convertible mustang...it's in the 90's today, how much fun it would be to go riding for the rest of the day... now what fall did you take, did I miss something in the last few posts..I'm off to re-read...
and Ves..tell him when he finds 1 you want a matching one...lol see where that gets you!
Betty he would agree to that because it would be another Mustang! LOL
You'll have to tell him I 'said so' and that will surely make him pro DG..now for the fall..what happened?
