Phildendron leaf drips -dangerous?

Vancouver, BC(Zone 7a)

Hello everyone, I have two philodendron's that drip a mystery liquid from their leaves. One is a spade leaf the other is a self-heading variety though I'm not sure exactly what one. I've heard that these drips are signs of good health and abundance of nutrients but i can't seem to find out what it is they are dripping and if it is dangerous.

The spade leaf sits on my computer desk and the drips potentially could fall into my morning coffee, the other sits close too a small fish tank and i worry that as it grows it might get big enough to drip into the fish's water.

So i was hoping someone could tell me what it is dripping from the plants? Is it just water or something i should be careful around? I can re-arrange things if i should be cautious about where they drip but I would like to know if it is necessary.

I've included a pic of the self heading philo in case someone wants to tell me the variety.

thanks everyone :)

Hi pinkapoontang,No I dont think the droplets from your plants are dangerous to humans, but to be on the safe side, I would not want to either drink it in my coffee and certainly dont let it into the fish tank as it could cause some chemical reaction, though I cant think what, but for the health of your fish why ask for bother, they prob enjoy the greenery around the tank, so just turn it so the leaves cant hang over the tank or coffee cup, or, move it slightly, all plants will drip, release this moisture, it is like the plants way of breathing or you sweating, but this is normal, I guess you are able to see it due to the leaf size and the smoothness of the leaf, the name/ type of Pholodendron is I think P. Bastatum, these can grow into large house plants, and in the growing season need water, feed and repotting. hope this helps. WeeNel.

Someone not too long ago posted about this happening with a Chirita plant ... let me see if I can find that post.

Found it ... it's called 'Guttation" .... interesting.

Thanks WeeNel , I'll keep turning them away from the problem areas to be on the safe side and possibly move them once they get significantly larger. thanks for the ID too.

Thanks plantladylin, i was googling plant weeping, plant dripping etc, and i couldn't find nothing, now i know it's guttation and how it works.

I knew asking here would help me out, thanks again everyone.

Does anyone know the name of the philo in the above picture? I couldn't find P. Bastatum but there is a Hastatum but it is not the plant in the picture. I saw this particular plant in the grocery store yesterday and thought, for a moment, that it was syngonium but as I looked at it closer, it is not.

Thanks,
Susan
