Here is a pic of my north front entryway, I have one barberry in the corner, and three spirea bushes.
But it needs something and I can't figure it out.
Thought about some wine and roses weigela? But maybe it would take away from the tree as a focal point. I'm not particularly fond of evergreen shrubs due to fact they make a great home for BIG spiders, but thought the dark green might add a nice compliment to with the chartruese and light green.
In the front entryway to the south of this garden bed, I have a beautiful jackmani clematis and a black beauty elderberry. I planted a few annuals. It just doesnt look right, you think I should add some spirea's to continue the flow?
Filigree Maple with spirea any ideas?
Can you find a way to post a bigger picture? When I click on it to enlarge it, it shows up as the same size as the thumbnail and it's very hard to see anything.
Yip, need wider view and larger picture, cant make it out, sorry but I am useless at tech stuff so wont be able to enlarge if I tried, WeeNel.
Hmm I am not very good with computers. I will see what I can do to get a bigger pic thanks
Same as myself, can plant, grow things and nurture, but dont ask me to get all technical, could someone help you out with this as it seems a shame not to get the help you required, hope so, good luck. WeeNel.
Well I tried to enlarge the pic unsuccessfully...
Think its just how my phone takes pictures.
O well thanks anyways.
I opted for a mugo pine and a few more spireas, i think I keep planting everything a little sparsely, and in a row.
Need to work on grouping :)
You will be amazed at how BIG the little shrubs grow! It's great that they have lots of space between them, air circulation is important to establish new plantings and prevent disease.
I think you've made some fairly standard choices, but that's okay. I have the same stuff, he he. I can't see much of your pic, so I'll make some generalizations here. The barberry has a nice contrasting foliage color, and the mugo pine has an evergreen form that will help carry the group in winter. The spiraea have summer flowers and changing foliage colors to complement the other shrubs.
Maybe a large rock or two would give some weight to the planting? Bury the bottom third of it, to give it a more natural appearance.
I placed 3 large rocks inbetween the shrubs - great idea made a big difference, seemed to pull it together. I may place a wine and roses weigela in there for some contrasting color, and flowers.
Great, glad I could help! ;-)
