Hi,
I am new here and have some questions I hope you can answer.
Two years ago I had to move and now live where there there is a balcony only. This year I accidently planted Morning Glories into a pot with a small Spruce tree. (soil got mixed with seeds) Last night we had high winds (I live on the second floor) and this morning one of the Morning Glories in this pot had browned leaves and spots on others. Is there anything I can do to safely treat these? I have a cat that goes out there and will not use chemicals on anything. There is another pot of Morning Glories doing just fine. What do you think the problem is? I hope the picture is clear enough for you all to see.
Thanks
Fran
Sick Morning Glories or wind damage?
I don't think that's wind damage. Not sure what it is though so unfortunately no suggestions on what to do about it.
Could it be that your cat wanted to mark its territory ?
As for my cat...no, she does not go out doors. I may have the problem solved and it has to do with the Spruce tree. My understanding is the Spruce needles may have something in them to ward off bugs, birds etc while it is growing. Could be wrong but the upper leaves on the Morning Glories are fine. So, a combination of the wind last night and the Spruce sappling may have been the problem. If anyone has another thought I would appreciate it. My sister believes Sunlight soap and water may kill anything like bugs on it?
The picture I am showing here indicates how close these leaves are to the needles.
Thanks (hope I am posting this right???)

Fran - Welcome!
You may want to post your issue in the Morning Glory forum. There are alot of people there who are very familiar with morning glories. There are also some other morning glory growers located in Canada in that forum - couldn't hurt to compare notes!

Fran... My mom lives up near you. She is in Bonfield. My DH and I are planning on going up there the first week of July. OK, enuf abt. me.
Let me ask you some questions. The damaged leaves, were they on the outer side of the balcony, where the wind may have beaten it, or are they on the other side of the spruce, where they may have been protected? The reason I ask is that the wind would do damage between the veins and on the leaf margin, exactly as shown. If the side away from the wind looks healthy and the side facing the wind looks beaten, I'd say thats the answer. Next, are there any insects on the bottoms of the leaves? Because that is where insects like to hand out. If so, describe the beasts.
